  • Streaming Technology can support the real-time playback without downloading and storing multimedia data in local HDD. So, client browser or plug-in can represent multimedia data before the end of file transmission using streaming technology. Recently, the demand for efficient real-time playback and transmission of large amounts of multimedia data is growing rapidly. But most users' connections over network are not fast and stable enough to download large chunks of multimedia data. In this paper, we propose an intelligent IP streaming system based on personalized media service. The proposed IP streaming system enables users to get an intelligent recommendation of multimedia contents based on the user preference information stored on the streaming server or the home media server. The supposed intelligent IP streaming system consists of Server Metadata Agent, Pumping Server, Contents Storage Server, Client Metadata Agent and Streaming Player. And in order to implement the personalized media service, the user information, user preference information and client device information are managed under database concept. Moreover, users are assured of seamless access of streamed content event if they switch to another client device by implementing streaming system based on user identification and device information. We evaluate our approach with manufacturing home server system and simulation results.

  • Typically, the file sizes of JPEG compressed images with various complexity differ from images regardless of same image size. So, it is not easy to estimate the remaining image counts that should be stored in the limited storage equipped with the digital camera. To solve the problem, the bit rate control employs the modification of quantization table. The previous work assumed that there is linear relation between image activity and modification factor of quantization table, but in this paper, more accurate functional relations based on statistics are employed to improve the bit rate control accuracy. Computer simulations reveals that the standard deviation of the bit rate error of the proposed scheme is 50% less than that of the conventional method.

  • In this paper, we propose a new distribution and renewal scheme for a group key suitable for secure mobile communications based on identification protocol, in which all members of the group can reshare the new group common key except revoked members by using a key distribution center (a trusted center). The security of this scheme is based on the difficulty of the discrete logarithm problem. The proposed scheme can be appropriately managed in case that terminal's capability of storage and computing power is relatively small and more than one caller are revoked. It also renews a group key easily when the center changes this key intervally for security.

  • Recently people have been offered location based services on road networks. The navigation system, one of applications, serves to find the nearest gas station or guide divers to the shortest path based 2D map. However 3D map is more important media than 2D map to make sense friendly for the real. Although 3D map's data size is huge, portable devices' storage space is small. In this paper, we define continuous perspective queries to support 3D map to mobile user on road networks and propose this queries processing method.

  • Telematics is a leading IT service where wireless internet service represented by information and mobility is extended to the area of transportations to provide Telematics service. One of the killer-application about Telematics is navigation system. Recently, due to the mass storage conversion, the performance of the terminal and mobile communications technology development, navigation system is also changed. It more and more develops into 3D in a pre-existence 2D map. In the future, it is expected to include the remote sensing map or video map. There is also the characteristic of all the information expressed in frequently a change partially happening. That is, POI(Point Of Interest) which is freshly registered or is deleted is many. In a pre-existence, Map Contents Providers offer the new version map by off-line monthly or quarterly. And a user wastes time and is inconvenient because of updating the total map by the off-line. Thus, in this paper, in order to resolve this, we describe MAUS(Map Air Update Server) for updating only the partial map that was changed

  • Spatial database systems achieve filtering steps with MBR(Minimum founding Rectangle) for efficient query processing, and then carry out refinement steps for candidate objects. While most operations require fast execution of filtering, it is necessary to increase the filtering rates and reduce the number of refinement steps in the low computing powered devices. The compact representation method is also needed in the mobile devices with low storage capacity. The paper proposes various approximation methods for efficient spatial operations in the multiplatform environments. This paper also designs a compression technique for MBR, which occupies almost 80% of index data in the two dimensional case. We also analyze the advantages and drawbacks of each method in terms of space utilization, filtering efficiency and speed.

  • Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) is the mobile TV service based on a digital radio transmission system that provides high quality audio/video and other auxiliary data services. As users want to store the DMB content in their device to be consumed later or to be shared among users, a standardized format needs to be specified to guarantee the interoperability for the DMB contents for various devices. DMB AF (Application Format) specification defines a file format for DMB contents and services. It specifies how to combine the variety of DMB contents with associated information for a presentation in a well-defined format that facilitates storage, interchange, management, editing, and presentation of the DMB contents in protected, governed, and interoperable ways. In this paper we present our implementation of DMB AF as part of the development of DMB AF reference software. Our implementation of DMB AF is developed as the reference software for the standard specification that consists of a three applications: packager, media player, metadata browser and collection of supporting libraries used by the applications.

  • Construction supply chain management (CSCM) has become one of the critical factors that determine the success of a construction project as it becomes increasingly complicated and mega-sized. Particularly for high-rise or mega-sized building construction, just-in-time supply chain management is required due to lack of storage space and effective logistics for construction components and materials at a construction site. Despite the fact that research and development of radio frequency identification (RFID) and wireless sensor network (WSN) technology have been performed, construction project managers still need to carry mobile devices and check material and component flow at each stage of the supply chain process. This research proposes that the equipment used in the construction supply chain process, such as movers, trailers, gates, and hoists, can become main actors in the supply chain process using RFID and WSN technologies. And the proposed equipment and process focused on a solution to the redundancy identification problem, which has been observed in operations that use RFID/WSN-based processes for construction logistics. This paper also presents issues identified through verification and validation of the research results and proposes further studies.

  • The generally accepted idea for carbohydrate translocation in plants is an osmotic pressure flow hypothesis. According to the hypothesis, a high concentration of carbohydrate in the phloem of carbohydrate synthesis regions (source) causes a water influx into the phloem. The generated osmotic potential in the phloem is responsible for long distance carbohydrate transport through the positive hydrostatic pressure. In regions of carbohydrate utilization and storage (sink), translocated carbohydrates are continuously metabolized and compartmentalized, generating a concentration gradient between source and sinks. In this system, carbohydrates load into the phloem (phloem loading) and unload out of the phloem (phloem unloading). Phloem-mobile herbicides that are applied to plants are also translocated from the source to sinks. However, some experimental results reveal that the patterns of phloem translocation between carbohydrates and herbicides are different. The differences are due, in part, to the physico-chemical properties of herbicides and to the absence/presence of specific carrier(s) in the phloem.
