  • Basic constraint equations derived from orthogonality conditions between a pair of body-fixed vectors and a body-fixed vector or a vector between two bodies are reformulated by using relative coordinate kinematics between two adjacent reference frames. Arithmetic numbers of operations required to compute derivatives of the constraint equations are drastically reduced. A mixed formulation of relative and cartesian coordinates is developed to further simplify derivatives of the constraints. Advantages and disadvantages of the new formulation are discussed. Possible singularity problem of para llelism constraints is resolved by introducing an extra generalized coordinate. Kinematic analysis of a McPherson strut suspension system are carried out to illustrate use and efficiency of the new formulation.

  • In this study, a new functional based on the Reissner theory, for thick plates on a Winkler foundation is obtained. This functional has geometric and dynamic boundary conditions. In deriving the new functional, the $G{\hat{a}}teaux$ differential is used. This functional which is in polar coordinates is also transformable into the classical potential energy equation. Bending and torsional moments, transverse shear forces, rotations and displacements are the basic unknowns of the functional. Two different sectorial elements are developed with $3{\times}8$ degrees of freedom (SEC24) and $4{\times}8$ degrees of freedom (SEC32). The accuracy of the SEC24 and SEC32 elements together are verified by applying the method to some problems taken from literature.

  • We report the white light emission from the multilayer organic electroluminescent(EL) device using exciplex emission. The exciplex at 500nm originated between poly(N-vinylcarvazole)(PVK) and 2,5-bis(5'-tert-butyl-2-benzoxazoly)thiophene(BBOT) and exciplex of 50nm originated from N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-(3-methyphenyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine(TPD) and BBOT were observed. Also, the energy transfer from PVK to BBOT and poly(3-hexylthiophene)(P3HT) in mixed emitting materials was occurred. The electroluminescence(EL) spectra of organic EL device which have a device structure of ITO/CuPc(5nm)/emitting layer(100nm)/BBOT(30nm)/LiF(1.4nm)/Al(200nm) were slightly changed as a function of the applied voltage. The luminance fo 12.3 ${\mu}$W/$\textrm{cm}^2$ was achieved at 20V and EL spectrum measured at 20V corresponds to Commission Internationale de L\`Eclairage(CIE) coordinates of x=0.29 and y=0.353.

  • Finite element model based on the Naghdi's shell theory in the general tensor-based form is formulated in the present study. Partial mixed variational functional for assumed strain is formulated in order to avoid the severe locking troubles known as transverse shear and membrane locking. The proposed assumed strain element in general tensor Naghdi's shell model provides very accurate solutions for thin shells in benchmark problems. In additions, linear elastic constitutive equations are given in the general curvilinear coordinate system including anisotropic layered structures. Thus laminated composited shell structures are easily analyzed in the present formulation.

  • Recently, a lot of people use touch-pen devices such as smart phones and tab computers. To generate the picture and text, a user can give input or control the touch-pen device through simple or multi-touch gestures by touching the screen with a special stylus pen and/or one or more fingers. The accuracy and response time from the moment of contact with the touch board is very important to the touch device. Therefore, research is needed to find a way of removing the noise included in the touch signal quickly and efficiently. In this paper, we propose a method for removing a noise mixed in with a touch point coordinate which has been caused by a input pen on the touch screen. For effective filtering, the fast sampling of the coordinate corresponding to the noise from the input signal is required primarily. Secondly the total compensation of the touch coordinates using the characteristics of the B-Spline curve is applied to correct coordinates of the points. This method can ensure a real-time response than other algorithms. The applied performance evaluation method is comparing error pixels with evaluation values by dividing 10 intervals on the touch pad diagonally. Usually the average error is 7.1 pixels but our proposed method shows an average 4.1 errors. Therefore, our proposed touch pen method can express the input signal on the coordinates more correctly.

  • This paper describes the development procedure of GUI Program for the automated generation of airfoil performance table used in helicopter comprehensive code. Considering commercialization, the program is developed based on the Windows operating system. In addition, it is aimed to enhance user's convenience by including embedded postprocessor which enables real-time display of calculation procedure and grid system. Using the validated CFD code, the aerodynamic analyses are automated for a given range of Mach number and angles of attack. The computational grid system is designed to generate automatically once the surface coordinates are given. Mixed-Language scheme is employed in order to combine the CFD code in Fortran with C++ based GUI program, which makes the time-consuming code conversion unnecessary.

  • In this paper, we report on the growth and optical characteristics of white-LED without fluorescent material. The growth of DH(double heterostructure) with AlGaN active layer was performed on a n-GaN/(0001) $Al_{2}O_{3}$ by the mixed-source HVPE and multi-sliding boat. The CRI(color rendering index) of packaging device charged in the range 72-93 with CIE chromaticity coordinates(x=$0.26{\sim}0.34$, y=$0.31{\sim}0.40$). And CCT(correlated color temperature) values was measured $5126{\sim}10406K$ with increasing injection current. The CIE point of conventional phosphor white LED shifts blue region, but cm point of non-phosphor white LED shifts opposite direction. These results show the mixed-source HVPE can be possible to newly fabricate method of phosphor free white LED with high CRI value.

  • In this paper, an efficient yet accurate stress analysis based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is presented. The transverse shear strain energy is modified via the mixed variational theorem, so that the shear correction factors are automatically involved in the formulation. In the mixed variational formulation, the transverse stresses are taken to be functions subject to variations. The transverse shear stresses based on an efficient higher order plate theory (EHOPT, Cho and Parmerter, 1993) are utilized and modified, while the transverse normal stress is assumed to be the third-order polynomial of thickness coordinates, which satisfies both zero transverse shear stresses and prescribed surface fractions in top and bottom surfaces. On the other hand, the displacements are assumed to be those of the FSDT Resulting strain energy expressions are referred to as an EFSDTM3D that stands for an enhanced first-order shear deformation theory based on the mixed formulation for three dimensional elasticity, The developed EFSDTM3D preserves the computational advantage of the classical FSDT while allowing for important local through-the-thickness variations of displacements and stresses through the recovery procedure that is based on the least square minimization of in-plane stresses. Comparisons of displacements and stresses of both laminated and sandwich plates using the present theory are made with the classical FSDT, three-dimensional exact solutions, and available data in the literature.

  • In this study, visible and near infrared channels of NOAA/AVHRR data were used to classify land use and vegetation types over Korean peninsula. Analyzing forest stand structures and prediction of forest productivity using satellite data were also reviewed. Land use and land cover classification was made by unsupervised clustering methods. After monthly Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) composite images were derived from April to November 1998, the derived composite images were used as temporal feature vector's in this clustering analysis. Visually interpreted, the classification result was satisfactory in overall for it matched well with the general land cover patterns. But subclassification of forests into coniferous, deciduous, and mixed forests were much confused due to the effects of low ground resolution of AVHRR data and without defined classification scheme. To investigate into the forest stand structures, digital forest type maps were used as an ancillary data. Forest type maps, which were compiled and digitalized by Forestry Research Institute, were registered to AVHRR image coordinates. Two data sets were compared and percent forest cover over whole region was estimated by multiple regression analysis. Using this method, other forest stand structure characteristics within the primary data pixels are expected to be extracted and estimated.
