Mechanical properties, including Young's modulus, residual stress and rupture strength, of a thermally evaporated gold film have been measured form a blister test. In a theoretical study, the priniple of minimum potential energy and that of virtual work have been applied to the pressurized circular membrane problem, and load-deflection relations have been derived for typical membrane deflection mode of spheroidal shape. In an experimental study, circular gold membranes of 4800 A-thickness and 3.5mm diameter were fabricated by the silicon electropolishing technique. Mecahnical properties of the thin gold films were deduced from the load-deflection curves obtained by the blister test, Young's moduli, obtianed from blister test, have been in the range of 45-70 GPa, while those of bulk gold have been in the range of 78-80 GPa. Residual stresses in the evaporated gold films have been measured as 28-110MPa in tension, The rupture strength of the gold film has turned out to be almost equal to that of dental gold alloy (310-380MPa). It has been demonstrated that the present specimen fabrication method and blister test apparatus have been effective for simultaneous measurement of Young's modulus, residual stress and repture strength of thin solid films. Especially, the electropolishing technique employed here has provided a simple and practical way to fabricate thin membranes in a circular or an arbitrary shape, which could not be obtained by the conventional anisotropic silicon mecromachining technique.
In this work we deposited Pentacene thin film by OMBD at the various substrate temperatures, deposition rate and the various annealing temperatures for the fabrication of organic TFT and investigated the electrical and film surface characteristics such as sheet resistance, contact resistance and conductance Film thickness were measured by $\alpha$-step and the sheet resistance, contact resistance and conductance were extracted from the relation between the distance of the contacts and the resistance. During the film deposition the substrate temperature was held at 3$0^{\circ}C$, 4$0^{\circ}C$, 5$0^{\circ}C$, 6$0^{\circ}C$, 8$0^{\circ}C$ and 10$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. After the film deposition, Au contact was deposited by thermal evaporation. For the effect of annealing, the thin film was annealed in the nitrogen environment at 10$0^{\circ}C$ and 14$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 seconds, respectively. Film surface characteristics at the vatious substrate temperatures were measured by AFM. The crystallization of thin film was improved as the substrate temperatures were increased and the maximum gram size was 4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The conductivity of thin film was found to be 7.40 $\times$10$^{-7}$ ~ 7.78$\times$10$^{-6}$ S/cm and the minimum contact resistance was 2.5324 ㏁.
A mathematical model was proposed to analyze the damped motion of contact lens which is initially displaced from the equilibrium position. The model incorporates the differential equations and their numerical solution program, based on the formulations of restoring force arising from the capillary action in the tear-film layer between the lens and cornea. The model predicts the capillary action induced surface tension, time dependence of displacement of lens when it is released from the equilibrium position. It seems that the motion of lens is similar to the typical over-damped oscillation caused by the large viscous friction in the liquid layer between the cornea and lens. The effect of variables such as base curves, lens diameters and thickness of tear film layer were illustrated by the computer simulation of the derived program. The time required for the lens to return to the original position increases as the liquid layer thickness increases and it decreases as the diameter of lens increases. With the certain value of base curve the time interval is found to be minimum. The free vibrations of lenses were also simulated varying the parameters such as base curve, diameter, layer thickness. The resonant frequencies are inversely proportional to the liquid layer thickness and it increases as the lens diameter increases. The resonant frequency of lens has a maximum when the diameter is of certain value. If the external impulse or force of the same frequency as the natural frequency of contact lens acted on the cornea in vivo it may cause an excessive movement and thus it might cause the distortion 10 the lens or be pulled off the eye.

This paper uses a multiplex deposition sputter system and aims to improve transmittance and reduce production costs by depositing a CdS thin film on an ITO glass substrate. When manufacturing CdS thin films, we wanted to find excellent conditions when manufacturing solar cells by changing heat treatment time. It was observed that thickness and sheet resistance were not significantly different depending on heat treatment time changes. The specific resistance was measured from a minimum of 6.68 to a maximum of 6.98. When the heat treatment time was more than 20 minutes, the transmittance was measured to be more than 75%. When the heat treatment time was 10 minutes, the bandgap was 3.665 eV and more than 20 minutes was 3.713 eV, which was measured as the same result. The XRD analysis showed that the structure of CdS was hexagonal and only CdS thin films were deposited without any other impurities. The result of calculating the FWHM was a maximum of 0.142 when the heat treatment time was 20 minutes, and a minimum of 0.133 when the heat treatment time was 40 minutes, so there was no significant difference in the FWHM when the heat treatment time was changed. The particle size was measured at 11.65 Å when the heat treatment time was 40 minutes, and at 10.93 Å when the heat treatment time was 20 minutes.

This paper describes an integrity evaluation method for emergency diesel generator(EDG) and rotor part of EDG. EDG is a very important equipment in the nuclear power plant(NPP). EDG supplies electricity to the safety-related equipments for the safety shut down of NPP in an emergency situation of earthquake. The safety of the rotor part of EDG is also important during seismic impact from earthquake. The finite element modelling of the EDG including rotor part was constructed. The modal analysis of EDG was firstly performed. The first natural frequency was calculated and revealed higher than the cutoff frequency of seismic spectrum. Then the stress analysis was done to compare with the allowable stress. The safety of the rotor part was investigated by the finite element analysis of the rotor and journal bearing interaction to find film thickness and critical speed. The seismic load was applied to rotor part in a manner that the load was a weighted static load. Analysis results showed that the maximum stress was within the range of allowable stress and the film thickness is larger than the permissible minimum thickness, and the critical speed was out of the operating speed. Hence, the structural and dynamic integrity of EDG could be confirmed by the numerical analysis method used in this paper. However, dynamic analysis of a rotating rotor and supporting bearing with the seismic impact needs to be investigated in a more rigorous method since the seismic load to the rotating part complicates the behavior of rotating system.

The demand for a low dispersion lens with a small refractive index and a high refractive index is increasing, and accordingly, there is an increasing need for a releasable protective film with high heat resistance and abrasion resistance. On the other hand, the optical industry has not yet established a clear standard for the manufacturing process and quality standards for mold-releasing protective films used in aspheric glass lens molding. Optical lens manufacturers treat this technology as proprietary information. In this study, an experiment was conducted regarding the optimization of ion etching, magnetron, and arc current at each source and filter part, and bias voltage in FCVA (filtered cathode vacuum arc)-based Ta-C thin film coatings. This study found that compared to iridium-rhenium alloy thin film sputtering products, the coating conditions were improved by approximately 50%, 20%, and 40% in terms of thickness, hardness, and adhesive strength of the film, respectively. The thin-film coating process proposed in this study is expected to contribute significantly to the development and utilization of glass lenses, which will help enhance the minimum mechanical properties and quality of the mold-release thin film layer required for glass mold surface forming technology.

The fluid mechanics and operating conditions of gas-lubricated proceeding bearings in micro rotating machinery such as micro polarization modulator and micro gas turbine are different from their larger size ones. Due to non-continuum effects, there is a slip of gas at the walls. Thus in this paper, the slip flow effect is considered to estimate the pressure distribution and load-carrying capacity of micro gas-lubricated proceeding bearings as the local Knudsen number at the minimum film thickness is greater than 0.01. Based on the compressible Reynolds equation with slip flow, the static characteristics of micro gas-lubricated proceeding bearings are obtained. Numerical predictions compare the pressure distribution and load capacity considering slip flow with the performance of micro proceeding bearings without slip f]ow for a range of bearing numbers and eccentricities. The results clearly show that the slip flow effect on the static characteristics is considerable and becomes more significant as temperature increases.
In this study, a three-pad gas foil journal bearing with a diameter of 40 mm and an axial length of 35 mm was modeled to predict the static and dynamic performances with regard to an increasing mechanical preload. The Reynolds equation for an isothermal and isoviscous ideal gas was coupled with a simple elastic foundation foil model to calculate the hydrodynamic pressure solution iteratively. In the prediction results, the journal eccentricity, journal attitude angle, and minimum film thickness decreased, but the friction torque increased with the preload. A quick comparison implied a lower load capacity but higher stability for a three-pad gas foil bearing compared to a one-pad gas foil journal bearing. The direct stiffness coefficients increased with the preload, but the cross-coupled stiffness coefficients decreased. The direct damping coefficient increased in the horizontal direction but decreased in the vertical direction as the preload increased. These model predictions will be useful as a benchmark against experimental test data.
This is a report on the fabrication of a flexible OTFT backplane for electrophoretic display (EPD) using a printing technology. A practical printing technology for a polycarbonate substrate was developed by combining the conventional screen and inkjet printing technologies with the wet etching and oxygen plasma processes. For the gate electrode, the screen printing technology with Ag ink was developed to define the minimum line width of ${\sim}5{\mu}m$ and the thickness of ${\sim}70nm$ with the resistivity of ${\sim}10^{-6}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, which are suitable for displays with SVGA resolution. For the source and drain (S/D) electrodes, PEDOT:PSS, whose conductivity was drastically enhanced to 450 S/cm by adding 10 wt% glycerol, was adopted. In addition, the modified PEDOT:PSS could be neatly confined in the specific S/D electrode area that had been pretreated with oxygen. The OTFTs that made use of the developed printing technology produced a mobility of ${\sim}0.13cm^2/Vs.ec$ and an on/off current ratio of ${\sim}10^6$, which are comparable to those using thermally evaporated Au for the S/D electrode.
The application of reciprocating engine crankshaft bearings is of particular importance and interest among the plain bearing, not only because the sheer volume of intemal combustion engines now produced, but because the severe operating conditions they are subjected to. Demands for better performances of crankshaft bearings have provide an important impetus in the development of bearings and bearing materials. As engine design progresses toward higher outpt and higher efficiency, crankshaft bearings must perform under more seveve operating conditions. Higher load, temperature, and speed as well as lower viscosity oil are applied to the bearing sysem, resulting in a smaller minimum oil film thickness. This means more solid-solid contact between the shaft and bearing, and the bearing is exposed to more danger of seizure. Some engines may experience bearing seizure problems. However, understanding about the seizure behavior and mechanism is far from being enough. Seizure resistance of a bearing-shaft system will be affected by the properties of the shaft and bearing, especially their materials and surface texture. Commonly used engine bearing materials include Al-Pb-Si, Al-Sn-Si, Al-Sn, and Cu-Pb with Pb-Sn-Cu overlay. These materials have very different properties. They showed different behaviors dering seizure tests and seizure may occur with different mechanism for different bearing material. Shaft materials also affect the seizure resistance of the system. Surface texture of the bearing and shaft have apparent effects on the lubrication and solid-solid contact pattern, and therefore will affect the seizure behavior of the system. Bearings and shafts which are made of different materials and have different surface textures have been tested and analyzed. Their effects on seizure resistance are discussed and possible seizure mechanisms for different beatings are presented in this paper.
