  • This paper presents stochastic methodology based fault detection algorithm for induction motor systems. We measure current of healthy induction motors by means of hall sensor systems and then establish its probability distribution. We propose online probability density estimation which is effective in real-time implementation due to its simplicity and low computational burden. In addition, we accomplish theoretical analysis to demonstrate convergence property of the proposed estimation by using statistical convergence and system stability theory. We apply our fault diagnosis approach to three-phase induction motors and achieve real-time experiment for evaluating its reliability and practicability in industrial fields.

  • In this research a 2-dimensional motion producer based on two linear motors was developed. When the tester provides some motion through the level attached to the upper moving part of the motion producer, it provides the arbitrary intertia, damping and stiffness characteristics without actual change in physical structure of the motion producer. That is, the active impedance is implemented by controlling input currents supplied to the linear motors. A PID controller with feedforward loop was used to control the currents and pre-processing of input velocity and accleration singals from the encoder and the current singnal from the motor driver circuit are conducted to improve the performance.

  • The unexpected failure of the induction motor makes the downtime of production, and the cost of the process cessation enormous. To reduce the downtime and increase the reliability of the motor, the vibration measurements for the fault detection have been used previously. Recently motor current signature analysis(MCSA) has been adapted for the fault detection and diagnosis of the motors. MCSA provides a powerful analysis tool for detecting the presence of mechanical and electrical faults in both the motor and driven equipment. In this paper, the fault severity of the rotor bar has been derived in terms of the resistance change which is calculated from the equivalent circuit model. Results show that the fault of the rotor can be easily detected and the measured value of the resistance change is verified by the detected fault from on-site tests using MCSA for the induction motors in an iron foundry.

  • This paper proposes a new string controller for puppet which is optimized in terms of the number of motors and its size. To optimize the number of motors needed for generating the essential motions of puppet, the motion of bending a leg is implemented by one string and the walking motion by two legs is implemented by one motor. To minimize the space needed for the controller when generating the essential motions of puppet, cylindrical and articulated joints are used in the controller. The proposed controller is actually implemented to perform various puppet shows and it has been proved that the size of the controller is small enough for two puppets to stand close to shake hands and it is fast enough to simulate fast dance motions.

  • This paper presents stochastic methodology based fault diction and diagnosis algorithm for induction motor systems. First, we construct probability distribution model from healthy motors and then probability distribution for faulty motors is recursively calculated by means of the proposed probability estimation. We measure motor current with hall sensors as system state. The estimated probability is compared to the model to generate a residue signal which is utilized for fault detection and diagnosis, that is, where a fault is occurred. We carry out real-time induction motor experiment to evaluate efficiency and reliability of the proposed approach.

  • Generally, the dynamic parameters by dynamic simulation are calculated from an equivalent circuit parameters in design process. By performing dynamics of motors, it can be achieved design considering control pattern. In this paper, dynamic characteristics of LIM (Linear Induction Motors) is discussed using the new method of equivalent circuit parameters by field analysis. And the system response of VVVF(Variable Voltage Variable frequency) are presented for jerk characteristics represented as acceleration and deceleration by steep trust ripple.

  • A military vehicle undergoes normal to extreme driving conditions, which consequently induce the fatigue and fracture of cabin and frame. So, it is important to estimate the fatigue life of two components at an initial design stage. In this paper, Modal Superposition Method(MSM) was applied to evaluate the durability performance of a small-sized military truck. For reliable durability analysis, a Virtual Test Lab(VTL) Model was established by correlation with experimental results. These data were extracted from actual driving test, modal test, and SPMD(Suspension Parameter Measuring Device) test. This process shows that Virtual Fatigue Analysis can be a useful approach in the development of military vehicles as well as commercial vehicles.

  • This study evaluated the residual stress and deformation for bracket castings of induction motors. Numerical analyses were performed to evaluate the residual stress distributions and displacements of bracket castings after the casting and final machining processes. Based on the analysis results, it was found that bracket casting was satisfied with the internal quality standards during the fabricating processes.
