Structural Damage Monitoring of Harbor Caissons with Interlocking Condition

  • The objective of this study is to monitor the health status of harbor caissons which have potential foundation damage. To obtain the objective, the following approaches are performed. Firstly, a structural damage monitoring(SDM) method is designed for interlocked multiple-caisson structures. The SDM method utilizes the change in modal strain energy to monitor the foundation damage in a target caisson unit. Secondly, a finite element model of a caisson system which consists of three caisson units is established to verify the feasibility of the proposed method. In the finite element simulation, the caisson units are constrained each other by shear-key connections. The health status of the caisson system against various levels of foundation damage is monitored by measuring relative modal displacements between the adjacent caissons.

Application of a wireless pressure sensing system to coastal wind monitoring

  • This paper describes the application of a wireless data acquisition system to monitor wind pressures and velocities with absolute pressure sensors and an anemometer. The system was developed for future deployment, as part of a research effort currently underway to instrument coastal homes in Florida to monitor roof wind pressures during hurricanes. The proposed wireless system will replace the current system that involves a large amount of hardwired connections from the sensors to the data processing unit that requires labor intensive wiring and preparation of the home. The paper describes comparison studies and field tests to assess the performance of the system. The new system offers the advantages of light hardware, ease of installation, capacity for 48 hours of continuous data acquisition, good frequency and amplitude responses, and a relatively simple maintenance. However, the tests also show that the shape of the shell that has been previously used to protect the sensors might interfere with the proper measurement of the pressures.

  • Recently, the research and development of the fish cage in open sea from domestic is active and it is almost complement with commercial scale test on 'seogwipo'. But domestic technology is not sufficient of management RMS(Remote Monitoring System) with advanced country, so it is difficult to maintenance and monitor fish cage in open sea. This paper introduces a fish cage environmental monitoring system for measuring pH, DO and temperature. A signal is treated with DAU(Data Acquisition Unit) by a wireless communication method and transfers data to host computer for data processing. These data are graphically shown on the monitor with LabVIEW program and logged on the data processing system in the form of file.

Similarities of Tobacco Mosaic Virus-Induced Hypersensitive Cell Death and Copper-Induced Abiotic Cell Death in Tobacco

  • Hypersensitive cell death of plants during incompatible plant-pathogen interactions is one of the efficient defense mechanisms of plants against pathogen infections. For better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in the plant hypersensitive response (HR), TMV-induced biotic plant cell death and CuSO4-induced abiotic plant cell death were compared in terms of expression patterns of ten different defense-related genes as molecular markers. The genes include five pathogenesis-related protein genes, two plant secondary metabolite-associated genes, two oxidative stress-related genes and one wound-inducible gene isolated from tobacco. Northern blot analyses revealed that a same set of defense-related genes was induced during both biotic and abiotic cell death but with different time and magnitude. The expression of defense-related genes in tobacco plants was temporarily coincided with the time of cell death. However, when suspension cell cultures was used to monitor the expression of defense-related genes, different patterns of the gene expression were detected. This result implies that three are common and, in addition, also different branches of signaling pathways leading to the induced expression of defense-related genes in tobacco during the pathogen- and heavy metal-induced cell death.

  • 1530-1560nm와 1 570-1600nm 대역에서 이득을 갖는 640Gbps(10 Gbps$\times$64채널) 파장 다중화된 광신호 증폭용 유니트를 설계, 제작하고 특성을 측정하였다. 640Gbps 광신호 즈옥 유니트의 이득 블록은 최적 광출력 특성을 유지하고 이득 불록의 동작 상태를 감시할 수 있도록 마이크로 프로세서에 의해서 제어된다. 640 Gbps 광신호 증폭 유니트의 각 대역별 광증폭 유니트는 총 입력 광 세기 범위 -5~+1 dBm에서 이득 평탄도 1dB이내 잡음 지수 7.2dB 이내 +21dBm 이상의 고출력 특성을 갖는다.

  • HL7은 병원정보 시스템에서 사용되는 정보와 관련된 표준화된 프로토콜이다. 생체 정보 웹 뷰어 시스템 또한 의료 영상 및 전송에 대해 표준화된 프로토콜이다. 본 논문에서는 ICU(Intensive Care Unit)에 설치된 Central Monitor에서 확인할 수 있는 환자의 생체 정보들을 웹상에서 실시간 확인할 수 있는 시스템 구성을 제안하기 위하여 생체정보 수신 모듈과 웹 뷰어 시스템을 구성하였다. 생체정보 수신 모듈은 Central Monitor로부터 수신할 수 있는 Raw Data 형태의 환자의 생체 정보를 생체 정보 웹 뷰어 시스템에서 사용가능 한 데이터로 분석할 수 있도록 설계가 이루어져 있다. 웹 뷰어 시스템은 환자 생체 정보에 대한 실시간성과 생체 정보에 대한 데이터의 연속성을 부여하여 베드 사이트의 환자에게서 발생된 모든 생체정보에 의해 환자 관리를 데이터 베이스를 이용하여 전산화함으로써 환자의 광범위한 자료 검색이 이루어지므로 획기적인 원격 진료로 활용이 가능하다. 또한 적절한 생체 정보데이터의 교환과 정보 관리의 수정을 통해 병원정보 시스템은 모든 병원 관계자의 보다나은 업무처리를 향상시킬 수 있다.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the pain reducing effects of the dextrose-coated pacifier on venipuncture in premature infants. Methods: The design of this study is a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design and a crossover trial. The analysed cases were 40 premature infants (20 in experimental group and 20 in control group) in neonatal intensive care unit of a University Hospital, Gyeongnam Province, Korea. The data were collected from April to October, 2009. The experimental treatment was carried out nursing 20% dextrose-coated pacifier on venipuncture for IV injection. The instruments were $O_2$ saturation and heart rate on pulse oxymeter monitor to measure physiologic pain responses, and NIPS to measure behavioral pain responses. Collected data were analyzed with $x_2$ test, t-test using SPSS program. Results: The effects of the 20% dextrose-coated pacifier were found in the physiologic (only heart rate) and behavioral pain response on venipuncture. Conclusion: These finding is suggested that the dextrose-coated pacifier could be an effective nursing intervention for reducing pain on venipuncture in premature infants.

  • The device that we are developing is a microprocessor-based, portable arrhythmia monitor that ultimately will need processing algorithm similar to those found now in monitoring systems in the cardiac care unit of today's hospital. Our initial goal is to replace the functions of the Holter tape recorder, the current device of choice for determining if an ambulatory patient has potential heart disease.

  • The HFC network is one of the most useful network for high-speed data communication. Optical node unit, Trunk branch amplifier, Tap-offs, and Uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) are in this network. Since power failures of the equipments in the network is crucial, UPS should be periodically monitored and controlled by the Host to prevent long power failures. This paper describes a UPS management system which is to monitor and control UPS to supply electric power to ONUs and TBAs in the network.

  • TCMS(Train Control & Management System) control monitor and test the main on-board equipments including propulsion/brake unit by the serial transmission line. TCMS reduces interface circuits and number of train lines by the software logic and utilizing serial communication method.
