The paper presents an innovative steel moment frame with the replaceable reinforced concrete wall panel (SRW) structural system, in which the replaceable concrete wall can play a role to increase the overall lateral stiffness of the frame system. Two full scale specimens composed of the steel frames and the replaceable reinforced concrete wall panels were tested under the cyclic horizontal load. The failure mode, load-displacement response, deformability, and the energy dissipation capacity of SRW specimens were investigated. Test results show that the two-stage failure mode is characterized by the sequential failure process of the replaceable RC wall panel and the steel moment frame. It can be found that the replaceable RC wall panels damage at the lateral drift ratio greater than 0.5%. After the replacement of a new RC wall panel, the new specimen maintained the similar capacity of resisting lateral load as the previous one. The decrease of the bearing capacity was presented between the two stages because of the connection failure on the top of the replaceable RC wall panel. With the increase of the lateral drift, the percentage of the lateral force and the overturning moment resisted by the wall panel decreased for the reason of the reduction of its lateral stiffness. After the failure of the wall panel, the steel moment frame shared almost all the lateral force and the overturning moment.
A computational study on the supersonic flow around the lateral jet controlled missile has been performed. Case studies have been performed by comparing the normal force coefficient and the moment coefficient of a missile body for several different jet flow conditions, angle of attacks, circumferential jet locations, and spouting jet angles. For the several different jet flow conditions, which include the jet pressure, the jet Mach number, and the corresponding jet mass flow rate, the results show that the normal force coefficient is almost proportional to the jet thrust but the moment coefficient is not. Distinctly different flow phenomena can be noticed as the pressure ratio and the jet Mach number increase. By investigating the angle of attack effect to the normal force and the pitching moment, it has been identified that the normal force and the pitching moment show nonlinearity with respect to the angle of attack. From the detailed flow field analyses with respect to the jet flow conditions and the angle of attacks, it is verified that most of the normal force loss and the pitching moment generation are taken place at the low-pressure region behind the jet nozzle. Furthermore, the normal force and the pitching moment characteristics of the missile have been identified by comparing different circumferential jet locations and spouting jet angles.
The finite element simulation model and the program to calculate the reverse moment have been developed to analyse the stress state and deformation of pipe bending using local induction heating with small bending radius in this study. The reverse moment that is to be applied on the bending arm to control the wall thinning ratio of the bending outside to within a particular value. Even though the demand of pipes with small bending radius is increasing in power plants and ship buildings, the welded elbows are still widely used. The bending process with or without a reverse moment acting on the bending arm has been simulated. The reverse moments calculated from the developed program are in good agreement with the finite element simulations and the experiments.
Because of the orthotropic elastic properties and significant two-way bending action, orthotropic plate theory may be suitable for describing the behavior of concrete filled grid bridge decks. Current AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification(2004) has live load moment equations considering flexural rigidity ratio between longitudinal and transverse direction, but the Korea highway bridge design specification(2005) doesn't. The Korea highway bridge standard specification LRFD(1996) considers an orthotropic plate model with a single load to estimate live load moments in concrete filled grid bridge decks, which may not be conservative. This paper presents live load moment equations for truck and passenger car, based on orthotropic plate theory. The equations of truck model use multiple presence factor, impact factor, design truck and design tandem of the Korea highway bridge standard specification LRFD(1996). The estimated moments are verified through finite-element analyses.
The moment-curvature envelope describes the changes in the flexural capacity with deformation during a nonlinear analysis. Therefore, the moment-curvature analysis for reinforced concrete columns, indicating the available flexural strength and ductility, can be conducted providing the stress-strain relation for the concrete and steel are known. The moments and curvatures associated with increasing flexural deformations of the column may be computed for various column axial loads by incrementing the curvature and satisfying the requirements of strain compatibility and equilibrium of forces. Clearly it is important to have accurate information concerning the complete stress-strain curve of confined high-strength concrete in order to conduct reliable moment-curvature analysis to assess the ductility available from high-strength columns. However, it is not easy to explicitly characterize the mechanical behavior of confined high-strength concrete because of various parameter values, such as the confinement type of rectilinear ties, the compressive strength of concrete, the volumetric ratio and strength of rectangular ties, etc. So a stress-strain confinement model is developed which can simulate a complete inelastic moment-curvature relations of a high-strength reinforced concrete column
This paper presents an experimental investigation of the flexural behavior of square hollow steel section (HSS) beams subjected to pure bending. Totally six unfilled and nine ultra high performance concrete (UHPC)-filled HSS beams were tested under four-point bending until failure. The effects of the steel tube thickness, the yield strength of the steel tube and the strength of concrete on moment capacity, curvature, and ductility of UHPC-filled HSS beams were examined. The performance indices named relative ductility index (RDI) and strength increasing factor (SIF) were investigated with regard to different height-to-thickness ratio of the specimens. The flexural strengths obtained from the tests were compared with the values predicted by Eurocode 4, AISC-LRFD and CIDECT design codes. The results showed that the increase in the moment capacity and the corresponding curvature is much greater for thinner HSS beams than thicker ones. Eurocode 4 and AISC-LRFD predict the ultimate moment capacity of the all UHPC-filled HSS beams conservatively.
The added mass and the added moment of inertia of a hard chine hull for heave and pitch were calculated by strip method. For the $k_2$ coefficients, Hwang's values for the straight-framed sections were used and for $k_2$ coefficients Porter's values for ellipses were used in the calculation. Comparisons on added mass and added moment of inertia of hard chine hull with those of ordinary hull form were briefly discussed. The results of the calculation for hard Chine hull give greater valves than ordinary ships at zero Froude Number. Beam draft ratio seems to be much influenced on the added mass and added moment of inertia.
A rational and simple analytical model to predict the time varying cracking moment of reinforced concrete sections under sustained loading is developed. The modeling procedure is based on equilibrium and compatibility requirements and takes into account the interdependent effects of creep and shrinkage as well as the presence of axial loading. A parametric study is conducted in which particular consideration is given to the effects of reinforcement ratio, level of loading, and creep and shrinkage characteristics of concrete. It is concluded that the reduction in cracking moment is mainly attributed to shrinkage. The effect of shrinkage is more pronounced at low levels of sustained loading and at high reinforcement ratios. This effect is lessened by the compression steel and creep particularly when the applied moment is near the cracking moment.

Deflections of Reinforced concrete structures must satisfy the permissible values and it is hard to predict the due to uncertainty of deflection of the reinforced concrete structures. Thus, many researchers have suggested a number of experimental equation of deflection against the uncertainty. In a specification, a procedure to evaluate flexure deflection using effective moment of inertia and moment-curvature relation is suggested. ACI offers a method using effective moment of inertia, which has been developed by Branson. Eurocode 2(EC2) suggests a procedure to evaluate deflection of reinforced concrete structure using moment-curvature relation. In this paper, a series of experiments were conducted on the singly reinforced concrete beams which have the same reinforcement ratio and different concrete strength. Therefore, the effect of the concrete strength on the deflection of the beams was analysed. The deflections obtained from the experiment were compared with the deflections calculated with ACI code and EC2.
The use of steel pipe dampers (SPD) as fuses or interchangeable elements in the steel moment-resisting frames (MRF) is one of the newest methods for improving seismic performance. In the present study, the performance of steel pipe dampers in MRF has been investigated. Evaluation of MRF with and without SPD models were performed using the finite element method by ABAQUS. For validation, an MRF and MRF with steel pipe dampers were modeled that had been experimentally tested and reported in previous experimental research and a good agreement was observed. The behavior of these dampers in frames of 3, 6, and 9 stories was studied by modeling the damper directly. Nonlinear time history dynamic analysis was used. It was observed that by increasing the number of stories in the buildings, steel pipe dampers should be used to perform properly against earthquakes. The installation of steel pipe dampers in steel moment-resisting frames shows that the drift ratio between the floors is reduced and the seismic performance of these frames is improved.
