  • A motion pattern generation is a process of calculating a certain stable motion trajectory for stably operating a certain motion. A motion control is to make a posture of a robot stable by eliminating occurring disturbances while a robot is in operation using a pre-generated motion pattern. In this paper, a general method of motion pattern generation for a biped walking robot using universal approximator, learning neural networks, is proposed. Existing techniques are numerical methods using recursive computation and approximating methods which generate an approximation of a motion pattern by simplifying a robot's upper body structure. In near future other approaches for the motion pattern generations will be applied and compared as to be done.

  • In order to accomplish complex navigational commands, humanoid robot should be able to modify its walking period, step length and direction independently. In this paper, a novel walking pattern generation algorithm is proposed to satisfy these requirements. Modification of the walking pattern can be considered as a transition between two periodic walking patterns, which follows each navigational command. By assuming the robot as a linear inverted pendulum, the equations of motion between ZMP(Zero Moment Point) and CM(Center of Mass) state is easily derived and analyzed. After navigational command is translated into the desired CM state, corresponding CM motion is generated to achieve the desired state by using simple ZMP functions. Moreover, when the command is not feasible, feasible command is alternated by using binary search algorithm. Subsequently, corresponding CM motion is generated. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by computer simulation.

  • In this research, a stable walking pattern generation method for a biped robot is presented. A biped robot is considered as constrained multibody system by several kinematic joints. The proposed method is based on the optimized polynomial approximation of the trunk motion along the moving direction. Foot motions can be designed according to the ground condition and walking speed. To minimize the deviation from the desired ZMP, the trunk motion is generated by the fifth order polynomial approximation. Walking simulation for a virtual biped robot is performed to demonstrate the effectiveness and validity of the proposed method. The method can be applied to the biped robot for stable walking pattern generation.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a motion generation technique based on a double inverted pendulum model (DIPM) that learns and reproduces humanoid robot (or virtual human) motions while keeping its balance in a pattern similar to a human. DIPM consists of a cart and two inverted pendulums, connected in a serial. Although the structure resembles human upper- and lower-body, the balancing motion in DIPM is different from the motion that human does. To do this, we use the motion capture data to obtain the reference motion to keep the balance in the existence of external force. By an optimization technique minimizing the difference between the motion of DIPM and the reference motion, control parameters of the proposed method were learned in advance. The learned control parameters are re-used for the control signal of DIPM as input of linear quadratic regulator that generates a similar motion pattern as the reference. In order to verify this, we use virtual human experiments were conducted to generate the motion that naturally balanced.

  • This study is aimed at developing low waist slacks pattern with high satisfaction measurements and beauty for the tween generation girls. For this study, the research method was as follows. By extracting and analyzing industrial and educational slacks pattern, beautiful and motion-suitable slacks pattern will be created. This study presents the ideal slacks pattern that has great fit to tween generation girls by comparing and analyzing the previous 2 slacks pattern studies and the real clothing test. The constructed pattern in the 1st step was modified and adjusted from the best industrial patterns' the location of waist line, waist line gradient, rear waist bottom crotch, hip bottom crotch, dart length, the ease of hip girth, the fitness of rear bottom crotch line which were not well-estimated. The 2nd step was appearance and movement test based on the 1st study. In The 3rd step, the 2nd step was chosen as the final slacks study pattern for its superior appearance & movement satisfaction comparing with other patterns.

  • In this study a computer-aided textile pattern design system is implemented and a control methodology of a dobby motion is studied. The described system allows the user to design various weave patterns through graphic editor and to simulate weaving by displaying the dummy weaving process on the monitor. In addition, if the yarn colors are specified it is also possible to analyze color weaves. Thus it can replace effectively a conventional. design tool, a design paper. The main features of the system are to design weave patterns, to show weaving effect, and to make lifting plan for the dobby motion control. In dobby motion control, the mechanical. control method conventionally used is not adequate for the loom which is linked with the computer-aided textile pattern design system, so an electromagnetic control method is proposed.

  • This study proposes a sports simulation device with various harmonics generation. The proposed system is composed of 6 degrees of freedom simulator devices and three types of sports simulation such as walking, snowboard, and jet-ski. In this research, every joint movement is designed with a crank-and-slider mechanism, which is efficient for generating continuous curvature smoothly. Contrary to the conventional spatial simulator with linear actuators, harmonics generation and its spatial combinations become the crucial issue in this research. The harmonic pattern in each joint is modelled for generating smooth curvatures that are also superposed for achieving overall motions. In addition, the targeted motions of sports simulations have different physical factors of periodic gait motion, frictionless surface, and buoyant effects, which are respectively designed by integrating three dimensional graphics information.

  • This paper describes the mechanism of a new biped machine capable of doing human-robot cooperation work. The biped machine, WABIAN-2 is made of two seven degrees of freedom (DOF) legs, a two DOF waist and no DOF trunk. Its leg system consists of two three DOF ankles, two one DOF knees and two three DOF hips to deal with various walk motions. Its height is about 1.2[m], and its weight is 40[kg]. It is designed with large movable range as a human. Also, a knee stretch walk pattern generation for the biped machine to perform natural walk like a human is discussed in this paper. Its leg motion is compensated by using the motion of its waist. Basic knee stretch walk experiments using WABIAN-2 are conducted on the plane, and the validity of its mechanism and walk pattern generator is verified.

  • To accommodate various navigational commands, a humanoid should be able to change its walking motion in real time. Using the modifiable walking pattern generation (MWPG) algorithm, a humanoid can handle dynamic walking commands by changing its walking period, step length, and direction independently. If the humanoid is given a command to perform an infeasible movement, the algorithm substitutes the infeasible command with a feasible one using binary search. The feasible navigational command is subsequently translated into the desired center-of-mass (CM) state. Every sample time CM reference is generated using a zero-moment-point (ZMP) variation scheme. Based on this algorithm, various complex walking patterns can be generated, including backward and sideways walking, without detailed consideration of the feasibility of the navigational commands. In a previous study, the effectiveness of the MWPG algorithm was verified by dynamic simulation. This paper presents experimental results obtained using the small-sized humanoid robot platform DARwIn-OP.

  • In stamping-die manufacturing, the first step is to build die patterns for lost wax casting process. A recent industry trend is to manufacture the die pattern using 3-axis NC machining. This study identifies technical considerations of the pattern machining caused by the characteristics of Styrofoam material, and proposes technical methods related to establishing a process plan and generating tool paths for optimizing the pattern machining. In this paper, the process plan includes the fellowing three items: 1) deter-mining a global machining sequence-a sequence of profile, top, bottom machining and two set-ups, 2) extracting machining features from a pattern model and merging them, and 3) determining a machining sequence of machining features. To each machining feature, this study determines the machining start point, generates the approach tool path, and proposes a tool path linking method fur reducing the distance of the cutter rapid motion. Finally, a smooth tool path generation and an automatic feedrate adjustment (AFA) method are introduced far raising the machining efficiency.
