  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in muscle activation associated with foot position during a sit-to-stand exercise among normally healthy elderly subjects. Methods: Eight subjects (male=3; female=5; mean age=$70.13{\pm}{\pm}2.53$years) were recruited. The activation of six muscles (neck extensor; lumbar extensor; hamstring; rectus femoris; gastrocnemius; tibialis anterior) was measured by surface EMG (TeleMyo 2400T G2, Noraxon Inc., USA) during a sit-to-stand protocol under three different foot positions (ankle dorsiflexion of 0, 15, or 30 degrees). Results: Muscle activation of the neck extensor and hamstring was decreased according to the change in foot position (p<0.05), but activation of the rectus femoris was increased (p<0.05). Muscle activation of the neck extensor was significantly different between 0 and 15 degrees (p<0.05). Muscle activation of the hamstring was significantly different between 0 and 15 degrees and between 0 and 30 degrees (p<0.05). Muscle activation of the rectus femoris was significantly different between 0 and 30 degrees and between 15 and 30 degrees (p<0.05). However, activation of lumbar extensor, gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscles did not significantly differ between foot positions. Conclusion: These findings suggest that muscle activation during a sit-to-stand movement differs depending on foot position. We believe that these differences should be considered when educating the elderly regarding proper body movements.

  • Objectives: We aimed to study the role of vestibular input on spatial memory performance in mice that had undergone bilateral surgical labyrinthectomy, semicircular canal (SCC) occlusion and 4G hypergravity exposure. Methods: Twelve to 16 weeks old ICR mice (n=30) were used for the experiment. The experimental group divided into 3 groups. One group had undergone bilateral chemical labyrinthectomy, and the other group had performed SCC occlusion surgery, and the last group was exposed to 4G hypergravity for 2 weeks. The movement of mice was recorded using camera in Y maze which had 3 radial arms (35 cm long, 7 cm high, 10 cm wide). We counted the number of visiting arms and analyzed the information of arm selection using program we developed before and after procedure. Results: The bilateral labyrinthectomy group which semicircular canal and otolithic function was impaired showed low behavioral performance and spacial memory. The semicircular canal occlusion with $CO_2$ laser group which only semicircular canal function was impaired showed no difference in performance activity and spatial memory. However the hypergravity exposure group in which only otolithic function impaired showed spatial memory function was affected but the behavioral performance was spared. The impairment of spatial memory recovered after a few days after exposure in hypergravity group. Conclusions: This spatial memory function was affected by bilateral vestibular loss. Space-related information processing seems to be determined by otolithic organ information rather than semicircular canals. Due to otolithic function impairment, spatial learning was impaired after exposure to gravity changes in animals and this impaired performance was compensated after normal gravity exposure.

  • Various muscular flaps are used in oral and maxillofacial reconstructive surgery for the defects caused by tumor resection and trauma or for the correction of head and neck deformities. The sternocleidomastoid(SCM) muscle may be widely used as a muscular or myocutaneous flap in these lesion. The authors used SCM muscular flap for the expected parotid defect following benign tumor related conservative parotidectomy in three cases. We expected that prevention of post-operative facial deformity, reduction of dead-space and protection of denuded facial nerve etc. is lead by SCM muscular flap. But the total SCM flap can lead to some complications such as "flat neck deformity", limitation of neck movement and overcontouring of parotid defect. Therefore, the authors used split pedicled SCM muscular flap and it lead good favorable results of post-operative functional and esthetic problems.

  • Objective: This study aim is to identify whether 30minutes optokinetic stimulation(OKS) with smooth pursuit eye movement can alleviate chronic hemispatial neglect. Methods: We applied optokinetic stimulation with smooth pursuit eye movement to 2 chronic hemispatial neglect patients. experimental duration was total 4weeks - 1week baseline, 2weeks OKS intervention, 1week 2nd. baseline. The intervention was 10 OKS sessions (30min each, 1session daily, from Monday to Friday) over a period of 2weeks. The neglect test carried out 3 times a week every other day. The OKS was provided on the screen when patient sat in front of the screen(13.5 inch). The OKS video that the 24 yellow squares moving coherently from the right to the left side. Patients were instructed to perform smooth pursuit eye movement without head and neck movement. Results: As a result of the OKS for 2weeks, the degree of neglect trends to decrease on both 2 cases compared to baseline A. The degree of the neglect of subject 1 tended to increase the at the baseline A. In contrast, the subject 2 showed that tendency that the degree of the neglect declined additionally at the baseline A. Conclusions: We identified that 30 minutes optokinetic stimulation with sooth pursuit eye movement is effective intervention method for chronic hemispatial neglect.

  • This study was to provide the fundamental data for a scientific and rational clothing construction by investigating the length variation of the upper body surface, using the method of surgical tape. The subjects were 15 early elementary schoolgirls in Busan area classified by three somatotypes, Arm-movements were consisted of 6 types. The statistical analyses used in this study were mean, standard deviation and the ANOVA and LSD procedure. The results of the analysis of the length of the upper body surface are as follows: By arm-movements, in the items of horizontal, front neck base girth, back upper bust girth, back bust girth and back under bust girth were increased and the other standard lines were apt to be decreased. In the items of vertical, all standard lines of front side and side seam length showed increased, the lines of bark side were apt to be decreased. The shoulder length represented the maximum rate of decrease($-36.59\%{\~}-48.98\%$) in M6($180^{\circ}$) and the side seam showed the maximum rate of increase($49.74\%{\~}59.22\%$) in the same movement.

  • Purpose: Recently, as a result of the use of smart devices, the incidence of musculoskeletal diseases in areas such as the neck and shoulders has increased. A common effect is rounded shoulder posture, which badly affects the movement and posture of the scapula, causing musculoskeletal disease. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the effects of three shoulder brace products on rounded shoulder posture. Methods: A total of 12 subjects comprising men and women in their 20s with round shoulder posture participated in this study. Three shoulder brace designs were selected, and the height change of the shoulder acromion in the lying state before and after wearing the braces was measured. Effectiveness verification was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The results confirmed that the different shoulder brace designs had different effects on round shoulder posture. Conclusion: Currently, numerous designs of shoulder braces are being sold, but their effects have not been verified. In the future, more diverse designs of shoulder braces should be studied, and effective shoulder brace designs should be developed and used.

  • In this paper, we propose a sleep efficiency measurement algorithm based on IR-UWB radar sensor in distance. Among the vital signs which can be measured by the IR-UWB radar sensor such as breathing rate, heartbeat rate, and movement, we analyzed correlation between the movement and the sleep efficiency, and based on the result, we propose a sleep efficiency measurement algorithm. In order to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, we applied the algorithm to three polysomnography patients in hospitals and obtained the performance of an average absolute error within 3.9%.

  • Finite element analysis is one of the most used tools for studying femoral neck fracture. Nerveless, consensus concerning either the choice of material characteristics, damage law and /or geometric models (linear on nonlinear) remains unreached. In this work, we propose a numerical quasi-brittle damage model to describe the behavior of the proximal femur associated with two methods to evaluate the Young modulus. Eight proximal femur finite elements models were constructed from CT scan data (4 donors: 3 women; 1 man). The numerical computations showed a good agreement between the numerical curves (load - displacement) and the experimental ones. A very encouraging result is obtained when a comparison is made between the computed fracture loads and the experimental ones ($R^2=0.825$, Relative error =6.49%). All specific numerical computation provided very fair qualitative matches with the fracture patterns for the sideway fall simulation. Finally, the comparative study based on 32 simulations adopting linear and nonlinear meshing led to the conclusion that the quantitatively results are improved when a nonlinear mesh is used.

  • If the target volume cannot be included with one field at head and neck cancer, we commonly used two or more field. It is very important to irradiate uniform dose at junction area of the fields. However, according to body shape of patient or general condition of patient, skin junction area can be matched incorrect, So overdose area or underdose area can be appeared in the junction area. This study researched therapy technique which can give uniform dose at skin junction owing to applying the edge block of lateral field at head and neck cancer. We measured the changed distance and rotational angle between central line of anterior supraclavicle lymph node and low margin of right lateral field on simulation process using the shielding block of variable rotation. As a result, the changed distance between central line of anterior supraclavicle lymph node and low margin of right lateral field was below 2mm to ${\pm}$10cm distance at central line of Y axis, changed angle was average 1.28 degree. But by using it the shielding block of variable rotation, the incorrect match at junction can be minimized. We think that this technique is very efficient one to apply this technique at head and neck cancered by the movement of organs can be not included, Therefore we have to pay attention on the process to imput MLC layer
