In recent years, numerous studies have been carried out to find out the possible substitution of PE-coated paperboards used in packaging of watery or oily foods. Accordingly, this study was carried out to obtain the basic data for producing higher functional coating agents for pulp mold by evaluating various kinds of mixed coating agents. At that time, two kinds of synthetic coating agents(AKD, PYA) and three kinds of natural coating agent(CMC, corn starch, oxidized starch) were used for making the mixed coating agents respectively. Physical properties of coated paperboards were tested. Conclusions obtained from this study were as follows. Based on concentrations, the proper mixture ratios were 10:90(AKD:CMC), 10:90(AKD:corn starch), 10:90(AKD:oxidized starch), 40:60(PVA:CMC), 20:80(PVA:corn starch) and 20:80(PYA:oxidized starch). The mixed coating agent of PYA:corn starch(20:80) was the most efficient coating agent. Consequently, water and oil resistance were improved even with much addition of natural coating agents. We consider that they can be suitable for the packaging used in the storage of higher moisture vegetables and other food, and also can be suitable for oily fried food.
This study was carried out to produce high functional and biodegradable coating agents for pulp mold by evaluating various kinds of biodegradable polymers. Five kinds of biodegradable polymers were used. In addition, the mixture of the carboxymethylated starch and biodegradable polymers(${\kappa}$-carrageenan, chitosan) were used for mixed coating agents. Physical properties of coated paperboards were evaluated. Conclusions obtained were as follows. 4% ${\kappa}$-carrageenan and 5% chitosan showed higher water and oil resistance. 10% sodium alginate, 4% corn zein and 15% polycaprolactone showed high water resistance while no improvement was found on oil resistance. The optimum mixture ratios for the mixed coating agents were 90:10(carboxymethylated starch : ${\kappa}$-carrageenan) and 50:50(carboxymethylated starch : chitosan). Since these mixed coating agents have excellent biodegradability with higher water and oil resistance, these can be used for the environmental-friendly coating agents.
For the purpose of manufacturing water-resistant corrugated board boxes for agricultural products in the cold chain system, the effects of fiber types, wet strength agents and a moisture-proof chemical on the properties of the base papers were investigated first. PAE(polyamide amine epichlorohydrin) showed better performance than MF(melamine formalde-hyde) over broad stock pH ranges, which was prefered as wet strength agent for the paper grade. When short fibers(AOCC, KOCC) were mixed with long fiber(UKP) in certain ratios, some physical properties of the paper made with mixed fibers were similar to those of the paper made with UKP only. Paper containing AOCC showed the biggest increase in water resistance when PAE was added to the stock. Synergistic effects in moisture-proof and some mechanical properties of paper were appeared when PAR was added internally, together with the coating of a moisture proof chemical on the sheets.
Objective: This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a water-soluble microencapsulation method for probiotic strains using gum Arabic (GA) and skim milk (SKM) over a three-month storage period following processing. Methods: Four strains of Pediococcus acidilactici (BYF26, BYF20, BF9, and BF14) that were typical lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from the chicken gut were mixed with different ratios of GA and SKM as coating agents before spray drying at an inlet temperature 140℃. After processing, the survivability and probiotic qualities of the strains were assessed from two weeks to three months of storage at varied temperatures, and de-encapsulation was performed to confirm the soluble properties. Finally, the antibacterial activity of the probiotics was assessed under simulated gastrointestinal conditions. Results: As shown by scanning electron microscopy, spray-drying produced a spherical, white-yellow powder. The encapsulation efficacy (percent) was greatest for a coating containing a combination of 30% gum Arabic: 30% skim milk (w/v) (GA:SKM30) compared to lower concentrations of the two ingredients (p<0.05). Coating with GA:SKM30 (w/v) significantly enhanced (p<0.05) BYF26 survival under simulated gastrointestinal conditions (pH 2.5 to 3) and maintained higher survival rates compared to non-encapsulated cells under an artificial intestinal juices condition of pH 6. De-encapsulation tests indicated that the encapsulated powder dissolved in water while keeping viable cell counts within the effective range of 106 for 6 hours. In addition, following three months storage at 4℃, microencapsulation of BYF26 in GA:SKM30 maintained both the number of viable cells (p<0.05) and the preparation's antibacterial efficacy against pathogenic bacteria, specifically strains of Salmonella. Conclusion: Our prototype water-soluble probiotic microencapsulation GA:SKM30 effectively maintains LAB characteristics and survival rates, demonstrating its potential for use in preserving probiotic strains that can be used in chickens and potentially in other livestock.

It is known that the fluoric resin has the most outstanding properties in the extremely acidic environment of high temperature. However, this resin is the thermal hardening type that needs long time heat treatments above $250^{\circ}C$. It's impossible to use in situ in the extremely acidic environment such as a huge FGD ductworks or industrial chemical tanks. Furthermore, even the natural hardening type fluoric coatings which can be hardened less than $120^{\circ}C$ can not be applied to the highly acidic environmental plants because of its chemical resistance. In this study, new fluoric coatings that has excellent thermal resistance, chemical resistance and corrosion resistance has been developed in order to solve above problems and to be applied to the large plant structures in the field. These newly developed coatings are organic and inorganic composite type that have fluoric rubber(100 wt%), fluoric resin(5~50 wt%), oxalates(5~30 wt%), inorganic fillers mixed with plate-type and bulk-type solids(20~150 wt%), hardeners(0.5~5 wt%), and hardening hasteners(0.1~3 wt%). The best chemical and physical properties of these coatings are acquired by variation of adhesive reinforcement agents, dispersants, leveling agents. Mixing ratios of plate-type and bulk-type inorganic fillers influence the thermal properties, abrasive resistance and chemical infiltration properties of coatings. The mixing control is also very important to have homogeneous surface and removing inner voids of coatings.
