Modern warfare exhibit a NCW (Network Centric Warfare) aspect through quick situation awareness and Command and Control. And Tactical messages operate on various tactical data links (TDLs). For monitoring TDL messages processed by data link processor(DLP), message analysers are generally developed as a component during system development. In addition, in order to forward TDL messages processed by DLP to the message anayzer, the interface messages between DLP and message analysers should be defined interface control document(ICD). We propose the methods using UDP or TCP packets provided by TDL layers that are delivered to DLP without communicating directly with DLP. Depending on TDL message standards and Interface Control Documents(ICDs), we design the message analyzer which communicates with data link processor using internal messages. Using known header field information from the TDL application standard such as JREAP-C, we can quickly filter candidate packets against collected packets and use the full data size information contained in the headers to verify the completed message. Because the methods proposed in this paper do not communicate directly with DLP, the methods proposed in this paper are enable to analyze the TDL application messages such as JREAP-C or Link-K without constraints in existing methods that should be reflected in the system configuration and ICD.

In this paper, a novel resource scheduling, which is used for hub network based long distance airborne tactical communication, is proposed. Recently, some countries of the world has concentrated on developing data rate and networking performance of CDL, striving to keep pace with modern warfare, which is changed into NCW. And our government has also developed the next generation high capacity CDL. In hub network, a typical communication structure of CDL, hybrid FDMA/TDMA can be considered to exchange high rate data among multiple UAVs simultaneously, within limited bandwidth. However, due to different RTT and traffic size of UAV, idle time resource and unnecessary packet transmission delay can occur. And these losses can reduce entire efficiency of hub network in long distance communication. Therefore, in this paper, we propose RTT and data traffic size based UAV scheduling, which selects time/frequency resource of UAVs by using iterative sorting algorithm. The simulation results verified that the proposed scheme improves data rate and packet delay performance in low complexity.

In modern electronic warfare systems, the necessity of a more accurate estimation method based on non-AOA (arrival of angle) measurement, such as TDOA and FDOA, have been increased. The previous researches using single TDOA have been carried out in terms of not only the development of emitter location algorithms but also the enhancement of measurement accuracy. Recently, however, the combined TDOA/FDOA method is of considerable interest because it is able to estimate the velocity vector of a moving emitter and acquire a pair of TDOA and FDOA measurements from a single sensor pair. In this circumstance, it is needed to derive the required FDOA measurement accuracy in order that the TDOA/FDOA combined localization system outperforms the previous single TDOA localization systems. Therefore, we analyze the contribution of FDOA measurement accuracy to emitter location, then propose the criterion based on CRLB (Cramer-Rao lower bound). Simulations are included to examine the validity of the proposed criterion by using the Gauss-Newton algorithm.

In modern electronic warfare systems, a demand on the more accurate estimation method based on TDOA and FDOA has been increased. TDOA/FDOA localization consists of two-stage procedures; the extraction of information from signals, and the estimation of emitter location. CAF(complex ambiguity function) is known as a basic method in the extraction stage. However, when we extract TDOA and FDOA information from VHF(very high frequency) communication signals, conventional CAF algorithms may not work within a permitted time because of much computation. Therefore, in this paper, an improved sequential estimation algorithm based on CAF is proposed for effective calculation of extracting TDOA and FDOA estimates in terms of computational complexity. The proposed method is compared with the conventional CAF-based algorithms through simulation. In addition, we derive the optimal performance based on the CRLB(Cramer-Lao lower bound) to check the extraction performance of the proposed method.

In modern electronic warfare systems, a demand on the more accurate estimation method based on TDOA and FDOA has been increased. TDOA/FDOA localization consists of two-stage procedures: the extraction of information from signals and the estimation of emitter location. Various algorithms based on CAF(complex ambiguity function), which is known as a basic method, has been presented in the area of extractions. When we extract TDOA and FDOA information using a conventional method based on the CAF algorithm from communication signals, considerably long integration time is required for the accurate position estimation of an unknown emitter far from sensors more than 300 km. Such long integration time yields huge amount of transmission data from sensors to a central processing unit, resulting in heavy computiational complexity. Therefore, we theoretically analyze the integration time for TDOA/FDOA information using CRLB and propose a two-stage global optimization algorithm which can minimize the transmission time and a computational complexity. The proposed method is compared with the conventional CAF-based algorithms in terms of a computational complexity and the CRLB to verify the estimation performance.
While reserve forces play a critical role in modern warfare, the primary focus on reserve forces has been on men. Women's reserve forces have received little attention. The purpose of this study is to examine the need to increase the number of women in the reserve and the impact of increasing the number of women on active duty. The reasons for the need for women in the military are the decrease in the resources of the reserve force as well as the regular force due to the decrease in population, the development of fields where women can perform missions with advantages due to the changing patterns of warfare, and the changing situation of gender equality and the increasing role of women in society. However, it is currently optional, not mandatory, for female veterans to join the Reserve. The number of cadres entering the reserve may decrease as the number of active-duty women increases. Using a 2018 estimate of 13.9 percent of women transitioning to the Reserve, 194 of the 1,402 projected transitioning women in '27 will transition to the Reserve. This leaves an estimated shortfall of 1,208 reserve officers and NCO. This suggests that the policy of increasing the number of women on active duty could have a significant impact on the reserve force in the future, and further policy research is needed.
The key lessons of the very complex modern war can be dangerously misleading to the outsiders. The efforts trying to draw lessons learned from the Iraq War (OIF : Operation Iraqi Freedom) may be biased by the view of point by Americans, because most of war episodes have been come from the Western media coverage. More serious bias can be committed thanks to the differences of warfighting doctrines and military technology between US forces and ROK forces. However, OIF-fought allied commanders and outside military experts said this campaign exemplified 21st-century warfare: swift, agile and decisive, employing overpowering technology to bring relentless violence to bear in many places at once. Even though the campaign evolved differently than anticipated, allied forces regrouped and regained the initiative remarkably quickly, thanks in large part to a new command flexibility, tied to new technology that made possible the more rapid sharing of data. These factors permitted "new air-land dynamic". The things that compel that are good sensors networked with good intelligence disseminated through a robust networking system, which then yields speed. Speed turns out to be a very important factor for conducting "Rapid Decisive Operations" relied on joint "Mass of Effects". ROK forces facing the heaviest ground threat in the world may learn more from Cold War era-typed US Army 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), which operating considerably beyond existing doctrine. 3ID flew its personnel into Kuwait to meet up with equipment already located in the region as pre-positioned stock. During OIF, the division conducted continuous offensive operations over 230km deep battlespace for 21 days. The lessons learned for ROK army to prepare tomorrow's war may be found from 3ID in its training, command and control, task organization, firepower and battlespace management, and logistics.

In modern warfare, the main factor of triumph is superior situation awareness which leads rapid command decision and precisely guided munition, and TDL(Tactical Data Link) is the main communicational enabler. ROK forces currently operate Link-16 with allied forces and are also developing Korean national data link, Link-K which is also planned to be cooperated with Link-16. Assigning participant and track numbers needs agreement between ROK and allied forces, but ROK forces have exclusive authority in assigning numbers in Link-K. This paper proposes the effective method of exchange participant and track numbers between Link-16 and Link-K, and applicability verification in operational test and evaluation will be also presented.

In modern electronic warfare, a variety of devices are being operated in the fields for the purposes of communication and surveillance. Therefore, if such devices work in the same band, interference may occur and affect each other. Regarding L-band in which various devices including radar systems are operating, interference from existing devices may affect new ones in the band. In this paper, we estimate a probability distribution of the interference environment in L-band from the selected measurement data, which is fundamental for the mathematical analysis. After selecting the candidates of probability distribution, we suggest the best one from the group. The results of this study are expected to be utilized as fundamental data for the mathematical approach to the L-band interference environment.

In modern warfare, the importance of SEAD(Suppression of Enemy Air Defense) mission is being emphasized. However, this mission runs the risk of hull damage or casualties of our friendly air forces. Because of these risks, research on the way of minimizing damages and enhancing mission capability is under active discussion. As a part of this research, SEAD mission planning with multiple UAVs has been covered using vector field guidance. This guidance method not only applies to various forms of flight path but also requires less computational power than other guidance methods. Therefore, in this paper, planning methods of SEAD mission for multiple UAVs using vector field guidance and experimental data from flight experiments regarding designed mission has been covered.
