  • Anti-diabetic effect was observed with Thespesia lampas Dalz & Gibs (Family: Malvaceae) when given as a root extract in normal as well as alloxan induced diabetic rats. The effects, however, were more pronounced in diabetic animals in which administration of plant extract for 15 days after alloxan induced diabetes, significantly reduced blood glucose levels. After alloxan induced diabetes it was observed that both standard drug (glibenclamide) and aqueous extract of Thespesia lampas were significantly superior to control in reducing blood sugar on long term treatment (15 days). The aqueous extract of T. lampas (300 and 600 mg/kg) reduced the blood glucose levels from $349.2{\pm}7.2$ to $120.7{\pm}4.6$ and $346.3{\pm}3.4$ to $101.8{\pm}6.3$, respectively. The data suggested that T. lampas could be of beneficial in diabetes mellitus in controlling blood sugar. The present investigation established pharmacological evidence to support the folklore claim as an anti-diabetic.

  • The Satellite Operation System (SOS) has been developed for a low earth orbiting remote sensing satellite, Korea Multipurpose Satellite-I, to monitor and control the spacecraft as well as to perform the mission operation. SOS was designed to operate on UNIX in the HP workstations. In the design of SOS, flexibility, reliability, expandability and interoperability were the main objectives. In order to achieve these objectives, a CASE tool, a database management system, consultative committee for space data systems recommendation, and a real-time distributed processing middle-ware have been integrated into the system. A database driven structure was adopted as the baseline architecture for a generic machine-independent, mission specific database. Also a logical address based inter-process communication scheme was introduced for a distributed allocation of the network resources. Specifically, a hotstandby redundancy scheme was highlighted in the design seeking for higher system reliability and uninterrupted service required in a real-time fashion during the satellite passes. Through various tests, SOS had been verified its functional, performance, and inter-face requirements. Design, implementation, and testing of the SOS for KOMPSAT-I is presented in this paper.

  • Quick evaluations of two in-plane orbit maneuvers using small see of real-time CPS navigation solutions were peformed lot the KOMPSAT-1 spacecraft operation. Real-time GPS navigation solutions of the KOMPSAT-1 were collected during the Korean Ground Station(KGS) pass. Only a few sets of position and velocity data after completion of the thruster firing were used for the quick maneuver evaluations. The results were used for antenna pointing data predictions for the next station contact. Normal orbit maneuver evaluations using large see of playback GPS navigation solutions were also performed and the result were compared with the quick evaluation results.

  • Active and shape morphing aerospace structures are discussed with a focus on activities aimed at practical implementation. In active structures applications range from dynamic load alleviation in aircraft and spacecraft up to static and dynamic shape control. In contrast, shape morphing means strong shape variation according to different mission status and needs, aiming to enhance functionality and performance over wide flight and mission regimes. The interaction of required flexible materials with the morphing structure and the actuating mechanisms is specifically addressed together with approaches in design and simulation.

  • To obtain the requirements of capability and analyze mission loads for weapon systems which are in process of development, Operational Mode Summary/Mission Profile(OMS/MP) should be documented in advance. In this paper, we have proposed a systematic and practical OMS/MP model processes of a weapon mounted combat vehicle for analyzing power and energy strategy. The wartime and peacetime OMS/MP of a hybrid wheeled combat vehicle which is mounted with an anti-tank guided weapon(ATGW) is also presented as its application.

  • The paper describes a new approach to the organization of an artificial brain for mobile multi-robot systems, where individual robots are not considered as independent entities, but rather forming together a universal parallel and distributed machine capable of processing both information and physical matter in distributed worlds. This spatial machine, operating without any central control, is driven on top by distributed mission scenarios in WAVE-WP language. The scenarios can be written on a variety of levels, and any mixture of them, supporting the needed system flexibility and freedom ...

  • This paper considers the problem of satellite's orbit control and a solution based in Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI) is proposed for the case of Low Earth Orbiters (LEO). In particular, the modelling procedure and the algorithm for control law synthesis are tested using as study case the European Gravity Field and Ocean Circulation Explorer satellite (GOCE), to be launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) in the year 2006. The scientific objective of this space mission is the recovering of the Earth gravity field with high accuracy (less than 10${\mu}m$/${\mu}m$) and spatial resolution (better than 100km). In order to meet these scientific requirements, the orbit control must guarantee stringent specifications in terms of environmental disturbances attenuation (atmospheric drag forces) even in presence of high levels of model uncertainty.

  • UAVs(Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) have many applications in military and commercial areas. The flight control system of UAVs is more important than manned aircraft's because the mission of UAVs must be operated without a human pilot. But very heavy and expensive navigation system makes it difficult to develop UAV flight control system. In this research, GPS/IMU integrated navigation filter was developed for light weight/low cost flight control system of small UAVs. With this navigation filter, full flight control system which has real time operating capability has been developed. The performance of the flight control system is basically checked by HILSIM (Hardware In the Loop SIMulation). Finally, the flight control system is verified by showing performance test result under real flight environment.

  • In the aerospace field, the study on a morphing-wing is in progress to improve flight performance and perform multi flight mission. There are many concepts of morphing-wing such as camber-change, wing-twist, variable-span, and so on. In this study, the aerodynamic characteristics and flight control of an air vehicle with a variable-span morphing wing (VSMW) have been investigated. VSMW with symmetric span control(SSC) can increase cruising range of aircraft by reducing drag in various flight condition. VSMW with anti-symmetric span control(ASSC) can be used in the roll control of an aircraft. The flight control about pure rolling dynamic system and full dynamic system have been performed about the cruise missile.
