  • The pollutants (Rn, CH, CO, HS, radioactive gas from radiolysis) were generated from the process of construction and operation of underground repository, and after disposal of low-intermediate radioactive waste inside there must be controlled by a ventilation system to distribute them in area where enough air is supported. Therefore, a suitable technical approach is needed especially at an underground repository that is equipped with many entry tunnels, storage tunnels, exhaust-blowing tunnels, and vertical shafts in complicated network form. For the technical approach of such a ventilation system, WIPP (Waste Isolation Pilot Plant) in U. S and SFR (Slutforvar for Reaktorafall) low-intermediate radioactive waste repository in Sweden were selected as the models, for calculating the required air quantity, organizing a ventilation network considering cross section, length, surface roughness of the air passage, and describing a calculation of resistance of each circuit. Based on these procedures, a best suited ventilation system was completed with designing proper capacity of fans and operating plan of vertical shafts. As a result of comparing the two repositories based on the geometry dimensions and ventilation facility equipment operation, more parallel circuit as in WIPP, brought decrease in resistance for entire system leading to reduce of operating costs, and the larger cross-sectional area of the SFR, the greater the percentage of disposal capacity. Accordingly, the mixture of parallel circuit of WIPP repository for reducing resistance and SFR repository formation for enlargement of disposal capacity would be the most rational and efficient ventilation system.

  • Zeolite X adsorbents with large surface area were prepared for using oxygen PSA adsorbent. Selective adsorption performance of nitrogen on the synthesized zeolite X adsorbent was improved by the cation exchange of adsorbent. The zeolite X which had over $650m^2/g$ surface area was synthesized at the conditions of $SiO_2\;:\;Na_2O\;:\;H_2O\;:\;Al_2O_3$ = 2.5 : 3.5 : 150 : 1 mole ratio, $98^{\circ}C$ temperature and 18 h synthesized time in 50 L reactor. The metal ions Li, Ag, Ca, Br, Sr, etc. were investigated for ion exchange with zeolite X. Ag ion was showed the highest ion exchange rate among these metal ions and all metal ions were exchanged with Na ion at equivalent rate. Compared with the NaX adsorbent, the ion exchanged zeolite X adsorbent remarkably improved its adsorption performance of nitrogen at the conditions of $10{\sim}40^{\circ}C$ temperature and 0~9 atm pressure. At an equilibrium pressure under 0.5 atm, adsorption performance of nitrogen on the ion exchanged zeolite adsorbent increased in the order of Ag > Li > Ca > Sr> Ba > K, whereas at an equilibrium pressure over 1 atm showed in the order of Li > Ag > Ca > Sr > Ba > K. Nitrogen/oxygen separation factor of Li ion exchanged zeolite X adsorbent was 13.023 at the partial pressure of nitrogen/oxygen gas mixture similar to air and $20^{\circ}C$ adsorption temperature.

  • This paper examines the effects of a multi-stage pilot split injection strategy on combustion and exhaust emission factors in a single-cylinder diesel engine. One analysis noted that in the single-injection condition, the maximum in-cylinder pressure and rate of heat release were highest. The pilot injection quantity was evenly divided, showing a tendency to decrease as the number of injections increased. In another injection condition, when the multi-stage pilot split injection strategy was applied, IMEP, engine torque, and combustion increased. The COVIMEP was greatest with the lowest combustion efficiency. The combustion ability was poor. In a single injection condition, the O2 concentration in the exhaust gas was the lowest and the CO2 was the highest. When the multi-stage split injection strategy was applied, the low temperature combustion process proceeded, and the oxidation rate of CO2 decreased while the emission level increased. In a single injection condition in which a locally rich mixture was formed, the HC emission level showed the highest results. A 55.6% reduction of NOx emission occurred under a three-stage pilot injection condition while conducting a multi-stage pilot split injection strategy.

  • The triglyceride compositions of peach kernel and apricot kernel oil have been investigated by a combination of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas liquid chromatography(GLC). The triglycerides of peach kernel and apricot kernel oil were first separated by thin layer chromatography(TLC), and fractionated on the basis of their partition number(PN) by HPLC on a C-18 ${\mu}-Bondapak$ column with methanol-chloroform solvent mixture. Each of these fractionated groups was purely collected and analyzed by GLC according to acyl carbon number(CN) of triglyceride. Also the fatty acid compositions of these triglycerides were determined by GLC. From the consecutive analyses of these three chromatography techniques, the possible triglyceride compositions of peach kernel and apricot kernel oil were combinated into fifteen and thirteen kinds of triglycerides, respectively. The major triglycerides of peach ternel oil were those of $(3{\times}C_{18:1}\;30.9%)$, $(2{\times}C_{18:1},\;C_{18:2},\;21.2%)$, $(C_{18:1},\;2{\times}C_{18:2}\;10.6%)$, $(3{\times}C_{18:2}\;3.8%)$, $(C_{18:0},\;2{\times}C_{18:1},\;1.8%)$, $(C_{16:0},\;C_{18:1},\;C_{18:2},\;1.5%)$, $(C_{18:0},\;C_{18:1},\;C_{18:2},\;1.1%)$ and those of apricot kernel oil were $(3{\times}C_{18:1},\;39.5%)$, $(2{\times}C_{18:1},\;C_{18:2},\;24.5%)$, $(C_{18:0},\;2{\times}C_{18:2},\;14.2%)$, $(3{\times}C_{18:2},\;2.0%)$.

  • In this paper, the interaction between five biocides(commercial) and two ethylsilicate consolidants for stone monuments, reacted in different sequence, has been studied. Through the structures, weight and gelation time of mixture of biocides and consolidants have been evaluated the reactivity of biocide alone, the reactivity of consolidants and biocides, the reactivity of consolidants and dried biocide, and the reactivity of ethylsilicate gel and biocides. The tested biocides show quite different properties from those of consolidants; after evaporation, some biocides are remained white salt crystals, another need the long time for evaporation and one biocide shows pale brown color. The results have shown an interaction of the tested products each other in some application sequences of the products. When the application of liquid state biocides with consolidants, it was noted that some biocide seem to interfere with the formation of gel due to reaction of consolidants and water and salts in biocides. In the reaction of ethylsilicate with dried biocides have shown a heterogenous gel(transparent layer with ethylsilicate alone and white layer which is mixed biocide and ethylsilicate) and many cracks in product due to the different shrinkage, thus the products don't play a role as consolidants. There is no change in structures and color in reaction of the gas state biocide and ethylsilicate gel.

  • Rat embryos were cultured out of the mother from the head-fold stages, 9.5 days to 11.5 days during which they start to develop the brain, eyes, ears and cardiovascular system etc. We principally did the basic experiment in order to establish the best condition of the rat whole embryo culture in our laboratory. The temperature in the culture system was maintained 37$^{\circ}C$$\pm$0.2$^{\circ}C$ for 48 hrs. The culture was carried out in humidified atmosphere of the air, intially, the bottles were equilibrated with 5% $O_2$,5% $CO_2$, and 90% $N_2$gas mixture. After 22 or 24 and 29 or 30 hrs the cultures were reequilibrated with 20% $O_2$, 5% $CO_2$,75% $N_2$and 40% $O_2$, 5% $CO_2$, 55%$N_2$respectively. Various types of sera were tested and for the purpose of minimizing the quantity of rat serum, artificial medium was also tried and it was determined that rat serum supported normal growth over a period of 48 hrs, based on total growth analysis and structural comparisons with in vivo specimens.

  • Fumigation using chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$) has been regarded as a potential control technique against stored grain insect pests. The control efficacy can be enhanced with increase of opening rates of spiracles by facilitating the toxic gas delivery to internal body. To test this hypothesis, this study used the Indianmeal moth, Plodia interpunctella, which was known to be susceptible to $ClO_2$, and analyzed the opening rate of spiracles. A total of 9 pairs of spiracles were observed in P. interpunctella larvae, in which one pair was located on the prothorax and eight pairs were on the abdomen. Within the body, the spiracles were connected to longitudinal and transverse tracheal trunks. The open spiracles were determined by the dye-infiltration method. Based on this method, the opening rate of spiracles increased up to about 60% with increase of ambient temperatures. Furthermore, exposure to carbon dioxide stimulated the opening rate of spiracles up to about 95%. In contrast, exposure to $ClO_2$ prevented the spiracle opening and resulted in only 25% of spiracles in an opening state. The addition of carbon dioxide to $ClO_2$ treatment rescued the opening rate of spiracles as much as the carbon dioxide single treatment. Based on this modulatory activity of carbon dioxide against spiracles, the combined treatment of $ClO_2$ with carbon dioxide resulted in significant increase of its toxicity against P. interpunctella compared to a single $ClO_2$ treatment.

  • In this study, we studied on the remeval of toluene vapors in a lab-scale biofilter. Biofiltration was performed in a column fed downflow with contaminated air at ambient conditions. The column was packed with mixture of Peat and Calstene(5:3 vol. Ratio), Synthesized media, Bark and Wood chip, which were inoculated with microbial population of selected stains(Pseudomonas. putida, KCCM 11343, ATCC 12633). The microorganisms were immobilized on the bed medium and then biofilm were formed. The biofilter was operated under the conditions of various inlet toluene concentrations for 180 days and treated up to the elimination capacity of maximum 40 g/㎥hr at the inlet load of 30 g/㎥ hr with percentage removals of 20∼90% and gas retention times between 1 and 2 min. The pressure drop was very negligible through the biofilter columps because its value of 0.054 cmH$_2$O/m was much less than others. The effect of operating conditions such as flow rate, inlet toluene concentration and moisture contents on the performance of the biofilter was sequentially investigated in this study.

  • Recently, Metal/Alumina/Silicon-Nitride/Silicon-Oxide/Silicon (MANOS) structures are one of the most attractive candidates to realize vertical scaling of high-density NAND flash memory [1]. However, as ANO layers are miniaturized, negative and positive bias temperature instability (NBTI/PBTI), such as the flat band voltage shift, ${\Delta}V_{FB}$, the interfacial trap density increase, ${\Delta}D_{it}$, the gate leakage current, ${\Delta}I_G$. and the retention characteristics, in MONOS capacitors, becomes an important issue in terms of reliability. It is well known that tunnel oxide degradation is a result of the oxide and interfacial traps generation during FN (Fowler-Nordheim) stress [2]. Because the bias temperature stress causes an increase of both interfacial-traps and fixed oxide charge could be a factor, witch can degrade device reliability during the program and erase operation. However, few studies on NBTI/PBTI have been conducted on improving the reliability of MONOS devices. In this work, we investigate the effect of post-annealing gas on bias temperature instability (BTI), such as the flat band voltage shift, ${\Delta}V_{FB}$, the interfacial trap density shift, ${\Delta}I_G$ retention characteristics, and the gate leakage current characteristics of MANOS capacitors. MANOS samples annealed at $950^{\circ}C$ for 30 s by a rapid thermal process were treated via additional annealing in a furnace, using annealing gases $N_2$ and $N_2-H_2$ (2 % hydrogen and 98 % nitrogen mixture gases) at $450^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. MANOS samples annealed in $N_2-H_2$ ambient had the lowest flat band voltage shift, ${\Delta}V_{FB}$ = 1.09/0.63 V at the program/erase state, and the good retention characteristics, 123/84 mV/decade at the program/erase state more than the sample annealed at $N_2$ ambient.

  • 3,3-dichlorobenzidine is suspected to be cancinogenic in experimental animal and human. Several studies have investigated excretion of metabolites in urine, hemoglobin adduction and cancer incidence among workers occupationally exposed to 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine. In these researches, metabolites of 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine had a very important role, and were required as highly purity. The purpose of this study was synthesis and isolation of its metabolites from 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine. 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine was partially dissolved in benzene, ether, ethanol and methanol, and completely dissolved in 70% acetic acid on mixtures of citric acid containing less than 1% DCB, pyridine, a mixture of 0.5N NaOH and toluene(1:2), and phenol saturated with 20 mM TRIZA base. DCB, monoacetyl-DCB and diacetyl-DCB were measured by using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(GC/MS). Detection for checking them was nitrogen phosphorous detection mode(NPD), and for identifying them was selected ion monitoring mode(SIM). The base peaks were 252 m/z in DCB, 252, and 294 m/z in monoacetyl-DCB, and 252, 294 and 336 m/z in diacetyl-DCB, respectively. Diacetyl-DCB was synthesized by titrating DCB solution of pyridine with sufficient acetyl chloride. Precipitation was diacetyl-DCB, which was purity of 98.7%. And its supernatant was composed of DCB, monoacetyl-DCB and diacetyl-DCB. By using acetic acid as controller of acetylation, monoacetyl-DCB was isolated from diacetyl-DCB . And residual pyridine was removed by using acetone. The purity of monoacetyl-DCB was 98.8%.
