  • The traditional centralized network management method using the SNMP has problems, such as, increase of communication traffic and severe bottleneck phenomena at the specific manager-node caused by a frequent polling mechanism. Several mobile agent based network management methods have been studied to solve and overcome these problem. However, in these mobile agent based methods, as the number of nodes to be managed is increased, the mobile data are increased accumulatively and the effectiveness of the network management is decreased. In this paper, we propose the split management method by using mobile agents to handle these problems. In our method, the nodes are divided into groups to be handled by separate mobile agents. Each mobile agent visits its own nodes and gets management information from them. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method using experimental results.

  • When the Mobile IP is applied for mobility management protocol in the next-generation mobile communication networks, it can cause a serious performance degradation called micro-mobility problem. In this paper, we propose ANMM(Access Network Mobility Management) to efficiently support micro-mobility in the IP-based wireless access network. The ANMM scheme can reduce the handoff latency and signaling overhead resulting in performance enhancement by managing the mobility of mobile nodes within access network.

  • In this paper, the fuzzy group method data handling-type(GMDH) neural networks and their application to the forecasting of mobile communication system are described. At present, GMDH family of modeling algorithms discovers the structure of empirical models and it gives only the way to get the most accurate identification and demand forecasts in case of noised and short input sampling. In distinction to neural networks, the results are explicit mathematical models, obtained in a relative short time. In this paper, an adaptive learning network is proposed as a kind of neuro-fuzzy GMDH. The proposed method can be reinterpreted as a multi-stage fuzzy decision rule which is called as the neuro-fuzzy GMDH. The GMDH-type neural networks have several advantages compared with conventional multi-layered GMDH models. Therefore, many types of nonlinear systems can be automatically modeled by using the neuro-fuzzy GMDH. The computer program is developed and successful applications are shown in the field of estimating problem of mobile communication with the number of factors considered.

  • Fast Handover for Proxy Mobile IPv6 (FPMIPv6), a protocol described in RFC 5949, is used to reduce handover latency and minimize packet loss problem occuring in the Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) protocol. However, during the study of implementing FPMIPv6, we found the Out-of-Order Packet (OoOP) problem that occurs in the experiment of FPMIPv6. Since the OoOP is an issue that affects significantly to QoS of the network, in this paper, we analyze the OoOP problem by using network model. The analysis conducts the cause of occurring OoOP problem due to there exist two paths for data transmitted from Correspondent Node (CN) to MN in FPMIPv6.

  • Mobile Ad-hoc Network(MANET) could be applied to various applications by virtue of its characteristics such as self-organizing and infrastructure-free network. This paper proposes a multimedia application service model for MANET, called multi-hop Relay(mRelay) system. It supports a multi-hop communication-based multimedia service interworked with Internet by using an unmanned moving robot with wireless multimedia communication function as a mRelay terminal. The modified AODV routing protocol was applied to the terminal and it was verified that composition and maintenance of mobile Ad-hoc network in mRelay system under the various indoor scenarios were successful and stable multi-hop multimedia services were possible. The mRelay system can be applicable to various application services of mobile Ad-hoc networks.

  • In this paper, we describe an implementation of small mobile robot that can be used at research and application of mobile sensor networking. This robot that will constitute the sensor network, as a platform of multi-robot system for each to be used as sensor node, has to satisfy restrictions in many aspects in order to perform sensing, communication protocol, and application algorithms. First, the platform must be designed with a robust structure and low power consumption since its maintenance after deployment is difficult. Second, it must have flexibility and modularity to be used effectively in any structure so that it can be used in various applications. Third, it must support the technique of wireless network for ubiquitous computing environment. At last, to let many nodes be scattered, it must be cost-effective and small. Considering the above restrictions of the mobile platform for sensor network, we designed and implemented robots control the current of actuator by using additional circuit for power efficiency. And we chose MSP430 as MCU, CC2420 as RF transceiver, and etc, that have the strength in the aspect of power. For flexibility and modularity, the platform has expansion ports. The results of experiments are described to show that this robot can act as sensor node by RF communication process with Zigbee standard protocol, execute the navigation process with simple obstacle avoidance and the moving action with RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indicator), operate at low-power, and be made with approx. $100.

  • The Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is a network localized mobility management protocol that is independent of global mobility management protocols. In a single mobility domain (LMD), the mobile node (MN) is not involved in any IP mobility-related signaling and uses only its PMIPv6 home address for all its communication. Subsequently, when the MN moves into another LMD, the MN must change its PMIPv6 home address. In such a circumstance, host-based mobility signaling is activated. Thus, the nature of the network-based mobility of the PMIPv6 cannot be retained. Additionally, if the MN does not support global mobility, it cannot maintain communication with its correspondent node (CN). In this paper, we propose a solution for global mobility support in PMIPv6 networks, called Global-PMIPv6 that allows current communication sessions of a MN without mobility protocol stacks to be maintained, even when the MN moves into another LMD. Thus, Global-PMIPv6 retains the advantages of the PMIPv6 for global mobility support. We then evaluate and compare network performance between our proposed solution and PMIPv6.

  • Mobile RFID is a new application that uses a mobile phone as an RFID reader with wireless technology and provides a new valuable service to users by integrating RFID and ubiquitous sensor network infrastructures with mobile communication and wireless Internet. Whereas the mobile RFID system has many advantages, privacy violation problems on the reader side are very concerning to individuals and researchers. Unlike in regular RFID environments, where the communication channel between the server and reader is assumed to be secure, the communication channel between the backend server and the RFID reader in the mobile RFID system is not assumed to be safe. Therefore it has become necessary to devise a new communication protocol that secures the privacy of mobile RFID-enabled devices. Recently, Lo et al. proposed a mutual key agreement protocol that secures the authenticity and privacy of engaged mobile RFID readers by constructing a secure session key between the reader and server. However, this paper shows that this protocol does not meet all of the necessary security requirements. Therefore we developed an enhanced mutual key agreement protocol for mobile RFID-enabled devices that alleviates these concerns. We further show that our protocol can enhance data security and provide privacy protection for the reader in an unsecured mobile RFID environment, even in the presence of an active adversary.

  • Recently, the huge growth of mobile data traffic has driven the earlier commercialization of LTE network and the evolution of LTE-Adv has been accelerated because of this trend of mobile traffic surges. Thus it has enabled the global connectivity and roaming capability due to continual standardization activities. The 3rd generation mobile communication system has been improved through incorporating technologies of HSDPA, MBMS and HSUPA etc continuously. Also, OFDMA/SC-FDMA-based LTE standardization has been under way. In this paper, the architectures of LTE network and protocol have been introduced and their inherent operation mechanisms have also been explored in order to give some insights about the LTE/LTE-Adv networks while their architectures are considered as most prominent candidate for worldwide standard by ITU-R and mobile operators for international communication networks.
