Development of the Local Area Design Module for Planning Automated Excavator Work at Operation Level (자동화 굴삭로봇의 운용단위 작업계획수립을 위한 로컬영역설계모듈 개발)

  • Today, a shortage of the skilled operator has been intensified gradually and the necessity of an earthwork in extreme environment operators are difficult to access is increasing for the purpose of resource development and new living space creation. For this reason, an effort to develop an unmanned excavation robot for fully automated earthwork system is continuing globally. In Korea, a research consortium called 'Intelligent Excavation System' has been formed since 2006 as a part of Construction Technology Innovation Program of Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs of Korea. Among detailed technologies of the Task Planning System is one of the core technologies of IES, this paper explains research and development process of the Local Area Design Module, which provides informatization unit to create automated excavators' work command information at operation level such as location, range, target, and sequence for excavation work. Designing of Local Area should be considered various influential factors such as excavator's specification, working mechanism, heuristics, and structural stability to create work plan guaranteed safety and effectiveness. For this research, conceptual and detail design of the Local Area is performed for analyzing design element and variable, and quantization method of design specification corresponding with heuristics and structural safety is generated. Finally, module is developed through constructed algorithm and developed module is verified.

A collaborative simulation in shipbuilding and the offshore installation based on the integration of the dynamic analysis, virtual reality, and control devices

  • It is difficult to observe the potential risks of lifting or turn-over operations in the early stages before a real operation. Therefore, many dynamic simulations have been designed to predict the risks and to reduce the possibility of accidents. These simulations, however, have usually been performed for predetermined and fixed scenarios, so they do not reflect the real-time control of an operator that is one of the most important influential factors in an operation; additionally, lifting or turn-over operations should be a collaboration involving more than two operators. Therefore, this study presents an integrated method for a collaborative simulation that allows multiple workers to operate together in the virtual world. The proposed method is composed of four components. The first component is a dynamic analysis that is based on multibody-system dynamics. The second component is VR (virtual reality) for the generation of realistic views for the operators. The third component comprises the control devices and the scenario generator to handle the crane in the virtual environment. Lastly, the fourth component is the HLA (high-level architecture)-based integrated simulation interface for the convenient and efficient exchange of the data through the middleware. To show the applicability of the proposed method, it has been applied to a block turn-over simulation for which one floating crane and two crawler cranes were used, and an offshore module installation for which a DCR (dual-crane rig) was used. In conclusion, the execution of the proposed method of this study is successful regarding the above two applications for which multiple workers were involved.

  • By supporting wireless communication technology, there is gradually expansion of the commercial application for Wireless Local Loop(WLL) technology, which is to replace existing telephone line with wireless one. The WLL system application helps a operator to have merits of the installation and maintenance of line and also a subscriber to make a high speed value-added service. As mentioned above reasons for both sides, many manufactories and operators are concerned with development and application respectively. This paper presents hardware implementation of Radio Port Controller(RPC) and also describes the system configuration, functions, and Inter Processor Communication(IPC) structure of RPC. We performed inter-module communication test via IPC backplane bus. And inter-module integration test also completed through data communication and signal waveform measurement repeatedly.

  • Many object query languages including OQL(the query language proposed by theOBMG) allow query block to be nested in any clause: select clause, from clause and where clause. The processing of nested queries can affect the performance of its query processor Therefore, an OQL query processor should have effective optimizing techniques for nested queries. This paper designs and implements a new framework of an unnesting front-end for an OQL query processor This unnesting module can minimize implementation overhead when developing a new OQL processor or extending an existing query processor to be equipped with an unnesting facility This is accomplished by separation between logical algebra operators used in an unnesting front-end and ones in a query optimizer.

A Study on the i-YOLOX Architecture for Multiple Object Detection and Classification of Household Waste (생활 폐기물 다중 객체 검출과 분류를 위한 i-YOLOX 구조에 관한 연구)

  • In addressing the prominent issues of climate change, resource scarcity, and environmental pollution associated with household waste, extensive research has been conducted on intelligent waste classification methods. These efforts range from traditional classification algorithms to machine learning and neural networks. However, challenges persist in effectively classifying waste in diverse environments and conditions due to insufficient datasets, increased complexity in neural network architectures, and performance limitations for real-world applications. Therefore, this paper proposes i-YOLOX as a solution for rapid classification and improved accuracy. The proposed model is evaluated based on network parameters, detection speed, and accuracy. To achieve this, a dataset comprising 10,000 samples of household waste, spanning 17 waste categories, is created. The i-YOLOX architecture is constructed by introducing the Involution channel convolution operator and the Convolution Branch Attention Module (CBAM) into the YOLOX structure. A comparative analysis is conducted with the performance of the existing YOLO architecture. Experimental results demonstrate that i-YOLOX enhances the detection speed and accuracy of waste objects in complex scenes compared to conventional neural networks. This confirms the effectiveness of the proposed i-YOLOX architecture in the detection and classification of multiple household waste objects.

  • To improve the productivity of manufacturing company, the analysis of loss in shop floor has to be conducted and validated. This paper introduces the downtime tracking module using the pre-developed shop floor information acquisition system. To collect the downtime, it utilized shop floor monitoring information, user-registered downtime event, equipment diagnosis algorithm and operator's input. Also, it provided the user interface for the analysis of downtime. From the results of a pilot study, the usability of developed system was validated.

  • Recently, power system is getting larger and more complex. When the complex power system has a problem, it is very difficult even for the experts to find out where the problem is and to make a timely decision by operators. There have been many studies on these problems but the results are not good enough for applying to real power system. Therefore, power system operators always had to judge the exact state of power system and be preparative for the problems that can occur later. We developed new methods that can be applied to complex power system by dividing the system into small modules. By using 'module', we can combine small modules together to make complex power systems and the knowledge base that is applied to fault diagnosis system. As a result, compared to previously developed diagnosis products, operation time is shortened and the knowledge base is become simpler and clearer, which made online usage capable. This system can be used as a complementary measurement that helps the operator from making any mistakes.

  • With the growing deployment of network and internet, the importance of security is also increased. But, recent intrusion detection systems which have an important position in security countermeasure can't provide proper analysis and effective defence mechanism. Instead, they have overwhelmed human operator by large volume of intrusion detection alerts. In this paper, we propose an efficient alert analysis system that can produce high level information by analyzing and processing the large volume of alerts and can detect large-scale attacks such as DDoS in early stage. And we have measured processing rate of each elementary module and carried out a scenario-based test in order to analyzing efficiency of our proposed system.

  • In this study, the vibration-based tactile actuator for smart wear applications is presented by using piezoelectric ceramic transducers. The compact wireless actuation system is constructed with a high voltage piezoelectric amplifier, a microcontroller, wireless communication module, and rechargeable lithium-polymer battery. For the wireless communication between a hardware and an operator, the bluetooth-based wireless communication system is prepared and the user interface is provided via smart phone applications. From a series of experimental user studies, it is demonstrated that the proposed vibro-tactile actuator based on piezoelectric ceramic transducers can be effectively applied to smart wear applications.

  • Recently, the ratio of marine casualty has been marked about 72% in fishing boat and small ships which not less than 100 tons in Korea. It is mainly against navigation regulations such as look-out, selecting the ship's course and checking the ship's position according to the analysis of marine accident. In this paper, we proposes the Intelligent Navigation Guiding System(INGS) that provides an optimum route for an operator of small ships. INGS consists of program for route planning, interface module and GPS Plotter. we obtained optimum route from specific position to established route by INGS.
