  • The model reduction method of the high order linear time invariant systems is proposed. The continuous fraction expansion of Auxiliary denominator polynomial is used to obtain denominator polynomial of the reduced order model, and the numerator polynomial of the reduced order model is obtained by equating the first some moments of the original and the reduced order model, using simplified moment function. This methiod does not require the calculation of the reciprocal transformation which should be calculated in Routh approximation, furthemore the stability of the reduced order model is guaranted if original system is stable. Responses of this method showed us good characteristics.

  • This paper presents a data based low-order controller design algorithm for a linear time-invariant process with a time delay. The algorithm is composed by combining an identification step based on open loop pulse test with a low-order controller design step to obtain the entire set of controllers achieving multiple performance specifications. The initial information necessary for this algorithm are merely the width and amplitude of a rectangular pulse, a controller of four types (PI, PD, PID, first-order), and design objectives. Various parametric approaches that have been developed are merged in the controller design algorithm. The resulting controller set satisfying the design objectives are displayed on the 2D and 3D graphics and thus it is very easy for us to pick a controller inside the admissible set because we can check the corresponding closed-loop performances visually.

  • A lot of researchers have been investigating interactive portable projection systems such as a mini-projector. In addition, in exhibition halls and museums, there is a trend toward using interactive projection systems to make viewing more exciting and impressive. They can also be applied in the field of art, for example, in creating shadow plays. The key idea of the interactive portable projection systems is to recognize the user's gesture in real-time. In this paper, a vision-based shadow gesture recognition method is proposed for interactive projection systems. The gesture recognition method is based on the screen image obtained by a single web camera. The method separates only the shadow area by combining the binary image with an input image using a learning algorithm that isolates the background from the input image. The region of interest is recognized with labeling the shadow of separated regions, and then hand shadows are isolated using the defect, convex hull, and moment of each region. To distinguish hand gestures, Hu's invariant moment method is used. An optical flow algorithm is used for tracking the fingertip. Using this method, a few interactive applications are developed, which are presented in this paper.

  • This paper proposes a novel method for face detection method using Zernike moments. To detect the faces in an image, local regions in multiscale sliding windows are classified into face and non-face by a neural network, and input features of the neural network consist of Zernike moments. Feature dimension is reduced as the reconstruction capability of orthogonal moment. In addition, because the magnitude of Zernike moment is invariant to rotation, a tilted human face can be detected. Even so the detection rate of the proposed method about head on face is less than experiments using intensity features, the result of our method about rotated faces is more robust. If the additional compensation and features are utilized, the proposed scheme may be best suited for the later stage of classification.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient feature extraction and image retrieval algorithm for content-based retrieval method. First, we extract the object using Gaussian edge detector for input image which is key frames of MPEG video and extract the object features that are location feature, distributed dimension feature and invariant moments feature. Next, we extract the characteristic color feature using the proposed HAQ(Histogram Analysis md Quantization) algorithm. Finally, we implement an retrieval of four features in sequence with the proposed matching method for query image which is a shot frame except the key frames of MPEG video. The purpose of this paper is to propose the novel content-based image retrieval algerian which retrieves the key frame in the shot boundary of MPEG video belonging to the scene requested by user. The experimental results show an efficient retrieval for 836 sample images in 10 music videos using the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper describes the method for detecting vehicles in the rear and rear-side at night by using headlight features. A headlight is the outstanding feature that can be used to discriminate a vehicle from a dark background. In the segmentation process, a night image is transformed to a binary image that consists of black background and white regions by gray-level thresholding, and noise in the binary image is eliminated by a morphological operation. In the feature extraction process, the geometric features and moment invariant features of a headlight are defined, and they are measured in each segmented region. Regions that are not appropriate to a headlight are filtered by using geometric feature measurement. In region classification, a pair of headlights is detected by using relational features based on the symmetry of a pair of headlights. Experimental results show that this method is very applicable to an approaching vehicle detection system at nighttime.

  • We introduce a novel feature extraction scheme for online handwritten digit based on utilizing Zernike moment and angulation feature. The time sequential signal from mouse movement on the writing pad is described as a sequence of consecutive points on the x-y plane. So, we can create data-set which are successive and time-sequential pixel position data by preprocessing. Data preprocessed is used for Zernike moment and angulation feature extraction. this feature is scale-, translation-, and rotation-invariant. The extracted specific feature is fed to a BP(backpropagation) neural network, which in turn classifies it as one of the nine digits. In this paper, proposed method not noly show high recognition rate but also need less learning data for 200 handwritten digit data.

  • A cold & hot rolling coil production line of iron nill consists of a kind of coherent automatic process, but an automatic labelling process still had technical difficulties in the automation of its process. The reason for difficulties in building an automatic process is that quantitative data for each rolled coil from every shipping is not easy to receive from the previous process. it is not possible to apply for a general and simple purpose robot that is actually worked through a taught position to the process because the size and direction of the coi1 has differed on every shipping. From these reasons. we introduce a robot vision system to accept an expected variable situation and to ensure the stability and flexibility of the process. This paper examines a study applied for similar cases and finds the position and direction of relied coil using the moment invariant algorithm proposed by Hu. In addition. the camera calibration and position error compensation algorithm is applied by the analysis of the relationship of transition in a space coordinate system. The construction of a robot vision system proposed by this paper is a more intellectual system than that of the automatic labelling system. which is already used to the Daihen steel nill of NEW JAPAN steel mill co. Ltd in Japan, and shows a better independent operation in the field of production.

  • Recently, Biometrics-based personal identification is regarded as an effective method of person's identity with recognition automation and high performance. In this paper, the palmprint recognition method based on Hu invariant moment is proposed. And the low-resolution(750dpi) palmprint image$(5.5Cm\times5.5Cm)$ is used for the small scale database of the effectual palmprint recognition system. The proposed system is consists of two parts: firstly, the palmprint fixed equipment for the acquisition of the correctly palmprint image and secondly, the algorithm of the efficient processing for the palmprint recognition. And the palmprint identification step is limited 3 times. As a results, when the coefficient is 0.001 then FAR and GAR are $0.038\%$ and $98.1\%$ each other. The authors confirmed that FAR is improved $0.002\%$ and GAR is $0.1\%$ each other compared with [3].

  • In this paper, a method for the recognition of dynamic hand gestures in various backgrounds using Dynamic Space Time Warping(DSTW) algorithm is proposed. The existing method using DSTW algorithm compares multiple candidate hand regions detected from every frame of the query sequence with the model sequences in terms of the time. However the existing method can not exactly recognize the models because a false path can be generated from the candidates including not-hand regions such as background, elbow, and so on. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, we use the invariant moments extracted from the candidate regions of hand and compare the similarity of invariant moments among candidate regions. The similarity is utilized as a weight and the corresponding value is applied to the matching cost between the model sequence and the query sequence. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method can recognize the dynamic hand gestures in the various backgrounds. Moreover, the recognition rate has been improved by 13%, compared with the existing method.
