This paper considers the replacement model and the preventive maintenance model following the expiration of combination warranty for a repairable system. If the system fails after the combination warranty is expired, then it is minimally repaired at each failure. The criterion used to determine the optimal replacement policy and the optimal preventive maintenance policy is the overall value function based on the expected cost rate per unit time and the expected downtime per unit time. The numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose when the failure time follows a Weibull distribution.
In this paper, an estimation system of vehicle position and orientation on magnetic lane, which is a parameter of the steering controller for automated lane following is described. To verify that the magnetic dipole model could be applied to a magnetic unit paved in roadway, the analysis of the model is compared with the data of 3-axis magnetic field measured experimentally. The sensor location could be estimated by analysis of the model based on experimental data. For the magnetic lane model merged magnetic unit, the relation of sensor location and magnetic field is acquired experimentally. The proposed estimation of vehicle position and orientation is adopted to automated lane following by computer simulation.

A design objective for variable stability flight control system is to develop a controller of in-flight simulation capability that forces the aircraft being flown to follow the dynamics of other aircraft. This paper presents a model-following variable stability control system (VSS) for in-flight simulation which consists of feedforward and feedback control laws, the aircraft dynamic model to be simulated, and switching and fader logics to reduce the transient effect between two aircraft dynamics. The separate design techniques for feedforward and feedback control law proposals are based on model matching and augmented linear quadratic (LQ) techniques. The system allows pilots to select and engage VSS mode, and when deselected, the aircraft reverts to the baseline flight control system. Both the baseline flight control laws and VSS control laws are computed continuously during flight. Initialization of the state values are necessary to prevent instability, since VSS control laws have integrators and filters in longitudinal, and lateral/directional axes. This paper demonstrates and validates the effectiveness and quality of VSS with F-16 models embedded in T-50 in-flight simulation aircraft.

Recently, an extended warranty of the system following the expiration of the basic warranty is becoming increasingly popular to the user. In this respect, we suggest a preventive maintenance model following the expiration of extended warranty with minimal repair warranty from the user's point of view in this paper. Under basic warranty and extended warranty, the failed system is minimally repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the user. For the preventive maintenance model, we derive the expressions for the expected cycle length, the expected total cost and the expected cost rate per unit time. Also, we determine the optimal preventive maintenance period and the optimal preventive maintenance number by minimizing the expected cost rate per unit time. Finally, the numerical examples are presented to illustrate the purpose when the failure time of the system has a Weibull distribution.
This paper proposes a fault-tolerant control strategy with finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) based on hierarchical optimization for five-level H-bridge neutral-point-clamped (5L-HNPC) inverter-fed induction motor drives. Fault-tolerant operation is analyzed, and the fault-tolerant control algorithm is improved. Adopting FCS-MPC based on hierarchical optimization, where the voltage is used as the controlled objective, called model predictive voltage control (MPVC), the postfault controller is simplified as a two layer control. The first layer is the voltage jump limit, and the second layer is the voltage following control, which adopts the optimal control strategy to ensure the current following performance and uniqueness of the optimal solution. Finally, simulation and experimental results verify that 5L-HNPC inverter-fed induction motor drives have strong fault tolerant capability and that the FCS-MPVC based on hierarchical optimization is feasible.
Background: Epidemiological studies have indicated an increasing incidence of radiation induced secondary cancer (SC) in breast cancer patients after radiotherapy (RT), most commonly in the contra-lateral breast (CLB). The present study was conducted to estimate the SC risk in the CLB following 3D conformal radiotherapy techniques (3DCRT) including wedge field and forward intensity modulated radiotherapy (fIMRT) based on the organ equivalent dose (OED). Material and Methods: RT plans treating the chest wall with conformal wedge field and fIMRT plans were created for 30 breast cancer patients. The risks of radiation induced cancer were estimated for the CLB using dose-response models: a linear model, a linear-plateau model and a bell-shaped model with full dose response accounting for fractionated RT on the basis of OED. Results: The plans were found to be ranked quite differently according to the choice of model; calculations based on a linear dose response model fIMRT predict statistically significant lower risk compared to the enhanced dynamic wedge (EDW) technique (p-0.0089) and a non-significant difference between fIMRT and physical wedge (PW) techniques (p-0.054). The widely used plateau dose response model based estimation showed significantly lower SC risk associated with fIMRT technique compared to both wedge field techniques (fIMRT vs EDW p-0.013, fIMRT vs PW p-0.04). The full dose response model showed a non-significant difference between all three techniques in the view of second CLB cancer. Finally the bell shaped model predicted interestingly that PW is associated with significantly higher risk compared to both fIMRT and EDW techniques (fIMRT vs PW p-0.0003, EDW vs PW p-0.0032). Conclusion: In conclusion, the SC risk estimations of the CLB revealed that there is a clear relation between risk associated with wedge field and fIMRT technique depending on the choice of model selected for risk comparison.

In H.264/AVC, the first frame of a group of pictures (GOP) is encoded in intra mode which generates a large number of bits. The number of bits for the I-frame affects the qualities of the following frames of a GOP since they are encoded using the bits remaining among the bits allocated to the GOP. In addition, the first frame is used for the inter mode encoding of the following frames. Thus, the initial quantization parameter (QP) affects the following frames as well as the first frame. In this paper, an adaptive peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR)-based initial QP determination algorithm is presented. In the proposed algorithm, a novel linear model is established based on the observation of the relation between the initial QPs and PSNRs of frames. Using the linear model and PSNR results of the encoded GOPs, the proposed algorithm accurately estimates the optimal initial QP which maximizes the PSNR of the current GOP. It is shown by experimental results that the proposed algorithm predicts the optimal initial QP accurately and thus achieves better PSNR performance than that of the existing algorithm.
Purpose: Measuring viability of a three-dimensional in vitro organotypic human oral tissue model has been suggested as an alternative test method to the oral mucosa irritation test of oral care products. The aim of this study was to investigate the production of two different cytokines using organotypic human oral tissue model following exposure to chemicals that are commonly used in oral care products. Materials and Methods: The organotypic human oral tissues were exposed to ethanol, sodium lauryl sulphate or hydrogen peroxide for 90 minutes. Following exposure, interleukin (IL)-1α and IL-8 productions were assessed and correlated with cell viability testing as well as histology of the organotypic human oral tissues. Result: High levels of IL-8 were released from organotypic human oral tissues in all of the test and control groups without any significant differences between them. In contrast, differences were found in IL-1α release between the test and control groups. Additionally, the trend of IL-1α release corresponded to the phenotypes observed in histological analysis while different trend existed between IL-1α release and cell viability. Conclusion: The study concluded the non-specific release of IL-8 for the assessment of oral care product chemicals' toxicity, while potential of measuring IL-1α cytokine level as the possible alternative test method.
At its thirty-second session(Vienna, 17 May-4 June 1999), the UNCITRAL decided that the priority items for the Working Group(Arbitration and Conciliation) should include enforceability of interim measures and the requirement of written (on for the arbitration agreement. The Working Group, at its forty-third session(Vienna, 3-7 October 2005), it had undertaken a detailed review of the text of the revised article 17 of UNCTTRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration, and it had resumed discussions on a draft model legislative provision revising article 7, paragraph (2) of UNCITRAL Model Law. The purpose of this paper is to make research on the contents and issues of the draft legislative provisions on interim measures and preliminary orders, and on the form of arbitration agreement which the Working Group discussed and adopted at its forth-fourth session(New York, 23-27 January 2006). The draft legislative provisions on interim measures and preliminary orders are composed of the following provisions : Article 17-power of arbitral tribunal to order interim measures; article 17 bis-conditions for granting interim measures; article 17 ter-applications for preliminary orders and conditions for granting preliminary orders; article 17 quater-specific regime for preliminary orders; article 17 quinquies- modification, suspension, termination; article 17 sexies-provision of security; article 17 septies-disclosure; article 17 octies-costs and damages; article 17 novies recognition and enforcements; article 17 decies-grounds for refusing recognition or enforcement; article 17 undecies-court-ordered interim measures. A mathematical model of responsibility-sensitive safety (RSS) has been proposed as a way to determine whether an autonomous driving accident has occurred. Autonomous vehicles related industry and academia have shown great interest in this model. However, this mathematical model lacks a comprehensive review on whether the model can be used to clarify responsibilities of autonomous vehicles in the event of a traffic accident. In this study, we analyzed the issues that need to be solved in order to apply the RSS model. In conclusion, there is a limit in the equation and the social acceptability of the RSS model. To use the RSS model practically, it is necessary to define the response time of the autonomous vehicle and to measure and control the reaction time value according to the appropriate technology level for each autonomous vehicle.
