Due to global warming, various natural disasters such as floods and localized heavy rains are increasing. If a natural disaster can be detected and analyzed in advance and effectively, it can prevent enormous damage due to natural disasters. Recent development in visual sensor technologies has encouraged various studies on monitoring environments including rivers. In this paper, we propose a method to detect river regions from river images which can be exploited for river surveillance systems using video sensor networks. In the proposed method, we first analyze the color properties of the river region and the background region of a image and then propose a way to select the proper color channel and binarize the image to detect the river region. It is shown by experimental results that the proposed method is simple but detects river regions accurately.

The various natural disasters such as floods and localized heavy rains are increasing due to the global warming. If a natural disaster can be detected and analyzed in advance and more effectively, it can prevent enormous damage of natural disasters. Recent development in visual sensor technologies has encouraged various studies on monitoring environments including rivers. In this paper, we propose a method to detect water regions from river images which can be exploited for river surveillance systems using video sensor networks. In the proposed method, we first segment a river image finely using the minimum spanning tree algorithm. Then, the seed regions for the river region and the background region are set by using the preliminary information, and each seed region is expanded by merging similar regions to segment the water region from the image. Experimental results show that the proposed method separates the water region from a river image easier and accurately.

The database for driving patterns can be utilized in various system such as automatic driving system, driver safety system, and it can be helpful to monitor driving style. Therefore, we propose a driving pattern recognition system in which the sensor streams from a smartphone are recorded and used for recognizing driving events. In this paper we focus on the driving pattern recognition that is an essential and preliminary step of driving style recognition. We divide input sensor streams into 7 driving patterns such as, Left-turn(L), U-turn(U), Right-turn(R), Rapid-Braking(RB), Quick-Start(QS), Rapid-Acceleration (RA), Speed-Bump(SB). To classify driving patterns, first, a preprocessing step for data smoothing is followed by an event detection step. Last the detected events are classified by DTW(Dynamic Time Warping) algorithm. For assisting drivers we provide the classified pattern with the corresponding video stream which is recorded with its sensor stream. The proposed system will play an essential role in the safety driving system or driving monitoring system.
Since Alarm Monitoring Service was introduced in Korea in 1981, the market has been increasing and is expected to increase continually. Some factors such as the increase of social security need and the change of safety consciousness, increase of persons who live alone could be affected positively on Alarm Monitoring Service industry. As Alarm Monitoring Service come into wide use, the understanding of electronic security service is spread and consumer's demand is difficult, so consideration about new developmental plan is need to respond to the change actively. Electronic security system is consist of various kinds of element, so every element could do their role equally. Alarm Monitoring Service should satisfy consumer's various needs because it is not necessary commodity, also electronic security device could be easily operated and it's appearance has to have a good design. To solve the false alarm problem, detection sensor's improvement should be considered preferentially and development of new type of sensor that operate dissimilarly to replace former sensor is needed. On the other hand, to settle the matter that occurred by response time, security company could explain the limit on Alarm Monitoring System to consumer honestly and ask for an understanding. If consumer could be joined into security activity by security agent's explanation, better security service would be provided with mutual confidence. To save response time the consideration on the introduction of GIS(Global Information System) is needed rather than GPS(Global Positioning System). Although training program for security agents is important, several benefits for security agents should be considered together. The development of new business model is required for preparation against market stagnation and the development of new commodity to secure consumer for housing service rather than commercial facility service. for the purpose of those, new commodity related to home-network system and video surveillance system could be considered, also new added service with network between security company and consumer for a basis is to be considered.

Recently, the cameras which used for observation are installed in children protection area and local crime prevention area in order to protect life and property and by its work being recognized and are installed more. Normal cameras have cost problem to observe multiple area and detail, because they can observe only one place. PTZ camera can observe multiple area by moving focus by schedule or remote control, but it can't automatically move the focus of it to the place where event occurred, because it can't recognize the place. In this study, we can monitor multiple area effectively, by installing a wireless sensor node equipped with temperature, lighting, gas and human detection sensor to each area, to monitor many place low-price and actively and to move the focus of PTZ camera to preset position, and send recorded video to the user, when the various sensor data received from wireless sensors in observation area are to be determined abnormal by analyzing. In addition, at night we can record a scene using infrared, but to reduce power consumption of lighting system which are installed to improve resolution, it supplies power to the lighting system when event occurred. So we were able to implement low power green monitoring system.

In order to monitor internal risk factors such as fire, terror, etc. on the subway station, the surveillance systems using CCTV and various kinds of sensors have been implemented and recently, introduction of surveillance systems using an advanced IT technology, sensor network technology is tried on several areas. Since 2007, Korean government has made an effort to develop the intelligent surveillance and monitoring system, which can monitor fire, intrusion, passenger congestion, health-state of structure, etc., by using wireless sensor network technology and intelligent video analytic technique. For that purpose, this study carried out field wireless communication environment test on Chungmuro Station of Seoul Metro on the basis of ZigBee that is considered as a representative wireless sensor network before field application of the intelligent integrated surveillance system being developed, arranged and analyzed and ZigBee based wireless communication environment test results on the platform and waiting room of Chungmuro Station on this paper. Results of wireless spectrum analysis on the platform and waiting room showed that there is no radio frequency overlapped with that of ZigBee based sensor network and no frequency interference with adjacent frequencies separated 10MHz or more. As results of wireless data transmission test using ZigBee showed that data transmission is influenced by multi-path fading effect from the number and flow rate of passengers on the platform or the waiting room rather than effects from entrance and exit of the train to/from the platform, it should be considered when implementing the intelligent integrated surveillance system on the station.
Smart phone and its applications are currently bringing about significant changes in our lives and it is expected that applying such technology in the area of agriculture could increase the value added and productivity of agriculture with its various uses. This paper proposed a smartphone-based application for monitoring and managing livestock barn in real-time anytime, anywhere. In the proposed application, the livestock barn environment and video information collected in ubiquitous livestock barn based on wireless sensor networks can be used by user to monitor the livestock barn in real-time through the use of smart phone to control the livestock barn facilities anytime, anywhere. In this study, an augmented reality(AR)-based information management system for agricultural facility is proposed. Using a variety of sensed data transmitted by Lora-based wireless networks deployed at the agricultural facility, this system is capable of augmenting the sensed data and displaying them on the user's smartphone screen to provide visualized information to user. When users point their smartphone camera to the agricultural facility, the environment information collected from numerous sensors installed at the facility would be visualized and appear on the screen. Unlike traditional system which requires user to search a specific facility and then select sensor(s) to obtain the environment information, the proposed system shows the information on smartphone screen by augmenting it with real image captured by camera without doing a series of time-taking selection process. Since the way of acquiring information is through image or video, this system contributes to convenient monitoring and efficient management for agricultural facility.

Accidents in which oil spills occur intermittently in the ocean due to ship collisions and sinkings. In order to prepare prompt countermeasures when such an accident occurs, it is necessary to accurately identify the current status of spilled oil. To this end, the Coast Guard patrols the target area with a fixed-wing airplane or helicopter and checks it with the naked eye or video, but it was difficult to determine the area contaminated by the spilled oil and its exact location on the map. Accordingly, this study develops a technology for direct ortho-rectification by automatically geo-referencing aerial images collected by the Coast Guard without individual ground reference points to identify the current status of spilled oil. First, meta information required for georeferencing is extracted from a visualized screen of sensor information such as video by optical character recognition (OCR). Based on the extracted information, the external orientation parameters of the image are determined. Images are individually orthorectified using the determined the external orientation parameters. The accuracy of individual orthoimages generated through this method was evaluated to be about tens of meters up to 100 m. The accuracy level was reasonably acceptable considering the inherent errors of the position and attitude sensors, the inaccuracies in the internal orientation parameters such as camera focal length, without using no ground control points. It is judged to be an appropriate level for identifying the current status of spilled oil contaminated areas in the sea. In the future, if real-time transmission of images captured during flight becomes possible, individual orthoimages can be generated in real time through the proposed individual orthorectification technology. Based on this, it can be effectively used to quickly identify the current status of spilled oil contamination and establish countermeasures.
