  • Change of protein component in soybean sprout grown at four temperatures was investigated by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Main bands were identified using purified seed globulins. Electrophoretogram showed 5 main bands (a. b, c, d, and p) and 10 minor bands in seed and maximum number (19) of bands (8 main band including 0 and 11 minor) at 4th day after germination in cotyledon. All bands appeared in axis protein but resolution was poor. In cotyledon, a component (most rapidly) and b+c+d component decreased while o+p component and other minor components were increased at 6th day and decreased thereafter. In axis all components increased rapidly, especially in minor components and b+c+d component. High growing temperature accelerated decrease in cotyledon and increase in axis of protein, especially for 11S. The a component was identified as 7S, b+c+d as 11S and o+p as 2S globulin.

  • This study deals with the traffic accident of arterial link sections in the case of Cheongju. The purpose of the study is to develop the traffic accident model by the function of arterial links. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attentions to developing the appropriate models using the accident data of main and minor arterial roads divided by 472 small link sections. The main results analyzed are as follows. First, as the t test on the accident characteristics of main and minor arterial roads shows that there are differences in the number of accident and EPDO(equivalent property damage only) between two roads, the development of models by function is analyzed to be appropriate. Second, it is analyzed that ZINB models are all statistically suitable to the number of accident and EPDO of main arterial roads. Third, the analysis shows that EPDOs of minor arterial roads fit to ZINB, and the number of the accident fit to ZIP model. Finally, the common variables of main arterial roads are evaluated to be the traffic volume and the number of inflection point, and those of minor be the average grade.

  • Three possible binding modes of cationic meso-tetrakis(N-methylpyridinium-4-yl)porphyrin (TMPyP) to d[(GCATATATGC)2] duplex were investigated by the molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. Among the three binding modes namely, “along the groove”, “across the groove” and “face on the groove”, the “across the groove” model exhibited the largest negative binding free energy and the DNA backbone remained as the B form. In this model, the molecular plain of the TMPyP tilts 45o with respect to the DNA helix axis and is largely exposed to the solvent. TMPyP was stabilized mainly by the interaction between the positively charged neighboring pyridinium moieties of TMPyP and negatively charged phosphate groups of DNA. The result obtained in this work by MD and the report (Jin, B. et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2005, 127, 2417.) that the spectral properties of poly[d(A-T)2] bound TMPyP in the presence and absence of the minor groove binding drug 4',6- diamidino-2-phenylindole are similar, we propose that TMPyP bind across the minor groove of the AT rich- DNA.

  • The aim of this study was to determine the effects of tote bag weight on muscle thickness of pectroalis minor and tone of upper trapezius in young adult women. 27 women habitual of carrying tote bags. The subjects were measured the tone of the upper trapezius muscle and the thickness of the pectoralis minor muscle while carrying tote bags with the weight of 0%, 5%, 7.5% and 10% of the subjects' body weight. As the weight load increased, the upper trapezius muscle demonstrated significantly increased muscle tone (p<.05). additionally, a significantly increased thickness in the pectoralis minor muscle was noted(p<.05). These findings suggest that the habit of carrying a tote bag on the wrist may be disadvantageous to improving the two muscles in young women. Therefore, this study recommend women who likely used tote bag decrease the weight of the bag.

  • This study is carried out to critically explore the direction of the improvement of the protection clauses of minor artists which is the core of Popular Culture Art Industrial Development Act enforced from July 29, 2014. The analysis shows that the law accepted the social issues such as the prevention of procuring minor prostitution, slave contracts(unfair long-term contracts), and third party's profit-extortion. However, the law missing or not specifically stated about age-based differential enforcement of work hours, dangerous acting scenes shouldn't be forced to minors, right to sleep, health, and study, as well as the penalty regulations in violation of each clause. Consequently, the Act's revision and supplementation is necessary to fully meet above insufficiencies referring to foreign practices.

  • In order to generate the gray scale image by the binary state imaging devices such as a digital printer, the gray scale image needs to be converted into the binary image by the halftoning techniques. This paper presents a new error diffusion technique to achieve the homogeneous dot distributions on the binary images. In this paper,'the minimum pixel distance'from the current pixel under binarization to the nearest minor pixel is defined first. Also, the gray levels of the input image are converted into a new variable based on the principal distance for the error diffusion. In the proposed method, the difference in the principal distances is utilized for the error propagation, whereas the gray level difference due to the binarization is diffused to the neighboring pixels in the existing error diffusion techniques. The quantization is accomplished by comparing the updated principal distance with the minimum pixel distance. In order to calculate the minimum pixel distance, MPOA(Minor Pixel Offset Array) is employed to reduce the computational loads and memory resources.

  • The oxazole plays an important role in the binding of lexitropsin to the guanine-cytosine base pair from minor groove of DNA. The geometry optimization is performed with DFT calculations for the two possible conformations of the protonated oxazole. The proton affinities are calculated at B3LYP level of theory with 6-31G* basis set for the optimized geometry. It is found that the proton affinites of the conformations in which the oxazole nitrogen is the protonation center are greater than that of the conformations in which the oxazole oxygen is the protonation center. This result is in good agreement with molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) contour map. The proton affinities are also studied for various substituted oxazoles with the electron-donating and -withdrawing groups to estimate substitutent effect on the proton affinity at the hydrogen bonding site of the oxazoles. it is shown that the electron-donating substituents increase the proton affinity of oxazole, while the electron-withdrawing substituents decrease it.

  • A taxonomic study of Viola section Chamaemelanium in Korea, based on morphological characters, was conducted with light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Two species, V. orientalis W. Becker and V. brevistipulata (Fr. et Sav.) W. Becker, are recognized by rhizome and cauline habits, trichomes on the ovary and the shape and beards of stigmas. The latter can be split further into three varieties, var. brevistipulata, var. minor Nakai and var. laciniata (Boiss.) W. Becker, according to the leaf morphology in particular. Viola brevistipulata var. laciniata has the most tooth number, and its teeth are irregular erose but the other two varieties are regular sinuate or serrate. As for the size of leaves, V. brevistipular var. brevistipulata is the largest but V. brevistipulata var. minor is the smallest among the varities. Of them, V. brevistipulata var. laciniata is newly recorded in Korea. It was also revealed that both development and arrangement of the beards developed on the ovary and stigma were particularly diagnostic in the identification of the Viola section Chamaemelanium species.

  • Purpose: This study examines errors in death certificates (DCs) issued to cases of poisoning. Methods: DCs issued in poisoning cases were retrospectively reviewed. Errors in the DC were classified as major and minor errors, and were evaluated in accordance with their impact on the process of selecting the cause of death (COD). Results: A total of 79 DCs were evaluated; 43 (54.4%) DCs were issued in the emergency department (ED), and 36 (45.6%) DCs were issued outside the ED. The average major and minor errors per DC were determined to be 0.4 and 3.3, respectively. Moreover, an average of 3.0 errors were discovered in DCs issued at the ED, and 4.4 errors in DCs issued outside the ED. The most common major errors were incorrect manner of death (11.4%, 9/79), followed by unacceptable COD (7.6%, 6/79), and the mode of dying as an underlying COD (5.1%, 4/79). The common minor errors most frequently encountered were incorrect time interval (86.1%, 68/79), followed by incorrect other significant conditions (73.4%, 58/79), and no record for date of onset (62.0%, 49/79). Conclusion: Our results indicate that the total numbers of major errors, minor errors and cases of misjudged cause of death were greater in DCs issued outside the ED than in DCs issued at the ED. The most frequently quoted major error of DCs related to poisoning was determined to be the incorrect manner of death.
