  • Recently, data traffic is significantly increased by high rate data service. As a result, radio spectrum is considered one of the most scarce and valuable resources for wireless communications. For the solution of this problem, cognitive radio(CR) has been proposed as an efficient means to opportunistic spectrum sharing between primary (licensed) users and cognitive radio users. In this paper, user selection scheme in CR networks is proposed for additional consideration of secondary system. The proposed user selection scheme mitigates interference to primary user by using orthogonal channel vectors while improves performance of secondary system. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves 1.62bps/Hz higher average throughput of whole system than one of the existing scheme.

  • A new method for reducing the common-mode current generated by the voltage variations in a two-inverter air conditioner system by applying a synchronized pulse-width modulation (PWM) strategy is proposed. The PWM signals of the master-mode inverter are generated based on the reference voltage, while those of the slave-mode inverter are output in the opposite direction when the master-mode inverter changes its switching state. However, the slave-mode control results in a mismatch between the reference voltage and the actual output voltage that is modified by synchronized control operation. The proposed method is capable of reducing and controlling this voltage error by performing signal selection in the vector space of the slave-mode inverter, which mitigates the distortion of the phase current. The efficacy of this method in reducing conducted emissions has been validated both theoretically and experimentally.

  • This paper discusses the user interface for content selection with a video-on-demand system. We suggest two modes for the selection process: active and passive. This paper analyses various video intensive user interfaces using logs of user operation to understand how users behave in each mode.

  • In this paper, we suggest a new quasi-sliding mode condition with a wighting factor which guarantees all the states to reach switching planes and improves the convergence of the state trajectories. The result of computer simulation shows that by the suitable selection of a weighting factor, all the state trajectories reach switching planes and enter the sliding mode having the property of the insensitivity to parameter variation and disturbances.

  • Eigenvoice method is known to be adequate for fast speaker adaptation, but it hardly shows additional improvement with increased amount of adaptation data. In this paper, to deal with this problem, we propose a modified method estimating the weights of eigenvoices in each feature vector dimension. We also propose an adaptation mode selection scheme that one method with higher performance among several adaptation methods is selected according to the amount of adaptation data. We used POW DB to construct the speaker independent model and eigenvoices, and utterances(ranging from 1 to 50) from PBW 452 DB and the remaining 400 utterances were used for adaptation and evaluation, respectively. With the increased amount of adaptation data, proposed dimensional eigenvoice method showed higher performance than both conventional eigenvoice method and MLLR. Up to 26% of word error rate was reduced by the adaptation mode selection between eigenvoice and dimensional eigenvoice methods in comparison with conventional eigenvoice method.

  • In order to successfully develop attitude and orbit control subsystem(AOCS), AOCS engineer performs hardware selection, controller design and analysis, control logic and interface verification on electrical test bed, integrated system test, polarity test, and finally verification on orbit after launching. Attitude and orbit control subsystem for KOMPSAT-2 consists of standby mode, sun mode, maneuver mode, science mode, and power safe mode to stabilize and to control the spacecraft for performing the mission. The sun mode is usually divided into sun point submode, earth search submode and safe hold submode. The maneuver mode is divided into attitude hold submode and ${\triangle}$ V submode, while the science mode divided into science coarse submode and science fine submode. Moreover, it is added to back-up mode which uses wheels as an actuator for sun mode and maneuver mode. In this paper, we describe the controller design process and the performance of the design results with respect to the sun mode and the maneuver mode based on thrusters as an actuator using on flexible model.

  • This paper presents an observer-based chattering free robust optimal control scheme to regulate the total power of a nuclear reactor. The non-linear model of nuclear reactor is linearized around a steady state operating point to obtain a linear model for which an optimal second order integral sliding mode controller is designed. A second order integral sliding mode observer is also designed to estimate the unmeasurable states. In order to avoid the chattering effect, the discontinuous input of both observer and controller are designed using the super-twisting algorithm. The proposed controller is realized by combining an optimal linear tracking controller with a second order integral sliding mode controller to ensure minimum control effort and robustness of the closed-loop system in the presence of uncertainties. The condition for the selection of gains of discontinuous control based on the super-twisting algorithm is derived using a strict Lyapunov function. Performance of the proposed observer based control scheme is demonstrated through non-linear simulation studies.

  • Many mechanical systems are over-constrained if only rigid bodies are used to model the system. One example of such system is a satellite system with solar panels. To avoid this over-constrained problem, solar panels can be modeled as flexible bodies. The CMS(Component Mode Synthesis) method is widely used to analyze the flexible multi-body system because it can considerably approximate the deformation of the flexible bodies using small number of well-selected mode. However, it is very difficult to decide the boundary condition and the selection of modes. In this paper, the methods for mode synthesis and setting the boundary condition are presented to analyze the flexible multi-body system with over-constraints. Finally, the reliability of proposed method is verified by solar panel's deployment test.

  • In the present study, we report that the selection of operation mode is important to take the full advantage of nanofibrous membrane in enzyme immobilization. Silk fibroin nanofibrous membrane has been prepared by electrospinning, and a-chymotrypsin was immobilized as a model enzyme. When the immobilized enzyme was operated in the membrane reactor mode, the Michaelis constant, Km, was lower and the Vmax was higher compared to the batch reactor mode. No concentration gradient was observed in the membrane reactor mode and the immobilized enzyme was stable even after 7 times of re-use. Our results suggests that the enzyme immobilized nanofibrous membrane should be operated in the membrane reactor mode rather than in the bath reactor mode.
