  • The aim of this work is to have a better knowledge of reactions that take place in a cement paste, blast furnace slag mixed cement paste and fly ash mixed cement paste and know about the change in chemical components exposed to elevated temperature. The results show that the dehydration reactions appeared differently in the each admixture mixed cement paste and can be used as tracers for determining the temperature history of concrete after a fire exposure.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the compressive strength property into concrete using rice straw ash.. In an effort to evaluate the effects of rice straw ash as mineral admixture, rice straw ash was mixed with cement at the mixture ratio of 0, 5, 10 and 15% relative to the cement weight. When the mixture ratio of rice straw ash was 10%, the highest compressive strength was observed, while the strength tended to decrease when the mixture ratio of rice straw ash was 15% even if it exhibited higher compressive strength than the plain. And it was observed that compressive strength of concrete containing rice husk ash was a similar a compressive strength of concrete containing silica fume.

구조물 뒷채움재로서의 석탄회 활용에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Recycling of Coal Ash as Structural Backfill materials)

  • The purpose of this paper is to recycle coal ash as structural backfill materials from electric power plants. Two million tons of coal ash are produced annually. The laboratory test was executed for the basic compatibility as substitution for structural backfill materials and the optimal mixture ratio(fly ash : bottom ash) was decided. In addition the model test was performed using medium scale earth pressure model with small size earth pressure cells model box data logger and some other apparatuses. Mixed coal ash and excellent backfill materials(coheisonless soil SW) were compared in the view of lateral earth pressure variation depending on wall displacement. The reduction of earth pressure when coal ash was used as a bockfill material was monitored comparing to that of cohesionless soil. the cost and environmental pollutants by treating coal ash can be reduced through developing the recycling technology.

수도상자육묘용(水稻箱子育苗用) 상토자재개발(床土資材開發) (Development of soil media for raising rice seedlings in trays)

  • 수도육묘용(水稻育苗用) 상토(床土)의 자가제조이용(自家製造利用)을 목적(目的)으로 상토개발(床土開發)을 연탄재를 활용(活用)하여 수행(遂行)하였으며 일반(一般) 논양토(壤土) 및 산양토(壤土)를 대조(對照)로 하여 육묘시험(育苗試驗)을 한 결과(結果) 연탄재 단독(單獨)에서는 건물중(乾物重)이 다소 떨어졌으나 연탄재+제오라이트, 연탄재+규조토(硅藻土)에서는 대조(對照)와 대등(對等)하였다. 한편 상토(床土)의 pH는 연탄재단독(單獨)과 토양(土壤)에 퇴비(堆肥)를 혼합(混合)한 상토(床土)에서 높아 립고병(立枯病)이 발병(發病)되었다. 토양(土壤)에 퇴비(堆肥)를 혼합(混合)하지 않고도 양묘(良苗)의 육성(育成)이 가능(可能)하였으며 특(特)히 연탄재를 이용(利用)하여 제조(製造)한 상토(床土)에서도 양묘(良苗)의 육성(育成)이 가능(可能)하였다.

고칼슘 플라이애시를 활용한 모르타르 및 콘크리트의 기초적 물성 (Fundamental Properties of Mortar and Concrete Using High Calcium Fly Ash)

  • 순환유동층 연소방식에서 발생하는 석탄재인 고칼슘 플라이애시를 활용한 무기결합재의 모르타르 및 콘크리트 물성 평가하였다. 그 결과 고온양생조건에서 CFA 혼입 모르타르의 재령 28일 압축강도는 혼입율 25% 범위에서 압축강도는 다소 증가하지만, 그 이상의 범위에서는 혼입율이 증가할수록 압축강도는 저하하는 경향을 보여, 고온양생 사용시 25%이내의 혼입율이 적정할 것으로 사료된다. 또한 고온양생의 경우 CFA 및 BFS 활용한 결합재를 사용한 콘크리트의 압축강도는 OPC를 사용한 콘크리트와 비교하여 재령 1일의 초기 강도 및 재령 28일 이후의 장기강도가 높게 발현되고 있으며, CFA 및 BFS 활용한 결합재 사용에 따른 압축강도 증진은 보다 효과적인 것으로 판단된다.

  • This study evaluated the mechanical and electrical properties of low-cement mortar using a large amount of industrial by-products to reduce carbon emissions from the cement industry. As types of industrial by-products, blast furnace slag and fly ash, which are representative materials, were used, and ultra-high fly ash was mixed and evaluated to solve the problem of initial strength loss. In addition, in order to evaluate the electrical properties, 1% of MWCNT was incorporated relative to the powder mass. As experimental items, the compressive strength was measured on the 1st, 3rd, 7th and 28th days of age, and the rate of change in electrical resistance was measured on the 28th day of age. As a result of the experiment, the initial strength of the test specimen mixed with blast furnace slag and fly ash was significantly lower than that of 100% cement, and the specimen mixed with blast furnace slag showed strength equal to that of cement at 28 days of age. As an electrical characteristic, the electrical resistance was reduced when the load was loaded, and this reason is judged to be the effect of improving the conductivity as the connection between CNTs is narrowed by the compressive load.

  • Fly ash is the unburned residue resulting from the combustion of coal in utility and industrial boilers such as thermal power plants. Annually about 5 million tons of fly ash is being produced in korea. Less than 25 percent of total volume of fly ash is currently being used effectively for some ways. In the future, the volume of fly ash discharge from thermal power stations will be increasing more and more, and the development of the utilization of high volume fly ash is required. Fly ash has a lower compacted density and specific gravity than coarse grained natural aggregates but equivalent strength properties indicating that the fly ash could be used as a structural fill materials. So, clay-fly ash mixtures can be used as a fill material in the construction of embankments. Laboratory tests have been carried out to determine the physical, chemical, and geotechnical characteristics of the clay and fly ash. The fly ash is mixed with the clay in different proportions and the geotechnical characteristics of the mixtures have been studied also. In this study describes the results of the experimental study. The implications of the use of clay and clay-fly ash mixtures on the stability of embankments are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the capability to use with cement admixture materials because Paper Sludge Ash consists of Si, Ca and Al which are chief content in Pozzolan. For the derivation of Pozzolanic reaction in Paper Sludge Ash, it is measured compressive strength on cement mortar which is replaced mixing of Paper Sludge Ash and inorganic admixture ; ie, gypsum, lime and slaked lime, regularly. In the result of test, the strength decrease remarkably when cement is only replaced with Paper Sludge Ash, but the strength is almost equal when cement is replaced with Paper Sludge Ash is mixed with inorganic admixture material in proportions of 5~15%. Consequently, It is possible to use Paper Sluge Ash with admixture materials of cement.

  • Current international concerns are the energy crisis due to climate change and depletion of fossil fuels due to global warming. Korea has a very high dependency on energy imports 93%. In Korea, 63% of the country is forested, and a power plant using wood biomass is being built in Korea. Biomass fly ash, a by-product of biomass energy generation, is now being discarded. There is little research to utilize discarded biomass fly ash. Therefore, this study aims to solve the environmental problems, develop new mixed materials, improve the quality and utilize the biomass fly ash, which is a by-product of the industrial waste. As a result of the experiment, the flowability decreased as the replacement ratio of biomass fly ash increased. As the replacement ratio of biomass fly ash decreased, the amount of air content.

  • Reportedly, the use of mineral admixtures make concrete more durable and tighten against water. But, it is needed to study more about the relationship between the admixtures and the chloride ion diffusion. When concrete is mixed with fly-ash, pozzolanic reaction occur to time. So we should consider the factors that can evaluate inner structure of concrete in order to evaluate the chloride diffusion of the concrete more accurately. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed the correlation between chloride ion diffusion and physical properties such as compressive strength, void ratio, air permeability of the concrete, and tried to use them as fundamental data for analyzing chloride ion diffusion mechanism of the concrete mixed with fly-ash.
