A Moving Picture Coding Method Based on Region Segmentation Using Genetic Algorithm (유전적 알고리즘을 이용한 동화상의 영역분할 부호화 방법)

  • In this paper, the method of region segmentation using genetic algorithm is proposed for an improvement of efficiency in moving picture coding. A genetic algorithm is the method that searches a large probing space using only a function value for a optimal combination consecutively. By progressing both motion presumption and region segmentation at once, we can assign the motion vector in a image to a small block or a pixel respectively, and transform the capacity of coding and a signal to noise rate into a problem of optimization. That is to say, there is close correlation between region segmentation and motion presumption in motion-compensated prediction coding. This is to optimize the capacity of coding and a S/N ratio. This is to arrange the motion vector in each block of picture according to the state of optimization. Therefore, we examined both the data type of genetic algorithm and the method of data processing to obtain the results of optimal region segmentation in this paper. And we confirmed the validity of a proposed method using the test pictures by means of computer simulation.

  • The motion comensated video coding technology is very improtant to compress video signal since it reduces the temporal redundancies in successive frames. But the computational complexity of the motion estimation(ME) is too enormous to use in the area of real-time and/or resolution video processing applications. To reduce the complexity of ME, fast search algoritjms and hardware design methods are developed. Especially, the three step search(TSS) is well known method which shows stable performance in various video sequences. And other variations of TSS are developed to get better performance andto reduce the complexity. In this paepr, we present the modified TSS using neighboring block's motion vectors to determine first step motion vector in TSS. The presented method uses the correlation of the adjacent blocks with same motion field. The simualtion resutls show that it has a good MAE performance and low complexity comparing with original TSS.

  • This paper is concerned with effective and reliable tool breakage detection method using pattern characteristics of feed motor current in milling operations. Correlation coefficient is derived from the feature vector of signal for two consecutive which are extracted feed motor current over three spindle revolutions. The changing pattern of correlation coefficient is continuously compared to detect tool breakage and monitor cutting conditions. This proposed monitoring scheme is not affected by different tools, friction of motion, and varying cutting conditions and material shapes. Experimental results are presented to support the proposed monitoring scheme.

Ground motion intensity measure to evaluate seismic performance of rocking foundation system

  • The rocking foundation is effective for reducing structural seismic demand and avoiding overdesign of the foundation. It is crucial to evaluate the performance of rocking foundations because they cause plastic hinging in the soil. In this study, to derive optimized ground motion intensity measures (IMs) for rocking foundations, the efficiency of IMs correlated with engineering demand parameters (EDPs) was estimated through the coefficient determination using a physical modeling database for rocking shallow foundations. Foundation deformations, the structural horizontal drift ratio, and contribution in drift from foundation rotation and sliding were selected as crucial EDPs for the evaluation of rocking foundation systems. Among 15 different IMs, the peak ground velocity exhibited the most efficient parameters correlated with the EDPs, and it was discovered to be an efficient ground motion IM for predicting the seismic performance of rocking foundations. For vector regression, which uses two IMs to present the EDPs, the IMs indicating time features improved the efficiency of the regression curves, but the correlation was poor when these are used independently. Moreover, the ratio of the column-hinging base shear coefficient to the rocking base shear coefficient showed obvious trends for the accurate assessment of the seismic performance of rocking foundation-structure systems.

Evaluation on the Usefulness of Lung Tumor Stereotactic Radiosurgery Applying the CyberKnife $Synchrony^{TM}$ Respiratory Tracking System (사이버나이프 $Synchrony^{TM}$ 호흡 추적 장치를 이용한 폐종양 방사선수술의 유용성 평가)

  • This study evaluated the motion of tumors during the entire period of therapy and the accuracy of radiosurgery among forty eight lung tumor patients who were underwent radiosurgery using the CyberKnife Synchrony Respiratory Tracking System. The motion of lung tumor was measured by the coordinates of a gold acupuncture needle inserted into the tumor or the area around the tumor using the CyberKnife image guided system. Then the accuracy of radiosurgery was evaluated based on the error of correlation computed with the motion tracking system. The lung tumor motion is Cranio-Caudal direction by an average of $2.63{\pm}1.87\;mm$, moved left-right direction by $1.13{\pm}0.71\;mm$, and anterior-posterior direction by $1.74{\pm}1.16\;mm$. The degree of rotational movement was $1.66{\pm}1.66^{\circ}$ on X axis, $1.20{\pm}0.97^{\circ}$ on Y axis, and $1.18{\pm}0.73^{\circ}$ on Z axis. The vector of translation movement was measured to be $3.78{\pm}2.00\;mm$ on the average. The results show that directions of Cranio-Caudal(p < 0.001), anterior-posterior direction(p < 0.029), and three dimensional vector value(p < 0.002) showed statistical significance, because the lower side of tumor showed more intensive movement compared to the upper side of tumor. The radiosurgery was carried out by compensating the motion of tumor after accurate investigation of the correlation error with the average of $0.95{\pm}0.62\;mm$ during the lung tumor radiosurgery with the CyberKnife Synchrony Respiratory Tracking System.

An Adaptive Motion Estimation based on Spatial Motion Vector Correlation (움직임 벡터의 공간적 상관성을 이용한 적응적 움직임 벡터 추정)

  • 영상 압축 분야에서 데이터의 압축이 필수적인데, 이때 가장 많은 중복성을 가지고 있는 시간적 중복성은 이전 프레임의 데이터를 이용하여 움직임 추정과 움직임 보상을 수행하고 추정된 움직임 벡터에 의해서 보상된 영상과 원 영상과의 차 신호를 부호화하여 데이터를 압축한다. 움직임 추정과 움직임 보상 기법은 비디오 영상압축에서 중요한 역할을 하지만 많은 계산량으로 인하여 실시간 응용 및 고해상도 응용에 많은 어려움을 가지고 있다. 만일 움직임 추정을 하기 전에 블록의 움직임을 예측할 수 있다면 이를 바탕으로 탐색 영역에서 초기 탐색점의 위치 및 탐색 패턴을 결정할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 움직임 벡터의 높은 공간적 상관성을 이용하여 초기 탐색점의 위치와 탐색 패턴을 결정함으로써 적응적으로 움직임 벡터를 추정하는 새로운 기법을 제안하고 성능을 평가한다. 실험을 통하여 제안된 알고리즘은 계산량의 감소에 있어서 높은 성능 향상을 보였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 카메라 또는 카메라 플랫폼의 흔들림 등의 외부 영향과 비디오 시퀸스내의 모션이 함께 있을 경우의 출렁이는 비디오를 전자적으로 안정화시키는 방법을 제안한다. 일반적인 영상 안정 시스템은 모션 측정과 모션 보상의 두과정으로 구성되어 있다. 모션 측정에서 프레임간 모션 모델을 가정하고 모션 파라메타를 측정한다. 모션 보상에서는 측정된 파라메타를 이용하여 현재 영상 좌표계를 기준 영상 좌표계로 변환하고 명암값 보간을 하여 영상안정을 이루어 낸다. 그러나 상기의 방법으로는 카메라 움직임외에 다른 모션 요소가 있을 때 어려움을 겪게 된다 이의 해결을 위해 motion vector scatter diagram(MVSD)에 기반한 지배 모션 측정 방법을 제안한다 이 방법은 영상을 일정영역의 subblock으로 나눈후 각 subblock의 중심을 특징점으로 잡아 correlation 과정을 거쳐 영상간의 모션 벡터를 구한 다음 구해진 모션 벡터로 needle diagram과 MVSD를 구축한다. 구축한 MVSD의 패턴은 모션의 종류에 따라 일정한 모양을 갖게 되는데 이의 분석을 위해 목적함수를 정의하고 피 함수의 최적화를 통해 지배 모션 파라메타를 측정한 후 그 파라메타로 모션 보상을 함으로서 영상안정을 이룰 수 있다.

Visualization of Vortex Lock-on to Oscillatory Incident Flow in the Cylinder Wake Using Time-Resolved PIV (고속 PIV계측에 의한 실린더 근접후류 공진 유동 가시화)

  • Vortex lock-on or resonance behind a circular cylinder is visualized using a time-resolved PW when a single frequency oscillation is superimposed on the mean incident velocity. For vector processing, a cross-correlation algorithm in conjunction with a recursive correlation and interrogation window shifting techniques is used. Measurements are made of the Karmas and streamwise vertices in the wake-transition regime at Reynolds lumber 360. When lock-on occurs, the vortex shedding frequency is found to be half the oscillation frequency as expected from previous experiments. At the lock-on state, the Karman vortices are observed to be more disordered by the increased strength and spanwise wavelength of the streamwiee vortices, which lead? to a strong three-dimensional motion.

Efficient Mode Decision Algorithm Based on Spatial, Temporal, and Inter-layer Rate-Distortion Correlation Coefficients for Scalable Video Coding

  • The layered coding structure of scalable video coding (SVC) with adaptive inter-layer prediction causes noticeable computational complexity increments when compared to existing video coding standards. To lighten the computational complexity of SVC, we present a fast algorithm to speed up the inter-mode decision process. The proposed algorithm terminates inter-mode decision early in the enhancement layers by estimating the rate-distortion (RD) cost from the macroblocks of the base layer and the enhancement layer in temporal, spatial, and inter-layer directions. Moreover, a search range decision algorithm is also proposed in this paper to further increase the motion estimation speed by using the motion vector information from temporal, spatial, or inter-layer domains. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can determine the best mode and provide more efficient total coding time saving with very slight RD performance degradation for spatial and quality scalabilities.

A Fast Motion Estimation Algorithm with Adjustable Searching Area (적응 탐색 영역을 가지는 고속 움직임 추정 알고리즘)

  • 완전 탐색 블록 정합 알고리즘(FBMA)은 다양한 움직임 추정 알고리즘 중 최상의 움직임 추정을 할 수 있으나, 방대한 계산량이 실시간 처리의 적용에 장애 요소이다. 본 논문에서는 완전 탐색 블록 정합 알고리즘에 비해 더 낮은 계산량과 유사한 화질을 가지는 새로운 고속 움직임 추정 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안한 방법에서는 공간적인 상관성을 이용함으로써 적절한 탐색 영역의 크기를 예측할 수 있다. 현재 블록의 움직임 추정을 위하여 이웃 블록이 가지고 있는 움직임과 탐색 영역의 크기를 이용하여 현재 블록의 탐색 영역을 적응적으로 변화시키는 방법이다. 이 예측값으로 현재 블록의 탐색 영역 크기를 결정한 후, FBMA와 같이 이 영역 안의 모든 화소점들에 대하여 현재 블록을 정합하여 움직임 벡터를 추정한다. 컴퓨터 모의 실험 결과 계산량 측면에서 제안 방법이 완전 탐색 블록 정합 알고리즘보다 50%정도 감소하였으며, PSNR 측면에서는 0.08dB에서 1.29dB 정도 감소하는 좋은 결과를 얻었다.Abstract Full search block-matching algorithm (FBMA) was shown to be able to produce the best motion compensated images among various motion estimation algorithms. However, huge computational load inhibits its applicability in real applications. A new motion estimation algorithm with lower computational complexity and good image quality when compared to the FBMA will be presented in this paper. In the proposed method, The appropriate search area can be predicted by using the temporal correlation between neighbouring blocks. For motion estimation of the current block, it is the method changing adjustably search area of current block by using motion and search area size of the neighbouring block. After deciding search area size of the current block with this predicted value, we estimate motion vector that matching current block like the FBMA for every pixel in this area. By the computer simulation the computation amount of the proposed method can be greatly decreased about 50% than that of the FBMA and the good result of the PSNR can be attained.
