The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is to determine a set of feasible vehicle routes, one for each vehicle, such that each customer is visited exactly once and the total distance travelled by the vehicles is minimized. A feasible route is defined as a simple circuit including the depot such that the total demand of the customers in the route does not exceed the vehicle capacity. While there have been significant advances recently in exact solution methodology, the VRP is not a well solved problem. We find most approaches still relying on the branch and bound method. These approaches employ various methodologies to compute a lower bound on the optimal value. We introduce a new modelling approach, termed route-splitting, for the VRP that allows us to address problems whose size is beyond the current computational range of set-partitioning models. The route-splitting model splits each vehicle route into segments, and results in more tractable subproblems. Lifting much of the burden of solving combinatorially hard subproblems, the route-splitting approach puts more weight on the LP master problem, Recent breakthroughs in solving LP problems (Nemhauser, 1994) bode well for our approach. Lower bounds are computed on five symmetric VRPs with up to 199 customers, and eight asymmetric VRPs with up to 70 customers. while it is said that the exact methods developed for asymmetric instances have in general a poor performance when applied to symmetric ones (Toth and Vigo, 2002), the route splitting approach shows a competent performance of 93.5% on average in the symmetric VRPs. For the asymmetric ones, the approach comes up with lower bounds of 97.6% on average. The route-splitting model can deal with asymmetric cost matrices and non-identical vehicles. Given the ability of the route-splitting model to address a wider range of applications and its good performance on asymmetric instances, we find the model promising and valuable for further research.
Background: Confirm the stability of intervertebral disc sustaining each fused lumbar spine cases, comparing vertical compression, A-P shear force and rotational moment on intervertebral disc of instrumented lumbar spine with simple vertical compression load and follower load using finite element analysis. Materials and Methods: We analyze the stability of intervertebral disc L4-5 supporting fused lumbar spine segments. After performing finite element modelling about L1-L5 lumbar vertebral column and L1-L4 each fusion level pedicle screw system for fused lumbar spine fine element model. Conclusion: As a result of finite element interpretation of instrumented lumbar spine, the stability of L4-5 sustaining fused lumbar segment, the long level fused lumbar spine observed hing stability under follower load. This research method can be the basis tool of effects prediction for instrumentation, a invention of a more precious finite element interpretation model which consider the role of muscle around the spine is loaded.
A precision measurement and digital image restoration of the 5th century's gilt bronze cap of Baekje dynasty, excavated from the ancient tomb of Andong, Goheung in 2006, was undertaken. The objective of the scanning is to preserve precise feature of the artefact in the form of digital data by embodying it in 3 dimensional space. Acquirement of the data has been undertaken in the following process : 3D scanning to obtain 3D shape and color information(original data photographing)-3D modelling(joining original data and restoring non-photographed or damaged area)-CG image production. Production of restoration CG image was based on joined shape of original data and each part's measurement on CAD. Non-photographed part and area of loss was restored referring actual measurement and research result of excavated cap from the 5th to 8th century. 3D image restoration is one of artefact restoration methods which restores artefact without risk. It is also undertaken with historical research. As result, this method can enhance aesthetic and academic value of the artefact by successful restoration.

Failure of small bore piping welds is a recurring problem at nuclear power plants. And the socket weld cracking in small bore piping has caused unplanned plant shutdowns for repair and high economic impact on the plants. Consequently, early crack detection, including the detection of manufacturing defects, is of the utmost importance. Until now, the surface inspection methods has been applied according to ASME Section XI requirements. But the ultrasonic inspection as a volumetric method is also applying to enforce the inspection requirement. However, the conventional manual ultrasonic inspection techniques are used to detect service induced fatigue cracks. And there was uncertainty on manual ultrasonic inspection because of limited access to the welds and difficulties with contact between the ultrasonic probe and the OD(outer diameter) surface of small bore piping. In this study, phased array ultrasonic inspection technique is applied to increase inspection speed and reliability. To achieve this object, the 3.5 MHz phased array ultrasonic transducer are designed and fabricated. The manually encoded scanner was also developed to enhance contact conditions and maintain constant signal quality. Additionally inspection system is configured and inspection procedure is developed.

According to the increasing demand for 3D indoor spatial information, the utilization of a terrestrial laser scanner comes to the fore. However, the research for the comparison between a terrestrial laser scanning method and a traditional surveying method is insufficient. The paper evaluated the time-efficiency and the locational accuracy of an AMCW type and a direct TOF type of terrestrial laser scanning methods in comparison with the observation using a total station. As a result, an AMCW type showed higher time-efficiency than a direct TOF type and the RMSE between the two types of data was ${\pm}1mm$. Moreover, the terrestrial laser scanning method showed twice higher time-efficiency than the observation using a total station and the RMSE between the two data was ${\pm}3.4cm$. The results indicate that the terrestrial laser scanning method has better profitability and performance for 3D indoor modeling than the traditional survey using a total station. In the future, a terrestrial laser scanner can be efficiently utilized in the construction of 3D indoor spatial information.
Effects of Yongdam Dam discharge conditions on water quality of the Keum River and Daechung Lake inflow were analyzed for various scenarios using WASP5 water quality model. Three different groups of scenarios were tested: 1) Two different weather conditions; the lowest flow year and the highest flow year since the beginning of Daechung Dam operation in 1981, 2) Fine discharge flow rates; 5.4, 8.9, 12.4, 16.4 ㎥/s and field observed flow during the study period, 3) Three conditions of discharge water quality; first grade, second grade by Korean water quality standard and field observed water quality. Effect of changes in Yongdam Dam discharges was greater for dry year. The increase of discharge from the Yongdam Dam will improve water quality of downstream areas only when the water quality of the discharge is equal or better than that of downstream areas. Field observed water qualify data show that BOD concentrations are lower than first grade level but TN and TP concentrations are exceeding 5th and 3rd grade level in Korean standard, respectively. Considering that nutrient control methods in watershed areas of Yongdam dam are limited, it is expected that nutrient concentrations from Yongdam Dam discharge will be higher than 2nd grade water quality standard level. Therefore, it would be important to develop practical management strategies in the watershed area of Yongdam Dam based on field conditions for conservation of water quality in downstream areas.

The prediction for vegetation attenuation using the RET model recommended in the ITU-R requires six RET input parameters. Among these, 4 parameters are related to the scattering characteristics of vegetation. To extract these parameters, two methods can be used. One is to extract the parameters by curve fitting of the measured vegetation-attenuation curve with the RET prediction model, and the other is to use the additional phase function measurement data. In the former method, fitting is quite complex and it does not result in the unique results in some cases. In addition, the extracted parameters lack the physical meaning as well. Thus, in this paper, the measurement method of phase function, and the method of extracting the RET model parameters which lead to more accurate and physically more meaningful results are presented. The extracted RET model parameters are also presented. The RET modeling method, measurement data, and the extracted RET model parameters presented in this paper were submitted to the ITU-R meeting in 2006, and adapted for ITU-R report and recommendation P.833.
The interpretation of observed waveform characteristics identified in refraction and wide-angle reflection data increases confidence in the crustal structure model obtained. When calculating traveltimes and raypaths, wavefront methods on a regular grid based on graph theory are robust even with complicated structures, but basically compute only first arrivals. In this paper, we develop new algorithms to compute traveltimes and raypaths not only for first arrivals, but also for fast and later reflection arrivals, later refraction arrivals, and converted waves between P and S, using the modified wavefront method based on slowness network nodes mapped on a multi-layer model. Using the new algorithm, we can interpret reflected arrivals, Pg-later arrivals, strong arrivals appearing behind Pn, triplicated Moho reflected arrivals (PmP) to obtain the shape of the Moho, and phases involving conversion between P and S. Using two models of an ocean-continent transition zone and an oceanic ridge or seamount, we show the usefulness of this algorithm, which is confirmed by synthetic seismograms using the 2D Finite Difference Method (2D-FDM). Characteristics of arrivals and raypaths of the two models differ from each other in that using only first-arrival traveltime data for crustal structure analysis involves risk of erroneous interpretation in the ocean-continent transition zone, or the region around a ridge or seamount.

This study aims to generate digital elevation model from digital satellite imagery. Digital elevation model is being increasingly used for geo-spatial information system database development and for digital map production. Image matching technique was applied to acquire conjugate image coordinates and the algorithm for digital elevation model generation is presented in this study The exterior orientation parameters of the satellite imagery is determined by bundle adjustment and standard correlation was applied for image matching conjugate of image points. The window as well as the searching area have to be defined in image matching. Different sizes of searching area were tested to study the appropriate size of the searching area. Various coordinate transformation methods were applied to improve the computation speed as well as the geometric accuracy. The results were then statistically analysed after which the searching area is determined with the safety factor. To evaluate the accuracy of digital elevation model, 3-D coordinates were extracted from 1/5000 scale topographic map and this was compared to the digital elevation model generated from satellite imagery. The algorithm for generation of digital elevation model generated from satellite imagery is presented in this study which will prove effective in the database development of geo-spatial information system and in digital elevation modelling of large areas.
Through advances driven by the Internet and the Smart Revolution, the amount and types of data generated by users have increased and diversified respectively. There is now a new concept at the center of attention, which is Big Data for assessing enormous amount of data and enjoying new values therefrom. In particular, efforts are required to analyze narratives within video clips and to study how to visualize such narratives in order to search contents stored in the Big Data. As part of the research efforts, this paper analyzes dialogues exchanged among characters and offers an interface named "Character-net" developed for modelling narratives. The interface Character-net can extract characters by analyzing narrative videos and also model the relationships between characters, both in the automatic manner. This signifies a possibility of a tool that can visualize a narrative based on an approach different from those used in existing studies. However, its drawbacks have been observed in terms of limited applications and difficulty in grasping a narrative's features at a glace. It was assumed that Character-net could be improved with the introduction of information design. Against the backdrop, the paper first provides a brief explanation of visualization design found in the data information design area and investigates research cases focused on the visualization of narratives present in videos. Next, key ideas of Character-net and its technical differences from existing studies have been introduced, followed by methods suggested for its potential improvements with the help of design-side solutions.
