  • Wireless mobile multimedia communications have been greatly increased in the number of users, diversity of applications and interface technologies. Wireless mobile networks are being evolved and integrated into IP based core network, so it is necessary to provide sufficient QoS (Quality of Service) mechanism to provide enhanced user's satisfaction. In this paper, we propose a new adaptive QoS mechanism based on utility function borrowed from the field of microeconomics, call setup and handover signaling mechanism integrating QoS and mobility management. Through a simulation, we show that adaptive resource allocation based on user preferences can be realized in the wireless mobile network with some considerations.

  • This research suggests a monitoring method to support QoS of mobile multimedia services effectively based on information gathering. It means a method in which a subscriber's terminal collects information about its current condition and its surrounding base stations, and a base station, through the data collected by monitoring inner or adjacent base station, shares related data and converges, controlling QoS on its own. In other words, as context information of mobile terminal and base station changes, set-up of related functions and QoS mapping is adapted; each function fits into the change, exchanges the process of reorganization, and interacts; these actions go toward to satisfy service continuity.

  • MANET(Mobile Ad hoc networks) is a mobile, multi-hop, and wireless network which is bandwidth constrained, energy constrained, resource constrained, autonomous, and self operating systems with dynamic topology. These constraints make the routing between communicating nodes in ad hoc networks difficult. In this paper we survey several routing protocol for mobile ad hoc networks. Especially, we focus on Zone Routing Protocol, hybrid routing framework suitable for a wide of mobile ad hoc networks and analyze performance of ZRP. In the case of ZRP protocol, it is essential that the use of optimal zone radius for efficient use. Otherwise it was proved through an simulation that performance of whole network is rapidly decrease with greatly increasing overhead of ZRP traffic that need for transmission of packet by IARP or IERP traffic. Also we suggest the process of finding QoS path that use in-band signal for QoS routing in ad hoc network. This method guarantees route that make real time multimedia service for QoS enabled path.

  • It has been known that the host mobility feature has very significant impact on the QoS (Quality of Service), which is usually required to a real-time multimedia application. The existing QoS support mechanisms to provide the real-time services to fixed network environment, like as RSVP, are inadequate to accommodate the mobile hosts which can frequently change their point of attachments to the fixed network. So, MRSVP (Mobile RSVP) protocol has been proposed to reduce the impacts of host mobility on QoS guarantees, in which a mobile host needs to make advance resource reservations at multiple locations it may possibly visit during the lifetime of the connection. This paper proposes a dynamic dual anchor node (DDAN) architecture which integrates the MRSVP and RSVP tunnel, in addition to the Mobile IP Regional Registration protocol. By limiting the resource reserved in local area, it preserves the lower level of resource reservation, but provides approximately the same degree of QoS support as the existing MRSVP.

  • In this paper, we present an architecture for supporting QoS multicast routing in mobile ad-hoc networks. The proposed architecture consists of three parts as follows. The first part is a mobility-based clustering as underlying structure for supporting stable multicast services. In the second part, a framework which can support and evaluate the stability of route and network for supporting QoS routing is presented. In the third part, we describe a method which uses two structures of the first and second parts for supporting QoS multicast routing services. The performance evaluation of our proposed architecture is accomplished via modeling and simulation using the Optimized Network Engineering tool(OPNET).

  • It has known that the handover based on MIP in mobile environments has many constraints for proving seamless service due to well hon problems. Although there has been researching for the solutions, such as MRSVP and HMRSVP etc, it is difficult to do the research related with QoS due to the issues based on MIP used as a seamless mobility. In this paper, the seamless provides in a mobility based on SCTP, which is applied by IntServ for end-to-end QoS service. The paper also proposes the path management scheme for saving reservation cost. the scheme searches a new path on the moving mobile terminal and reserves the resources on the path for providing seamless QoS service. The paper is also analyzed on the comparition between a SCTP based and MIP based solutions. the scheme is evaluated using the cost effect saved for resource reservation.

  • Resource Reservation Protocol(RSVP) can provide Quality-of-Service(QoS) guarantees for real-time services in wired networks. However, RSVP suffers from mobility problem in the mobile Internet. Therefore, to provide seamless QoS services, it is needed that a mobile node makes a reservation everywhere it visits. Recently, many protocols have been proposed to provide QoS guarantees through advance resource reservation. But, these proposals have problems with a waste of bandwidth and the signaling overhead due to advance resource reservation. In this paper, we propose new advance resevation protocol, Proportional Aggregate RSVP(PA-RSVP) to minimize the resource reservation bandwidth and the signaling overhead in the mobile Intemet while providing QoS guarantees. Based on the performance evaluation, we show that the proposed protocol provides an improved performance over existing protocols under various system conditions.

  • Recently there are increasing needs for Internet and various kinds of contents. These traffics for various contents need more amount of data to provide high-quality information and require various QoS depending on the characteristics of contents. However, current Internet service supports BE (Best Effort) service only, therefore IntServ (Integrated Service) scheme and DiffServ (Differentiated Service) scheme are represented to support QoS in IP layer. Moreover, while wireless Internet is getting popular, MAC(Medium Access Control)is also becoming important. This is due to the fact that wireless access, resource allocation and packet scheduling, which are done in another layers before, are performed in MAC layer in many new wireless systems. This paper describes new scheme that provides QoS taking into account the traffic characteristics over Mobile IPv6 network based on IEEE 802.11e EDCF and evaluates the performance through computer simulation.

  • Mobile WiMAX system provides broadband wireless access with a variety of services such as voice, video and data communications and providing QoS for each of these services become an important issue. In Mobile WiMAX system, it is important to allocate resources appropriately in order to support the efficient utilization of resources among various real-time and non real-time services. Although many packet scheduling schemes for real-time services in OFDMA system have been proposed, it need to be modified to apply to Mobile WiMAX system. Since Mobile WiMAX supports five types of service classes, QoS constraints of each class should be taken into consideration. In this paper, we propose an efficient packet scheduling scheme to support various services by considering the QoS constraints of each class.
