초등 예비교사의 자기 모델 탐구 과정과 과학적 모델에 대한 이해 변화 (Pre-service Elementary Teachers' Inquiry on a Model of Magnetism and Changes in Their Views of Scientific Models)

  • An alternative vision for science inquiry that appears to be important and challenging is model-based inquiry in which students generate, evaluate and revise their explanatory model. Pre-service teachers should be given opportunities to develop and use their mechanistic explanatory models in order to participate in the practice of science and to have a sound understanding of science. With this view, this study described a case of pre-service elementary teachers' scientific modeling in magnetism. The aims of this study were to explore difficulties preservice elementary teachers encountered while they engaged in a model-based inquiry, and to examine how their understandings of the nature of scientific models changed after the model-based inquiry. The data analysis revealed that the pre-service teachers had difficulties in drawing and writing their own thinking because they had little experience of expressing their own science ideas. When asked to predict what would happen, they could not understand what it meant to make a prediction "based on their model". They did not know how to use or consider their model in making a prediction. At the end of the model-based inquiry they reached a final consensus of a best model. However, they were very anxious about whether the model was the "correct" answer. With respect to the nature of scientific models, almost all of the pre-service teachers initially viewed models only as a communication tool among scientists or students and teachers to help understand others' ideas. After the model-based inquiry, however, many of them understood that they could create, test, and revise their "own" models "by themselves". They also realized the key aspects of scientific models that a model can be changed as evidence is accumulated and a model is a knowledge production tool as well as a communication tool. The results indicated that pre-service elementary teachers' understandings of the nature of scientific models and their previous school science experiences could affect their performance on a model-based inquiry, and their experience of scientific modeling could help them enhance their understandings of the nature of scientific models.

총체적 선체현장의 실험모델 (Empirical model of over-all ship's magnetism)

  • In order to provide a basic information to locate the sensor of remote-indicating magnetic compass onboard, an empirical model for the over-all ship's magnetism was developed based on the periodicity of the observed magnetic field around the vessels. The values of model parameters were determined by least-square method and optimum numbers of them were fixed using Akaike's information criterion theory, and also an approximation method to determine parameter was proposed based on the symmetrical characteristic of observed data versus ship's length. The confidence level of the newly developed models was tested by analysis of variance method. The agreement between the modelled and real values was found to be remarkably accurate.

Spin and Pseudo Spins in Theoretical Chemistry. A Unified View for Superposed and Entangled Quantum Systems

  • A unified picture for magnetism, superconductivity, quantum optics and other properties of molecule-based materials has been presented on the basis of effective model Hamiltonians, where necessary parameter values have been determined by the first principle calculations of cluster models and/or band models. These properties of the matetials are qualitatively discussed on the basis of the spin and pseudo-spin Hamiltonian models, where several quantum operators are expressed by spin variables under the two level approximation. As an example, ab initio broken-symmetry DFT calculations are performed for cyclic magnetic ring constructed of 34 hydrogen atoms in order to obtain effective exchange integrals in the spin Hamiltonian model. The natural orbital analysis of the DFT solution was performed to obtain symmetry-adapted molecular orbitals and their occupation numbers. Several chemical indices such as information entropy and unpaired electron density were calculated on the basis of the occupation numbers to elucidate the spin and pair correlations, and bonding characteristic (kinetic correlation) of this mesoscopic magnetic ring. Both classical and quantum effects for spin alignments and singlet spin-pair formations are discussed on the basis of the true spin Hamiltonian model in detail. Quantum effects are also discussed in the case of superconductivity, atom optics and quantum optics based on the pseudo spin Hamiltonian models. The coherent and squeezed states of spins, atoms and quantum field are discussed to obtain a unified picture for correlation, coherence and decoherence in future materials. Implications of theoretical results are examined in relation to recent experiments on molecule-based materials and molecular design of future molecular soft materials in the intersection area between molecular and biomolecular materials.

Ag@Fe3O4 코어-쉘 나노입자의 광학적 특성 (Optical Properties of Ag@Fe3O4 Core-Shell Nanoparticles)

  • 본 논문에서는 플라즈모닉 코어와 자성 쉘로 구성된 $Ag@Fe_3O_4$ 나노입자의 흥미로운 광학적 특성에 대해 연구를 하였다. 기존의 60 nm의 지름을 갖는 은 나노입자의 표면에 높은 굴절률을 갖는 $Fe_3O_4$ 쉘이 형성됨에 따라 국소 표면 플라즈몬 공명(Localized surface plasmon resonance; LSPR) 파장이 420 nm에서 650 nm로 이동하는 red-shift 현상을 관찰 할 수 있었고, 또한, 세 가지 시뮬레이션 모델들 ($Ag@Fe_3O_4$ 나노입자, $Fe_3O_4$ 쉘 나노입자, 은 나노입자)을 통해서 410 nm 파장의 peak이 60 nm의 두께를 가진 $Fe_3O_4$ 쉘에 의해 발생하는 산란이 주된 원인이라는 것을 규명하였다. 이 결과는 비슷한 종류의 나노입자를 이용한 추후 다양하고 복잡한 나노어셈블리의 광학적 현상을 이해하는데 사용될 것이다.

원형 막대자석이 강자성 물체에 작용하는 자기력에 대한 정량적 접근 (Quantitative Approach to the Magnetic Force of a Cylindrical Permanent Magnet Acting on a Ferromagnetic Object)

  • 원형 막대자석이 강자성 원형 막대 물체에 작용하는 자기력에 대한 정량적인 표현이 자기화 이론, 자기에 대한 Gilbert 모형, Ampere 모형을 바탕으로 유도되었다. 이 연구에서 유도된 자기력은 원형 막대자석의 잔류 자기화 자기장과 단면적, 강자성 원형 막대 물체의 포화자기장과 단면적에 비례하며, 그리고 이들 사이의 거리에 관계되는 양의 제곱에 반비례한다. 반지름 0.4 cm이고 길이 7 cm인 알니코V 원형 막대자석과 페라이트 원형 막대자석이 반지름 이상 거리에 있는 강자성 물체에 작용하는 자기력은 각각 3.6711 N과 0.1857 N 이하로 계산되었다.
