  • As 3D solid modeling has been widely used in designing products, solid models of the products are directly used in various applications such as engineering analysis and process planing. However, the fully-detailed solid models may not be necessary in some application. For example, it is often more efficient to use simplified model of part of engineering analysis. Generation of mesh for the complex original model requires a quite amount of time, and the consequence of finite element analysis may not be desirable due to small and detailed geometry in the model. In this paper, a method to simplify solid models of machined part is presented. This method decomposes the delta volume of machined part, and uses the decomposed volumes to simplify the solid model. Since this method directly recognizes the features to be removed from the final model, it is independent of not only design features of specific CAD system, but also designer's design practice of design sequences.

  • This study aimed to develop an optimal model of transportation for people with disabilities. To achieve this goal, powers of research and design should be involved, including CAD software. This paper investigates both: the concept of optimal model of transportation for people with disabilities (functional, ergonomic, constructive, technological and aesthetic solutions included); and its implementation as a fully-fledged 3D-model designed in SolidWorks environment. The optimal model of transportation is complex and consists of two objects. The first object is for indoors that is a wheelchair, the second one is for street driving that is an individual vehicle. The optimal model of transportation is universal and multifunctional, which have become possible with parametric feature-based approach utilized in SolidWorks.

  • Design of settlement space is a complicated process while reasonable spatial layout bears great significance on the development and resource allocation of a settlement. The study proposes a weighted L-system generation algorithm based on CA (Cellular Automation) model which tags the spatial attributes of cells through changes in their state during the evolution of CA and thus identifies the spatial growth mode of a settlement. The entrance area of the Caidian Botanical and Animal Garden is used a case study for the model. A design method is proposed which starts from the internal logics of spatial generation, explores possibility of spatial rules and realizes the quantitative analysis and dynamic control of the design process. Taking a top-down approach, the design method takes into account the site information, studies the spatial generation mechanism of settlements and further presents a engine for the generation of multiple layout proposals based on different rules. A optimal solution is acquired using GA (Genetic Algorithm) which generates a settlement spatial layout carrying site information and dynamically linked to the surround environment. The study aims to propose a design method to optimize the spatial layout of the complex settlement system based on parametric generation.

  • EDI is basically the concept of computer-to-computer exchange of messages relating to various types of activities or business areas, such as banking, trade, medicine, publishing, etc. Therefore, security, reliability and special functionality will be implicit requirements of EDI systems. We will design access control model to content security of these requirements. Access controls in information systems are responsible for ensuring that all direct access to the entities occur exclusively according to the access modes and rules fixed by security policies. On this paper, security policies for access control model are presented from the viewpoints of identity-based, rule-based, role-based policy. We give a design of access control model for secure EDI service based on the derived access control rules and operations to enforce the defined security policies. The proposed access control model provides integrity, confidentiality and a flow control of EDI messages.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method of PID adaptive controller based on frequency domain analysis. The method is based on the estimation of a nonparametric process model in the frequency domain and the determination of the PID controller parameters by achieving partial model matching so as to minimize a performance function concerning to relative model error between the loop transfer function of the control system and the desired system. In the design method the process is represented only by a discrete set of points on the Nyquist curve of the process. Therefore it is not necessary to estimate a full order parameterized process model.

  • Enterprise integration, which aims to enhance an enterprise's competitive edge, requires a highly structured product information model as a common product database. Previous research works on this issue have been narrowly focused on the transformation of product information between various operation areas, leading to a situation where enterprise integration lacks a formal method of information modeling. In this paper, research works and issues surrounding product information modeling for enterprise integration are reviewed, and the requirements for a product information model are identified. A product information model called L3DPIM (Layered Three Dimentional Product Information Model) is proposed, which is based on a feature-based design process. This model is expected to serve as a modeling paradigm for enterprise integration.

  • The lack of objective decisive criteria and the absence of analyzing tools accrued from the experiments on various types developed from space design process makes it difficult to select and execute alternatives for them. As an attempt of coping with these problems, the aims of this study is to establish space analysis' models and to propose possibility of analyzing models by utilizing the technology of image process. It is now under study in the field of artificial intelligence based on the accomplishment of digital images. This study focused on establishment an analysis model based on accomplished digital images and image processing framework. It helps utilize various processing technologies that are currently in use of image processes, and problems of the study can be supplemented through further follow-up studies. Finally, analysis model can be constructed gradually huge design data in the analogue data to the digital image database and be proposed with index in design or evaluation step.

  • The purpose of this study is an optimization of gate valve made by forging method instead of welding method. In this study, we propose an optimal shape design to improve the mechanical efficiency of gate valve. In order to optimize more efficiently and reliably, the meta-modeling technique has been developed to solve such a complex problems combined with the DACE (Design and Analysis of Computer Experiments). The DACE modeling, known as the one of Kriging interpolation, is introduced to obtain the surrogate approximation model of the function. Also, we prove reliability of the DACE model's application to gate valve by computer simulations using FEM(Finite Element Method).

  • At pre-construction design stage, most of the design data are based on the site investigation results or property estimation which often does not provide satisfactory output for the tunnel analysis. Nonlinear FEM tunnel analysis was cariied out by Hoek-Brown model which is principly semi-empirical design method based on insitu rock descriptions, rock test results as well as field measurement data. The results of the analytical methods from Hoek-Brown model and Mohr-Coulomb model are compared with the sige measurement data from two-NATM tunnel construction sites. It was found that the Hoek-Brown model can be satisfactorily adopted as a feed back analysis technique in order to examin the safety of NATM tunnel at any construction stage.

  • This paper presents the design and implementaion of an object-relational geographic information system. This system has been developed on top of a commercial object-relational database management system. It provides flexible spatial data model, spatial query language, visual user interface, and efficient spatial access methods(D0T) in which traditional primary-key access methods can be applied. We report on our design choices and describe the current status of Implementation. The conceptual model of the system is based on SDTS, and is mapped to the intemal obiect-oriented data model.
