  • The pH of containment spray and sump water following a LOCA for KNU 5'||'&'||'6 and KNU 1 was calculated to see if pH design criteria of containment spray system established by USNRC were met. The pH calculations have been made for the two cases; maximum pH and minimum pH. For KNU 5'||'&'||'6, results showed that long term sump pH values calculated for the maximum pH and minimum pH case well met the pH requirement of at least 8.5 and spray pH for the maximum case slightly exceeded the range of design criteria (8.5 to 11.0). For KNU 1, pH requirement of long term sump pH was also met, however, spray pH value for the maximum pH case was very largely greater than that of current pH requirement. (No pH requirement of containment spray water has been established at the time of designing KNU 1) In order to find the design parameters of containment spray system which are expected to meet the spray pH requirement, several calculations were wade, by changing the input parameters to "LCCAPH". Finally, it was shown that the boric acid concentration in RWST (refueling water storage tank), which was the primary sources of containment spray water during injection mode, be maintained the range of 2750 ppm to 2850 ppm, or tile flow rate of NaOH added to spray water he kept between 10 gpm to 24 gpm.

  • In the design of reinforced concrete (RC) beams, apart from providing adequate strength, it is also necessary to provide a minimum deformability even for beams not located in seismic regions. In most RC design codes, this is achieved by restricting the maximum tension steel ratio or neutral axis depth. However, this empirical deemed-to-satisfy method, which was developed based on beams made of normal-strength concrete (NSC) and normal-strength steel (NSS), would not provide a consistent deformability to beams made of high-strength concrete (HSC) and/or high-strength steel (HSS). More critically, HSC beams would have much lower deformability than that provided previously to NSC beams. To ensure that a consistent deformability is provided to all RC beams, it is proposed herein to set an absolute minimum rotation capacity to all RC beams in the design. Based on this requirement, the respective maximum limits of tension steel ratio and neutral axis depth for different concrete and steel yield strengths are derived based on a formula developed by the authors. Finally for incorporation into design codes, simplified guidelines for designing RC beams having the proposed minimum deformability are developed.

  • In general, the realization of spaceborne system is constrained by its space environment. In this paper, we suggest chirp stitching technique which generates and processes wideband radar signal with minimum hardware, design and implement transmit/receive equipments and operating programs to satisfy the requirement of this spaceborne high resolution SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar). We apply the top down design approach to this system, and divide hardware into equipment, module and circuit levels, and software into SR(Software Requirement), AD(Architecture Design), DD(Detailed Design) and coding levels, and then extract each requirement to satisfy the wideband requirement of this spaceborne high resolution SAR. We, at first, test the hardware functions, confirm the wideband handling capability of this system with 85MHz wideband signals generated from two 42.5MHz narrow band signals, and show that this system can be used in spaceborne high resolution SARs.

  • Crushed sand is made by crushing the rocks artificially. With a wide shortage of natural river sand all over the region in Korea, demand for crushed sand are becoming increased. However, Informations as to crushed sand are insufficient. In this paper, the actual conditions of crushed sand related to producing and quality variation are investigated. 29 manufacturing company of crushed sand are reviewed. According to results, density of most crushed sand tested exceeded 2.5g/cm3, and absorption ratio meet the requirement of KS except one sample. For grain properties, passing amount of 0.08mm sieve satisfied the requirement of KS except one sample. Grain distribution of most crushed sand is estimated $54.26\%$. But 6 crushed sand sample did not meet the requirement of KS. Fineness modulus and grading are varied from manufacturing region. 18 samples of crushed sand among 29 samples deviated the minimum level of standard grading range by KS. Therefore, improvement of grain properties of crushed sand is urgently needed to manufacture better crushed sand.

  • An oscillating digger mechanism was designed, constructed. and tested. The mechanism is consisted of a six-bar linkage, one four-bar linkage was fer the digger blade and the other one fur variable soil-crop separation. Experimental variables were amplitude(3, 6, 9 mm). frequency(11.2, 14.9. 17.0 Hz), and forward speed of tractor(0.91, 1.13, 1.56 km/h). Each combination of these variables was replicated three times to measure the draft and torque for power requirement evaluation. and the broken-up soil height on the soil separation sieve mechanism. Four parameters λ(the ratio of vibration speed to forward velocity), p(the ratio of vibration acceleration to forward velocity), K(the ratio of vibration acceleration to gravitational acceleration), and T(the product of λ and K) were induced from three experimental variables: amplitude, frequency, and tractor speed. And the power requirement and soil separation ability were analyzed by regression. Though λ and K were known to be the representative parameters. T was the most moderate one to explain draft. torque. and soil separation in this study. It was estimated that the T equal to or greater than 2.4 was the minimum recommended value. Figure 18 would be useful fir the selection of amplitude. frequency, or operating tractor speed once any two variables are known.

  • Current design codes regulate the minimum torsional reinforcement requirement for reinforced concrete members to prevent their brittle failure. The minimum torsional reinforcement ratio specified in the current national code and ACI318-11, however, have problems in the minimum longitudinal reinforcement ratio for torsion, the equilibrium condition in space truss model, and a marginal strength, etc. Thus, in order to overcome such shortcomings, this study presents a rational equation for minimum torsional reinforcement ratio that can provide a sufficient margin of safety in design. The minimum torsional reinforcement ratio proposed in this study was compared to the test results available in literature, and it was confirmed that it gave a proper margin of safety for all specimens studied in this paper.

  • Ethernet ring protection is a new technology introduced in ITU-T Recommendation G.8032, which utilizes the generic Ethernet MAC functions. We introduce an alternative enhanced protection switching scheme to suppress penalty in the switching transient, in which the Ethernet MAC filtering database (FDB) is actively and directly modified by information disseminated from the nodes adjacent to failure. The modified FDB at all nodes are guaranteed to be consistent to form a complete new ring network topology immediately. This scheme can reduce the capacity requirement of the G.8032 by several times. This proposed scheme can be also applied in IP protection rings.

  • An efficient Gauss-Seidel time integration scheme is developed for solving the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations on unstructured meshes. Roe's FDS is used for the explicit residual computations and van Leer's FVS for evaluating implicit flux Jacobian. To reduce the memory requirement to a minimum level, off-diagonal flux Jacobian contributions are repeatedly calculated during the Gauss-Seidel sub-iteration process. Computational results based on the present scheme show that approximately $15\%$ of CPU time reduction is achieved while maintaining the memory requirement level to $50-60\%$ of the original Gauss-Seidel scheme.

  • Fine pitch microprobe arrays are microneedle-like probes for inspecting the pixel of LCD panel. They are usually made of multilayers of metallic, nonmetallic, or combination of the two. In this study, the microprobe arrays were fabricated using the process applied for MEMS fabrication technology and they consist of BeCu, BeNi, or Si. Their contacting probing force and deflection were measured using the laser equipment. The design requirement are 5gf of a minimum contact force and $150{\mu}m$ of a maximum deflection. A lot of microprobe shape are possible satisfying the requirement. A double cantilever-type microprobe having needles on both ends were applied for this study. Several candidate were chosen using the topology and shape optimization technique subjected to the design requirements. Finite element results and experimental results were compared and both gave good correlation.

  • The requirement to safe and economical buildings caused to the exploitation of nonlinear capacity structures and optimization of them. This requirement leads to forming seismic design method based on performance. In this study, concentrically braced frames (CBFs) have been optimized at the immediate occupancy (IO) and collapse prevention (CP) levels. Minimizing structural weight is taken as objective function subjected to performance constraints on inter-story drift ratios at various performance levels. In order to evaluate the seismic capacity of the CBFs, pushover analysis is conducted, and the process of optimization has been done by using Bee Algorithm. Results indicate that performance based design caused to have minimum structural weight and due to increase capacity of CBFs.
