Cold-formed steel studs that are being used as load-bearing members of wall panels for steel houses have a problem with their insulation due to the heat bridging of their web. Some additional thermal insulating materials should be used. To solve this problem, the new-concept hybrid stud, which consists of a galvanized steel sheet (t = 1.0 m - 12.0 m) and a GFRP panel (t = 4.0-6.0 mm), has recently been developed. An investigation on the structural behavior and the strength capacity of this new hybrid stud has been conducted so that it can be used in load-bearing wall panels of residential buildings. This paper describes the axial compression-torsion test results of the hybrid studs under both axial compression and torsion using ATTM. The main factors of the test were the stud length, the magnitude of the initial compressive force, and the loading method of the monotonic or cyclic loading. The torsion was applied increasingly while the initial compression was kept constant to the failure of the hybrid section. The advanced analysis results obtained form the finite element procedure that considered the material properties of the high-strength galvanized steel and the GFRP were compared with the test results for verification.

Bonded concrete overlay is a favorable maintenance method since the material properties are similar to existing concrete pavements. In addition, bonded concrete overlay has advantage of structural performance based on being bonded together, both for the overlay layer and the existing pavement which perform as one monolithic layer. Therefore, it is important to have a suitable bond strength criteria for long term performance of bonded concrete overlay. This study aimed to investigate the affecting of bond strength on various bond characteristics, and to compare the bond strength between direct tensile test and indirect tensile test due to various conditions such as overlay materials, compressive and flexure strength of existing pavement, and deterioration status of existing pavement. As a result of this study, bond strength occurred by both of direct and indirect tensile test due to monotonic load is highly correlated such as coefficient of determination of 0.75 and P-value of 0.002. However, bond strength by indirect tensile test was relatively higher than bond strength by direct tensile test. It was known that correlation between direct and indirect tensile test was possible to use the characteristics analysis of bond fatigue behavior based on bond strength due to cyclic load which can simulate real field behavior of bonded concrete overlay.
High Performance Fiber-reinforced Cement Composite (HPFRCC) shows the multiple crack and damage tolerance capacity due to the interfacial bonding of the fibers to the cement matrix. For practical application, it is needed to investigate the fractural behavior of HPFRCC and understand the micro-mechanism of cement matrix with reinforcing fiber. This study is devoted to the investigation of the AE signals in HPFRCC under monotonic and cyclic uniaxial compressive loading, and total four series were tested. The major experimental parameters include the type and volume fraction of fiber (PE, PVA, SC), the hybrid type and loading pattern. The test results showed that the damage progress by compressive behavior of the HPFRCC is a characteristic for the hybrid fiber type and volume fraction. It is found from acoustic emission (AE) parameter value, that the second and third compressive load cycles resulted in successive decrease of the amplitude as compared with the first compressive load cycle. Also, the AE Kaiser effect existed in HPFRCC specimens up to 80% of its ultimate strength. These observations suggested that the AE Kaiser effect has good potential to be used as a new tool to monitor the loading history of HPFRCC.

To improve the land use of urban, Construction of the circular steel column is required recently. The circular steel columns have a advantage for improving a load carrying capacity as wall as reducing a effective section area. However, the circular steel columns under service load, such as earthquake, shows a tendency to cause local buckling and large deformation. To prevent these phenomena, use of diaphragm is considered. It is reported that longitudinal stiffeners has a effect on improving a buckling and fatigue performance of steel structures. The research of effect on diaphragm is not sufficient. Under monotonic and cyclic loadings diaphragm make a important role to prevent local buckling and deformation of used steel structures. Therefore, influence of diaphragm on performance of used steel structures is investigated. In this study, the influence of diaphragm on seismic and deformation performance of circular steel piers was investigated by using elastic-plastic finite element analysis considered geometrical and material non-linearity. The seismic performance of circular steel columns was evaluated for analytical parameter of manufactured part. The seismic performance of circular steel columns was clarified by comparing an energy dissipation of circular steel piers.
This paper investigates the cracking and tension-stiffening behavior of 100 MPa shrinkage-compensated strain-hardening cement composite (SHCC) and conventional concrete tie elements in monotonic and cyclic tension. Strain and surface crack formation of tension ties were monitored with two strain displacement transducers and a photo microscope with a lens of magnification 50 times. Three different cement composites such as conventional concrete, shrinkage-compensated SHCC, and normal SHCC were used in the tie specimens to investigate the influence of the cement composite type on the tension stiffening and cracking behavior. Test results indicated that initial shrinkage of the ultra high-strength cement composites is greatly reduced as the 10% replacement of cement by the shrinkage-compensating admixture based on calcium sulfo-aluminate (CSA). The test results on the SHCC tension ties showed that the first cracking load decreases proportionally to the initial shrinkage strain. Reinforced ultra high-strength SHCC ties with the initial shrinkage compensation exhibited improved tension stiffening and smaller crack spacings, i.e. the reduction in crack width. Cyclic loading did not have a significant effect on tension stiffening and cracking behavior of tension ties with normal concrete and SHCC materials.
One of the reasons for brittle failure in reinforced concrete structures subjected to severe earthquake is due to large local bond-slippage of bars resulting in fast bond degradation between reinforcing bars and concrete. This study aims to evaluate effects of bar deformation height on bond performance, specially, bond degradation under cyclic loading. Bond test specimens were constructed with machined bars with high relative rib areas. The degree of confinement by transverse bars is also another key parameters in this bond test. From test results, amounts of energy dissipation are calculated and compared for each parameter. Test results show that bond strength and stiffness drops significantly as cycles increases. The confinement and high relative rib area are effective to delay bond degradation, as the reduction of bond strength of cyclic loading compared to monotonic loading decreased for bars with large confinement and high relative rib areas. The energy dissipation also increases as the degree of confinement and relative rib area increases. However, tested bars with very high rib areas show that the bond may be damaged at relatively small slip because of high stiffness. The study will help to understand the bond degradation mechanism due to bar deformation height under cyclic loading and be useful to develop new deformed bars with high relative rib areas.
The purpose of this study was to Investigate the effects of bent - up bar Within beam - column 1lint core with High - Strength Concrete up to 800kg/$cm^2$. To achieve these objectives, 5 specimens were designed and tested under monotoric loading and reversed cyclic loadings. The primary variables were the number of bent-up bars, compressive strength of concrete and loading patterns. The results showed that the load capacity of specimen subjected to monotonic loading had more large than that of specirnn subjected to reversed cyclic loadings and the bent - up bar within joint core could prevented the crack at the joint face from propagating into the pint core but the failure was concentrated at the face of beam - column pint. Thus the study on flexural strength ratio should be accomplished before using bent - up bars within the joint core.

The steel-plate concrete composite beam is composed of a steel plate, concrete and a shear connector to combine the two inhomogeneous materials. In general, the steel plate is assembled by welding an existing composite beam. In this study, a new steel-plate concrete composite (SPCC) beam was developed to reduce the size of the shear connector and improve its workability. The SPCC beam was composed of folded steel plates and concrete, without any shear connector. The folded steel plate was assembled with high strength bolts instead of welding. To improve the workability in field construction, a hat-shaped cap was attached in the junction with the slab. Monotonic two-point load testing was conducted under displacement control mode. The flexural strength of the SPCC beam specimen was calculated to be 76% of that of the complete composite beam by using the plastic stress distribution method and strain compatibility method. The cap acted as the stud and accessory. The synthesis rate could be increased by controlling the gap of the cap, and the bending performance could be evaluated by using the strain fitting method considering the synthesis rate of the SPCC beam.

The steel-plate concrete composite beam is composed of a steel plate, concrete and shear connector to combine two inhomogeneous materials. In general, the steel plate is assembled by welding an existing composite beam. In this study, the SPC beam was composed of folding steel plates and concrete, without a headed stud. The folding steel plate was assembled by a high strength bolt instead of welding. To improve the workability in a field construction, a hat-shaped cap was attached to the junction with a slab. Monotonic load testing under two points was conducted under displacement control mode to analyze the flexural strength of the SPC beam using a cap as the shear connector. Five specimens with shear connector types, protrusion length, and different thickness of steel plates were constructed and tested. The experimental results were analyzed through the relationship between the shear strength ratio and flexural strength in KBC 2009. The test results showed a shear strength ratio of more than 40 %. In the case of using a cap-like specimen as the shear connector, the flexural strength was 70% of the value calculated as a fully composite beam. In addition, the cap showed a smaller shear strength than the stud, but the cap served as a shear connection. When the thickness of the steel plate was taken as a variable, the steel plate exhibited a bending strength of approximately 70% compared to a fully formed steel plate, and exhibited similar deformation performance. Local buckling occurred due to incomplete composite behavior, but local buckling occurred at a 5% higher strength for a relatively thick steel plate. The buckling width also decreased by 15%.
Steel-concrete composite structures have been extensively used in building, bridges, and other civil engineering infrastructure. Shear stud connectors between steel and concrete are essential in composite members to guarantee the effectiveness of their behavior in terms of strength and deformability. This study focuses on investigating the shear stiffness of headed studs embedded in several types of concrete with wide range of compressive strength, and their effects on the elastic behavior of steel-concrete composite girders were evaluated. Firstly, totally 206 monotonic push-out tests from the literature were reviewed to investigate the shear stiffness of headed studs embedded in various types of concrete (NC, HPC, UHPC etc.). Shear stiffness of studs is defined as the secant stiffness of the load-slip curve at 0.5Vu, and a formulation for predicting defined shear stiffness in elastic state was proposed, indicating that the stud diameter and the elastic modulus of steel and concrete are the main factors. And the shear stiffness predicted by the new formula agree well with test results for studs with a diameter ranging from 10 to 30 mm in the concrete with compressive strength ranging from 22.0 to 200.0MPa. Then, the effects of shear stiffness on the elastic behaviors of composite girders with different sizes and under different loading conditions were analyzed, the equations for calculating the stress and deformation of simply supported composite girders considering the influence of connection's shear stiffness were derived under different loading conditions using classical linear partial-interaction theory. As the increasing of shear stiffness, the stress and deflection at the most unfavorable section under partial connected condition tend to be those under full connected condition, but the approaching speed decreases gradually. Finally, the connector's shear stiffness was recommended for fully connection in composite girders with different dimensions under different loading conditions. The findings from present study may provide a reference for the prediction of shear stiffness for headed studs and the elastic design of steel-concrete composite girder.
