  • In this article, the vibration behavior of embedded Functionally Graded Nanoplate (FGNP) employing nonlocal Kirchhoff's plate theory has been investigated under hygrothermal environment. The FGNP is considered to be supported by Winkler-Pasternak foundation. The Eringen's differential theory is used for size effect on the vibration of the FGNP. Rayleigh-Ritz method with orthogonal polynomials are employed for the governing equations and edge constraints. The advantage of this method is that it overcomes all the drawbacks of edge constraints and can easily handle any combinations of mixed edge constraints. The coefficients viz. moisture expansion, thermal expansion and elastic coefficients are considered to be transversely graded across the FGNP. The similarity of the calculated natural frequencies is examined with the previous research, and a good concurrency is seen. The objective of this article is to analyze the parameters' effect on the nondimensionalized frequency of embedded FGNP under hygrothermal environment subjected to all possible edge constraints. For this, uniform and linear rise of temperature and moisture concentration are considered. The study highlights that the nonlocal effect is pronounced for higher modes. Moreover, the effect of the Pasternak modulus is seen to be prominent compared to the Winkler modulus on non dimensionalized frequencies of FGNP.

  • In this paper, magneto-thermo-elastic problem of a thick truncated conical shell immersed in a uniform magnetic field and subjected to internal pressure is investigated. Material properties of the shell including the elastic modulus, magnetic permeability, coefficients of thermal expansion and conduction are assumed to be isotropic and graded through the thickness obeying the simple power law distribution, while the poison's ratio is assumed to be constant. The temperature distribution is assumed to be a function of the thickness direction. Governing equations of the truncated conical shell are derived in terms of components of displacement and thermal fields and discretised with the help of differential quadrature (DQ) method. Results are obtained for different values of power law index of material properties and effects of thermal load on displacement, stress, temperature and magnetic fields are studied. Results of the present method are compared with those of the finite element method.

  • Particles reinforced MMCs have higher specific modulus, higher specific strength, better properties at elevated temperatures and better wear resistance than monolithic metals. But the coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) of Al6061 is 5 times larger than that of SiCp. The discrepancy of CTE makes some residual stresses inside of MMCs. This work investigates Si$C_p$/Al6061 composites at high temperatures in the microscopic view by three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element analyses and compares the analytical results with the experimental ones. The theoretical model is not able to consider the nonuniform shape of particle. So the shape of particle is assumed to be perfect global shape. And also particle distribution is not homogeneous in experimental specimen. It is assumed to be homogeneous in simulation model. The type of particle distribution is face-centered cubic array(FCC array). Furthermore, non-homogeneous distribution is modeled by combination of several volume fractions.

  • Nanocrystalline materials, with a grain size of typically <100 nm, are a new class of materials with properties vastly different from and often superior to those of the conventional coarse-grained materials. These materials can be synthesized by a number of different techniques and the grain size, morphology, and composition can be controlled by controlling the process parameters. In comparison to the coarse-grained materials, nanocrystalline materials show higher strength and hardness, enhanced diffusivity, improved ductility/toughness, reduced, density, reduced elastic modulus, higher electrical resistivity, increased specific heat, higher coefficient of thermal expansion, lower thermal conductivity, and superior soft and hard magnetic properties. Limited quantities of these materials are presently produced and marketed in the US, Canada, and elsewhere. Applications for these materials are being actively explored. The present article discusses the synthesis, structure, thermal stability, properties, and potential application of nanocrystalline materials.

  • The effect of siloxane oligomer content on thermal stability and internal stress of DGEBA epoxy resin was investigated. Siloxane-epoxy polymers having terminal epoxy group were prepared by reaction of siloxane-DDM prepolymer with DGEBA epoxy resin. Thermal stability was studied in terms of the initial decomposition temperature(IDT), temperature of maximum rate of weight loss($T_{max}$), integral procedural decomposition temperature(IPDT), and decomposition activation energy($E_t$) using TGA data. The thermal stability increased with increasing the siloxane oligomer content and showed a maximum value in the case of 5 wt% siloxane oligomer content in the blend system. While, the coefficient of thermal expansion(${\alpha}_r$) and the flexural modulus($E_r$) allowed us to study internal stress of the blend system. As the content of siloxane oligomer increases, the internal stress systematically decreases as decreasing both ${\alpha}_r$ and $E_r$.

  • The synthesis of glass-ceramic materials from glasses based on industrial wastes or natural rocks their physical properties were studied. Glasses of composition, CaO14.7∼16.1, MgO7.4∼9.0, Al2O38.3∼19.3, SiO2 48.9∼51.0wt% were prepared from domestic blast furnace slag, serpentine, sea sand and etc. with additions of chromic oxide, and fluoride as nucleating agent. The glasses were subjected to controlled heat treatments and yielded fine microstructure of glass-ceramics which were composed of monocrystalline phase of aluminous diopside. X-ray diffraction techniques were adopted to identify the crystalline phases and to determine the degree of crystallization quantitatively. Density, coefficient of thermal expansion, young's modulus, microhardness and modulus of rupture were measured and the resulting properties were discussed in terms of the heat-treatment conditions, the degree of crystallization, species of crystaline phase, the microstructures formed in glass-cramics and the chemical compositions of mother glasses.

  • Poly(p-phenylene pyromellitimide) and poly(4,4'-biphenylene pyromellitimide) are representatives of fully rod-like polyimides. Their structure and properties in thin films are reviewed. The polymers exhibit some excellent properties such as high molecular packing coefficient, high mechanical modulus, and low thermal expansion coefficient, and low interfacial stress, so that they are very attractive to both industry and academia. However, these polymers are very brittle and thus practically useless. Some chemical modifications to improve such drawback with a little sacrifice of the high modulus are described: i) incorporation of short side groups into the polymer backbone and ii) insertion of proper linkages into the polymer backbone.

  • Techniques and procedures are presented for measuring mechanical properties on thin-film Polysilicon. Narrow platinum lines are deposited 250 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ apart on tensile specimens that are 3.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thick and 600 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ wide. Load is applied by a piezo-actuator and by hanging weights. Strain is measured by an ISDC at temperatures up to 500 $^{\circ}C$. Measurements of the elastic modulus with jig modifications, loading speed and temperature change are presented first. And then, the preliminary data for the coefficient of thermal expansion and creep behavior are presented as a reference.

  • Like composite material. the coil winding pack of the KSTAR (Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) consist of multiphase element such as metallic jacket material for protecting superconducting cable, vacuum pressurized imprepregnated (VPI) insulation, and corner roving filler. For jacket material, four CS (Central Solenoid) Coils, $5^{th}$ PF (Poloidal Field) Coil, and TF (Toroidal Field Coil) use Incoloy 908 and $6-7^{th}$ PF coil, Cold worked 316LN. In order to analyze the global behavior of large coil support structure with coil winding pack, it is required to replace the winding pack to monolithic matter with the equivalent mechanical properties, i.e. Young's moduli, shear moduli due to constraint of total nodes number and element numbers. In this study, Equivalent Young's moduli, shear moduli, Poisson's ratio, and thermal expansion coefficient were calculated for all coil winding pack using Finite Element Method.

  • Recently, the risk of fire outbreak is going up because of newly developed combustible materials are intended to apply more. Especially the steel framed structure can lose its load-bearing capacity when it is exposed to higher temperature condition such as a fire. So the pre-evaluation of fire resistance of the structure is very essential that the mechanical properties of yield strength and elastic modulus and thermal properties such as conductivity and linear expansion be required. To get the databases for SM 400 or welding structural steels at high temperature, various temperature conditions were used for deriving the yield strength, elastic modulus, linear expansion, and conductivity and the results were compared to those of SS 400, ordinary structural steel, respectively.
