  • Rapid technological innovation led by digitization has significantly changed the business of digital content goods, and has led to the emergence of new forms of services, such as music streaming. However, whether the streaming service is a threat to the traditional downloading service is still under debate. In this study, we examine whether music downloading is a substitute for or a complement to music streaming by investigating the moderating effects of LTE technology penetration. Using a unique dataset on the online music market from a dominant music platform in Korea, we found that music downloading services are complementary to music streaming services, but this complementary relationship is significantly and positively moderated by the introduction of LTE technology.

  • As mobile augmented reality technologies are spreading these days, many users want to produce augmented reality (AR) contents what they need by themselves. To keep pace with such needs, we have developed a mobile AR contents builder (hereafter referred to as MARB) that enables the user to easily connect a natural marker and a virtual object with various interaction events that are used to manipulate the virtual object in a mobile environment so that users can simply produce an AR content using natural photos and virtual objects that they select. MARB consists of five major modules-target manger, virtual object manager, AR accessory manager, AR content manager, and AR viewer. The target manager, virtual object manager and AR accessory manager register and manage natural target markers, various virtual objects and content accessories (such as various decorating images), respectively. The AR content manger defines a connection between a target and a virtual object with enabling various interactions for the desired functions such as translation/rotation/scaling of the virtual object, playing of a music, etc. AR viewer augments various virtual objects (such as 2D images, 3D models and video clips) on the pertinent target. MARB has been developed in a mobile application (app) format in order to create AR contents simply using mobile smart devices without switching to a PC environment for authoring the content. In this paper, we present the detail organizations and applications of MARB. It is expected that MARB will enable ordinary users to produce diverse mobile AR contents for various purposes with ease and contribute to expanding the mobile AR market based on spread of a variety of AR contents.

  • The major purpose of this study is to examine the effects of customers' perceptions toward service quality of mobile music service on customer loyalty and switching intention. For this purpose, this study posited three service quality characteristics including interface, service, price quality as key determinants of customer loyalty and switching intention based on relevant literature reviews. A research model and hypotheses concerning the relationship between these variables were constructed. Moreover, this study explored the moderating effects of attractiveness of alternative and switching costs on the relationship between customer loyalty and switching intention. An online survey was administrated on 433 mobile music service users and a simple, multiple, and hierarchical regression analysis were employed. The results indicated that all of interface, service, price quality have significant positive influences on customer loyalty, and both of service quality and attractiveness of alternatives have influences on the switching intention in a positive way. On the other way, it was shown that switching costs have a negative influence on the switching intention. The moderating effect of attractiveness of alternatives on the relationship between customer loyalty and switching intention was also found. The implications of these results are discussed.

  • In this paper, we propose a staff-line detection and removal algorithm from a music score image obtained by a mobile phone camera. As a preprocessing technique to recognize a music score image, staff-line detection and removal should be efficiently applied to the skewed or curved images. The proposed method detects a staff-line by dividing a staff according to the degree of distortion. The number of division is calculated by dividing a staff repletely until an average of differences of y coordinates in every divided position is smaller than a threshold. Therefore, the number of division can be adaptively estimated according to the degree of the distortion. For an experiment, we make various kinds of images by rotating one from $1^{\circ}\;to\;3^{\circ}$ or curving slightly upward. The results show that the proposed method performed well on the experiment images.

  • In this paper we propose reliable billing schemes between users and contents providers where a user is provided valueadded service for a paid contents using mobile terminals. Our schemes support various types of services such as short messages, bell sounds, images or music data transmissions, and games in mobile communication environments. Using hash chain method, we also reduced the computational overhead of mobile terminals and the volume of data transmitted between the user and the content provider. Content providers can save memory space because they don't need to store each user's usage evidence but still can charge.

  • As mobile devices become multi-functional, and converge into a single platform, there is a strong need for a codec that is able to provide consistent quality for speech and music contents. MPEG-D USAC standardization activities started at the 82nd MPEG meeting with a CfP and approved Study on DIS at the 96th MPEG meeting. MPEG-D USAC is converged technology of AMR-WB+ and HE-AAC V2. Specifically, USAC utilizes three core codecs (AAC, ACELP, and TCX) for low frequency regions, SBR for high frequency regions, the MPEG Surround for stereo information, and window transition technology for smoothing transition between various core coder. USAC can provide consistent sound quality for both speech and music contents and can be applied to various applications such as multi-media download to mobile devices, digital radio, mobile TV and audio books.

  • is a mobile application based SNS video platform that launched its service in China in 2016. At the beginning of the service, TikTok is a music video content platform, and later, it evolved into a social platform that provides a wide variety of contents, and the process of creating, producing, and editing videos was easily provided. Since started its service, it has analyzed various social phenomena that have appeared to young people and the types and characteristics of video content popular in this app. The demand for vertical video content in the form of short clip is on the rise rapidly, which can be expected to improve the quality of video content in accordance with the development of mobile-based imaging technology. Useful for mobile based on the creative video producers through this study data are to be used to.

  • For music score recognition, several approaches have been proposed including shape matching, statistical methods, neural network based methods and structural methods. In this paper, we deal with recognition for low resolution images which are captured by the digital camera of a mobile phone. Considerable distortions are included in these low resolution images, so when existing technology is used, many problems appear. First, captured images are not stable in the sense that they contain lots of distortions or non-uniform illumination changes. Therefore, notes or symbols in the music score are damaged and recognition process gets difficult. This paper presents recognition technology to overcome these problems. First, musical note to head, stick, tail part are separated. Then template matching on head part of musical note, and remainder part is applied. Experimental results show nearly 100% recognition rate for music scores with single musical notes.

  • Smart phone market launched Apple iPhone, and mobile devices having various sizes and operating system began to be enabled. The users search the necessary contents any time and everywhere by a smart phone. And they can use various contents immediately such as information, videos, music etc. Recently, digital devices including mobile has become a large proportion of in everyday life. Therefore, UI/UX which is responsible for the communication between the user and the mobile device is very important. It has been recognized as an important factor for users to determine how easy to use the mobile device. In this paper, it is discussed how to minimize the inconvenience of use while improving the convenience of the UI / UX that make up the mobile web. Then, it is presented an evaluation criteria of Mobile Web UI/UX for improving the usability of the mobile device.

  • The purpose of this study was to find whether there is sound quality difference among mobile service providers in terms of ringtone in mobile phones, and identify factors that contribute to the difference of sound quality. A series of experiments were performed to identify the source of sound difference while controlling brand factor of the leading company. Mobile service provider, phone manufacturer, phone model variation, specific music genre and contents provider factors were examined. The results showed there was sound quality difference among mobile service providers. The difference comes from mobile phones provided to service provider and sound contents. There was difference in sound quality among same models that provided to different service providers. The different sound making process contributed to the difference of sound quality. The genre effect was not clear. To complement the limitation of samples used, an interview with the sound expert of mobile device was performed. The results showed hardware parts used and careful tuning of the device can influence to the sound quality of the mobile phone.
