  • We present collections of optical photometry for a pre-main sequence star HBC 722. It showed large amplitude optical outburst (${\Delta}V=4.7$ mag) in 2010 and classified as a FU Orionis type object. We have been observing HBC 722 from 2011 April to 2013 May, using Camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse (CQUEAN) attached to the 2.1 m Otto Struve telescope at the McDonald Observatory. Time-series monitoring data (minute-scale interval) were obtained in SDSS r, i and z bands to see short-scale behaviors as well as trace the long-term brightness changes after the eruption in 2010. Interestingly, it started to brighten from 2011 early summer and became brighter than the first outburst peak in our 2013 May observation. We expect that the recovering phase would result from re-increase of disk accretion rate, might attribute to distinctive short-scale color features. In this presentation, we report long- and short-timescale optical behaviors of HBC 722 in the post-outburst phase.

  • In this study, the RDII predictions were compared using two methodologies, i.e., the RTK-based and regression methods. Long-term (1/1/2011~12/31/2011) monitoring data, which consists of 10-min interval streamflow and the amount of precipitation, were collected at the domestic study area (1.36 km2 located in H county), and used for the construction of the RDII prediction models. The RTK method employs super position of tri-triangles, and each triangle (called, unit hydrograph) is defined by three parameters (i.e., R, T and K) determined/optimized using Genetic Algorithm (GA). In regression method, the MovingAverage (MA) filtering was used for data processing. Accuracies of RDII predictions from these two approaches were evaluated by comparing the root mean square error (RMSE) values from each model, in which the values were calculated to 320.613 (RTK method) and 420.653 (regression method), respectively. As a results, the RTK method was found to be more suitable for RDII prediction during extreme rainfall event, than the regression method.

  • SAR interferometry (InSAR) using the space-borne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) have recently become one of the most effective tools monitoring surface changes caused by landslides, earthquakes, subsidences or volcanic eruption. This study focuses on examining the feasibility of InSAR using the RADARSAT data. Although the RABARSAT SAR with its high resolution and variable incidence angle has several advantages for repeat-pass InSAR, it has two key limitations: first, the orbit is not precisely known; and second, RADARSAT's 24-day repeat pass interval is not very favourable for retaining useful coherence. In this study, two pairs of RADARSAT data in the Nahanni area, NWT, Canada have been tested. We will discuss about the special consideration required on the interferometric processing steps specifically for RADARSAT data including image co-registration, spectral filtering in both azimuth and range, estimation of the interferometric baseline, and correction of the interferogram with respect to the "flat earth" phase contribution. Preliminary results can be summarized as: i) the properly designed azimuth filter based upon the antenna characteristic improves coherence considerably if difference in Doppler centroid of the two images is relatively large; ii) the co-registration process combined by fringe spectrum and amplitude cross-correlation techniques results in optimal matching; iii) the baseline is not always possible to be estimated from the definitive orbit information.

  • A new method for detecting and eliminating the Electrocardiogram(ECG) artifact from the scalp Electroencephalogram(EEG) is proposed. Based on the single channel EEG, the proposed method consists of 4 procedures: emphasizing the R-wave of ECG artifact from EEG using the least squares acceleration(LSA) filter, detecting the R-wave from the LSA filtered EEG using the phase space method and R-R interval, generating the delayed impulse synchronized to the R-wave and elimination of the ECG artifacts based on the adaptive digital filter using the impulse and raw EEG. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated in the two separating parts of R-wave detection and, ECG estimation and elimination from EEG. In the R-wave detection, the proposed method showed the mean error rate of 6.285(%). In the ECG estimation and elimination using simulated and/or real EEG recordings, we found that the ECG artifacts were successfully estimated and eliminated in comparison with the conventional multi-channel techniques, in which independent component analysis and ensemble average method are used. From this we can conclude that the proposed method is useful for the detecting and eliminating the ECG artifact from single channel EEG and simple for ambulatory/portable EEG monitoring system.

  • Streaming data processing is an area of interest with much research under way. There has been increasing attention on the demands for efficient processing of streaming data produced in the application areas such as monitoring and sensor network. We have developed a continuous query processing system for streaming data and evaluated its performance in this paper. XML, the standard for data exchange on the web, is used as the model for the streaming data and the XQuery appended with a time interval is adopted as the query language for expressing con-tinuous queries. In the proposed system, the result is produced through background processing and materialized for reute in subsequent query processing. Through a detailed set of performance experiments, we shoed the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • In this study, the earth retaining structure using a row of piles considering plastic flow of the ground is suggested for shallow excavation works instead of conventional anchored sheet-pile wall method in the marine clays with high groundwater level. The behavior of the earth retaining structure using a row of piles is precisely observed during excavation by inclinometer and piezometer installed in opposite to the excavation side. As a result of field measurement, it was found that the behaviors of the piles and the soil were influenced mainly by slope of excavation face, interval ratio of piles, fixity condition of pile head, and stability number, etc. The earth retaining structure using a row of piles is ascertained for workability, stability, and economical construction on the soft ground having no adjacent structures.

  • Wireless sensor network is consist of multiple sensor nodes and performs a shared tasks through the coordination of sensor nodes. Traffic in WSN is categorized as periodical monitoring traffic, event-driven traffic and query-based traffic. Periodic traffic takes significant proportion of the whole traffic processing because multiple sensor nodes generate traffic in a steady interval although the generation frequency of periodic traffic is low. In this paper, we propose a traffic control algorithm of network protocol for periodic traffic in terms of energy efficiency and conduct performance analysis of the algorithm.

  • Although copper and zinc are essential metals for human health, excessive level of these metals is toxic. Besides, aluminum is known to induce various adverse health effects including neurological disorders. Therefore, monitoring the human body burden of these metals is important in preventing adverse health effects. In this study, we assessed the exposure to copper, zinc, and aluminum among an adult population residing in Daegu and Kyungbuk areas. Based on data from 171 participants, we found that the geometric mean copper, zinc, and aluminum concentrations in hair were $15.1\;{\mu}g/g$ [95% confidence interval (CI): 13.1~17.5], 76.9 (95% CI: 70.4~84.1), and $1.11\;{\mu}g/g$ (95% CI: 0.81~1.51), respectively. The copper concentrations in hair were significantly related to age, education, and residence area. In addition, zinc concentrations in hair were significantly related to age, whereas higher hair aluminum concentrations were related to alcohol drinking. Correlations between copper and zinc in hair had a significant positive correlation. Our findings suggest that the body burden of copper, zinc, and aluminum varies according to demographic factors, and hair could be used as a valuable biological medium for metal exposure.

  • This paper is aimed to analyze the characteristics of simultaneous voltage, current and temperature signals for poor connection on electrical connector. In order to attain this purpose, detected were the current and voltage signals on electric wire with series arc, named arc signals, and also monitored were the changes of RMS, instantaneous value of waveform in time domain and temperature value with video. Two states are made normal state over $5kgf{\cdot}cm$ and poor connections state below $0.5kgf{\cdot}cm$ by screw gage. In the voltage signal case, the voltage drop was increased with which the current was increased. In the current signal case, poor connections at the time interval 1~4A all showed "shoulder", as distinct difference from the normal state shown waveform pattern. In the temperature signal case, poor connections are twice at 1A and five times at 4A in the normal state. The temperature continues insulation of electrical wiring and connector can be carbonized. The results of this study will be effectively used in developing the preventive devices and system for electric fire by poor connections.

  • This paper presents a microextractor for the separation of DNA molecules by their sizes. The DNA microextractor immobilizes the DNA molecules of specific size in the micropillar array by adjusting the period of the crossed electric field, thus providing a starting-point independent target DNA extraction method without separation process monitoring. The DNA microextractor has been fabricated by a three-mask micromachining process. The velocity of three different DNA molecules has been measured at the electric field of E=5V/0.8cm in the fabricated DNA microextractor, resulting in the reorientation times of $4.80{\pm}0.44sec,\;7.12{\pm}0.75sec$, and $9.88{\pm}0.30sec$ for ${\lambda}$ DNA, micrococcus DNA, and T4 DNA, respectively. T4 DNA is trapped in the micropillar array when the crossed electric field of 5V/0.8cm is applied alternately at a 10 second time interval. The present DNA microextractor filters the DNA in a specific size range by adjusting the magnitude and/or the period of the crossed electric field applied in the micropillar array.
