The optimum cure cycle and carbonization condition were selected by the DSC and TGA analysis and green bodies were prepared by the method of hot press molding and then carbonized up to 140$0^{\circ}C$. Additives such as graphite powder, carbon black, milled carbon fiber and carbon fiber mat, which were considered to be effective in improving the interlaminar shear strength, were also added to check their effects on the density and porosity of products. Then, their relations with mechanical properties such as ILSS and flexural strength were investigated. The composites added 9 vol% of graphite powder showed the greatest values of ILSS and flexural strength. Otherwise, in case of adding carbon black, the composites showed the slight improvement of ILSS at its contents of 3 vol% but the flexural strength was decreased. When milled carbon fiber and carbon fiber mat were added, the lack of resin and the heat shrinkage during the carbonization caused the delamination, resulting in decreasing the density, ILSS and flexural strength.
The noble method of hybrid agarose gel microstamp fabricated by replica molding against PDMS master to make bacteria patterns on agar surface was presented. After the fabricated hybrid agarose gel microstamp was inked with E. coli, we could obtain 2 dimensional bacterial arrays with $50{\mu}m$ circular spots. And the various shaped patterns based on experimental design were easily generated. The analysis of mean fluorescent signal was showed that bacterial pattern have high contrast between spots and background and homogeneity of pattern. Our proposed method solved the problem of wetting and handling with small soft agarose gel microstamp when bacteria were used for ink. The agarose gel stamp provides appropriate environment to inked bacteria, which is essential technology for cell patterning with high retaining viability during the patterning process. This method is reproducible, convenient, rapid, and could be applied to screening system, study of cell-surface interaction, and microbial ecology.
In the vacuum assisted RTM (VARTM) process that has become the center of attention for manufacturing massive composite structures, a good evacuation of air in the fiber preform is recognized as the prime factor. The microvoids, or the dry spots, are formed as a result of improper gate/vent locations and the mold geometry. The non-uniform resin velocity at the flow front leads to the formation of microvoids in the fibers, whereas the air in the microvoids can migrate along with the resin flow during mold filling. The residual air in the internal voids of a composite structure may cause a degradation of the mechanical properties as well as the structural failure. In this study, a unified macro- and micro analysis methods were developed to investigate the formation and transport of air in resin during VARTM process. A numerical simulation program was developed to analyze the three-dimensional flow pattern as well as the macro- and microscopic distribution of air in a composite part fabricated by VARTM process.

The purpose of this study is to set up the theoretical foundation for neon colors by recognizing them as important elements of sensitive design and by comprehending their existence as a color fashion responsive to psychological and social background. As the subject of the present the researcher has selected important oversea collections of these five years during which neon colors have fully emerged as popular colors of fashion. The procedure of research was to examine the concept and traits of colors and investigate the utility of neon colors in various fields. The important facts which are acquired from the present study are as follows. First, the analysis of frequency has found out the following color arrangements: neon color only-8.6%(35), neon color+colorless-58.3%(236), neon color+ colored -14.8%(60),neon color+colorless+colored-18.3%(74), and others. The case of neon color used as monochromatic (color) was distinguished into two: single neon color all through and the same color used differently. Color arrangements were divided into analogous arrangement, separation arrangement, dominant arrangement, multi-color arrangement, and accent arrangement. Second, the internal significance of neon colors expressed in fashion can be interpreted into three: emphasis, optical Illusion, and amusing. This study has attempted to raised up the aesthetic value of various color expression and to expand fashion image by interpreting the trends of color fashion together with the traits and aesthetic meaning of color in fashion. The future study intends to expand the expression area of fashion design and to interpret molding beauty through the image of color arrangement and through fashion style utilizing neon colors.

LCD-BLU (Liquid Crystal Display - Back Light Unit) is one of kernel parts of LCD unit and it consists of several optical sheets(such as prism, diffuser and protector sheets), LCP (Light Guide Plate), light source (CCFL or LED) and mold frame. The LGP of LCD-BLU is usually manufactured by forming numerous dots with $50{\sim}200{\mu}m$ in diameter on it by erosion method. But the surface of the erosion dots of LGP is very rough due to the characteristics of the erosion process during the mold fabrication, so that its light loss is high along with the dispersion of light into the surface. Accordingly, there is a limit in raising the luminance of LCD-BLU. In order to overcome the limit of current dot patterned LGP, optical pattern design with $50{\mu}m$ micro-lens was applied in the present study. Especially, the negative and positive micro-lens pattern fabricated by modified LiGA with thermal reflow process was applied to the optical design of LGP. The attention was paid to the effects of different pattern conditions to the brightness distribution of BLU with micro-lens patterned LGP. Finally, negative micro-lens patterned LGP showed superior results to the one made by positive in average luminance.

The upper and lower lateral cartilages provide the key to the lower cartilaginous portion of the nose. Lifting the cartilages is essential procedure for correction of unilateral cleft lip nose deformity. After correction of cleft lip nose deformity, authors used acoustic rhinometry (AR) to compare the lower nasal cavity of cleft side with non-cleft side. AR is a well known new, non-invasive diagnostic technique in which nasal geometry is assessed by means of acoustic reflection. From June 1996 to January 2004, we performed acoustic rhinometric analysis after correction of unilateral cleft lip nose deformity. This study involved 40 children of age ranged from 3 months to 8 years. Subjects were divided into the group of incomplete unilateral cleft lip nose deformity(20 subjects), and the group of complete unilateral cleft lip nose deformity(20 subjects). Results show that lower nasal cavity volume between non-cleft side and cleft side has no difference, and better results were obtained when nasal molding prong was applied at cleft side nostril. The results between incomplete type and complete type have no significant difference. In conclusion, AR is an effective method to calibrate cross sectional area and nasal cavity volume of unilateral cleft lip nose deformity, and furthermore effective in comparing the volume of cleft side with non-cleft side after unilateral cleft lip nose deformity correction with lifting the lower lateral cartilages to the upper lateral cartilages.
Biodegradable polymeric blends are expected to be widely used by industry due to their environmental friendliness and comparable mechanical and thermal properties. Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) are such biodegradable polymers which aim to replace commodity polymers in future applications. Since cost and brittleness of PLA is quite high, it is not economically feasible to use it alone for day to day use as a packaging material without blending. In this study, blends of PLA and PBS with various compositions were prepared by using a laboratory-scale twin-screw extruder at $180^{\circ}C$. Morphological, thermal, rheological and mechanical properties were investigated on the samples obtained by compression molding to explore suitability of these compositions for packaging applications. Morphology of the blends was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Morphology showed a clear phase difference trend depending on blend composition. Modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC) thermograms of the blends indicated that the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of PLA did not change much with the addition of PBS, but analysis showed that for PLA/PBS blend of up to 80/20 composition there is partial miscibility between the two polymers. The tensile strength and modulus were measured by the Instron Universal Testing Machine. Tensile strength, modulus and percentage (%) elongation at break of the blends decreased with PBS content. However, tensile strength and modulus values of PLA/PBS blend for up to 80/20 composition nearly follow the mixing rule. Rheological results also show miscibility between the two polymers for PBS composition less than 20% by weight. PBS reduced the brittleness of PLA, thus making it a contender to replace plastics for packaging applications. This work found a partial miscibility between PBS and PLA by investigating thermal, mechanical and morphological properties.

With large specific strength and outstanding corrosion resistance and erosion resistance in sea water, titanium and titanium alloy are widely used in heat exchanger production. In particular, pure titanium demonstrates outstanding molding performance and may be considered optimal for production of heat exchanger. Since titanium is very vulnerable to oxidation and embrittlement during welding, processes with less heat input are widely used, and laser welding is widely applied by considering production performance and shield etc in atmosphere. So far, 1st report and 2nd report compared and analyzed embrittlement degrees by bead colors of weldment through oxygen and nitrogen quantitative analysis and hardness measurement, and evaluated welding performance and mechanical properties of butt welding. This study evaluated field applicability of lap welding to heat exchange plate of LPG re-liquefaction device for ships through tensile stress test, hardness test and internal pressure test etc after deducing optimal weding condition and applying to actual heat exchange plate. In bead overlap area, the experiment produced sound welds with no porosity or defect by increasing and decreasing laser power, and tensile-shear test results indicated virtually the same tension and yield strength as base metal. As a result of measuring hardness at lateral cross section and bead overlap zone of actual heat exchanger welds, hardness difference within 20Hv was produced at base metal, HAZ and weldment, and as a result of pneumatic and hydraulic pressure test, no leakage occurred.

Using the MPI (Moldflow Plastics Insight) software from Moldflow Co., the optimum conditions for producing the upper part of the automobile air cleaner were obtained for 20% talc filled polypropylene (PP). The analysis was carried out to solve the cracking problem between upper and lower parts and the improved process was proposed using the flow balance. The comparative results between the conventional process, CASE-1, with one-pin gate and the new process (CASE-2) comprising two-pin gate system are the followings. In the case of CASE-2, the shorter filling time and reduced cycle time induced an improved production and processibility. In addition, the orientation and volumetric shrinkage are similar to those observed in the lower part, but the assembly, deformation, and physical characteristics are enhanced. The problem induced by the CASE-1 did not originate from the residual stress, but from the difference in the size of the upper part air cleaner after shrinkage. Thus, the orientation problem was expected to improve by optimizing the gate structure.
The changes in the rheological properties of soybean curd upon the processing conditions were measured by the failure test, and analyzed by the stress-relaxation data. Soybean curd coagulated with $CaCl_2$ showed a higher failure stress value than other coagulants such as $MgCl_2,\;CaSO_4\;and\;Glucono-{\delta}-lactone$ (GDL), whereas addition of 0.3% $CaCl_2$ produced higher failure stress value than other concentrations $0.2{\sim}0.6%)$. Also, maximum failure stress of soybean curd was shown at the higher heating temperatures$(95^{\circ}C)$ and greater molding pressures, respectively. Initial and equilibrium stress at the stress relaxation curves showed the same tendency as those of failure test, and magnitude of elastic elements$(E_0,\;E_e)$ and viscous element$({\eta})$ were numerically expressed through simple Maxwell model analysis.
