This paper presents a new operation scheme of UPFC to minimize both generation costs and active power losses in a normal operation state of power system. In a normal operation, cost minimization is a matter of primary concern among operating objectives. This paper considers two kinds of costs, generation costs and transmission losses. The total generation cost of active powers can be minimized by optimal power flow, and active power losses in the transmission system can be also minimized by power flow control of UPFC incorporated with minimization of generation costs. In order to determine amounts of active power reference of each UPFC required for the cost minimization, an iterative optimization algorithm based on the power flow calculation using the decoupled UPFC model is proposed. For verification of the proposed method, intensive studies have been performed on a 3-unit 6-bus system equipped with a UPFC.
Detent force of a permanent magnet linear motor(PMLSM) consist of cogging and drag forces, and should be minimized for high precision control purpose applications. This paper shows that the cogging force can be reduced effectively by employing 9 pole 10 slot structure. The drag force is minimized by optimizing the total length and shape of the exterior teeth of armature core simultaneously by using($1+{\lambda}$) evolution strategy coupled with response surface method. After optimization, the optimized PMLSM is proven to reduce 95% and 92.6% of the cogging and total detent forces, respectively, and give 12% and 6.4% higher Back-emf and thrust force, respectively, compared with a conventional 12 pole 9 slot structure under the same condition. Additionally, Simulation results by the proposed optimum design are verified by the experiment results.
Linear Programming(LP) is the term used for defining a wide range of optimization problems in which the objective function to be minimized or maximized is linear in the unknown variables and the constraints are a combination of linear equalities and inequalities. LP problems occur in many real-life economic situations where profits are to be maximized or costs minimized with constraint limits on resources. While the simplex method introduced in a later reference can be used for hand solution of LP problems, computer use becomes necessary even for a small number of variables. Problems involving diet decisions, transportation, production and manufacturing, product mix, engineering limit analysis in design, airline scheduling, and so on are solved using computers. This technique is called Sequential Linear Programming (SLP). This paper describes LP's problems and solves a LP's problems using the neural networks.
This paper gives a method for the minimization of the fuel cost by optimal generation. Derivation of the sensitivity of system loss by optimization technique is introduced and the loss sensitivities are substituted into the optimality conditions to obtain the minimized fuel cost.
The purpose of this study was to minimize of entrance surface dose (ESD) at the eye using high kVp technique in the computed radiography. We used REX-650R (Listem, Korea) general X-ray unit, and external detector with ESD dosimeter of Piranha 657 (RTI Electronics, Sweden). We used head of the whole body phantom. The total 64 images of X-ray anterior-posterior of skull were acquired using the film/screen (F/S) method and the digital of computed radiography method. The three radiology professor of more 10 years of clinical career evaluated a X-rays images in the same space by 5-point scale. The external detector was performed measurement of ESD of three times by same condition on the eye of the head phantom. The good image quality in the F/S method (90 kVp, 2.5 mAs) showed at the minimized ESD of 0.310 ${\pm}$ 0.001 mGy. the good image quality in the computed radiography method (90 kVp, 2.0 mAs) showed at the minimized ESD of 0.180 ${\pm}$ 0.002 mGy (P = 0.002). Finally the radiation dose could reduced about 50% in the computed radiography method more than the F/S method. In addition the eye entrance surface dose using high kVp technique with the computed radiography was reduced 92% more than conventional technique (F/S method).
Structural design of the torsion beam rear suspension is investigated by calculating warping of the torsion beam. Since the longitudinal displacement in the cross section of the torsion beam due to torsional moment causes normal stress across the beam restrained from outside at both ends, the profile of torsion beam needs to be designed considering the warping. Warping function of the beam is derived with the parameters of cross section fur the arbitrary shapes of torsion beam profiles assuming thin-walled open section. From comparing the warping calculated for two different beam profiles, the design method for the torsion beam in the view point of low stress is discussed. It is shown that the gusset used to reinforce the torsion beam can be optimized in accordance with warping shape. The method to fix the end point of the gusset is proposed to minimize the stress concentrated on the end point of the gusset produced during torsional moment. The result from finite element analysis shows the stress is minimized when the height of gusset end point is coincident with the point where warping of the beam is minimized.
This paper introduces the structural design optimization of a high speed machining center using multi-step optimization combined with G.A.(Genetic Algorithm) and Weighted Method. In this case, the design problem is to find out the best design variables which minimize the static compliance, the dynamic compliance, and the weight of the machine structure simultaneously. Dimensional thicknesses of the thirteen structural members of the machine structure are adopted as design variables. The first step is the cross-section configuration optimization, in which the area moment of inertia of the cross-section for each structural member is maximized while its area is kept constant The second step is a static design optimization, In which the static compliance and the weight of the machine structure are minimized under some dimensional and safety constraints. The third step IS a dynamic design optimization, where the dynamic compliance and the structure weight are minimized under the same constraints. After optunization, static and dynamic compliances were reduced to 62.3% and 95.7% Eorn the initial design, while the weight of the moving bodies are also in the feaslble range.
Testing high reliability devices under nomal operating condition is difficult, because the devices are not likely to fail in the relatively short time available for tests. For most applications it is necessary to accelerate the causes of failure by increasing a stress above its nomal value. Previous accelerated life test(ALT) plans have shown how to find optimum allocation, lowest stress and sample size subject to minimizing the variance of mean life estimator. In these ALT plans, the highest acceptable test-stress was assumed to be specified in advance by the experimenter but there is no guidance for selecting it. This assumption is, however, inappropriate for many applications. Testing devices at too-high stress levels can invalidate the extrapolation model, or introduce failure mechanisms that are not anticipated under nomal operating conditions. In this paper, we propose new 4:2:1 compromise plans using Min-Max method to minimize this risk and present minimized test-stress levels(max, middle, min), and find sample allocation based on Min-Max 4:2:1 compromise plans. In result, we compare previous 4:2:1 compromise plans specified maximum test-stress with Min-Max 4:2:1 compromise plans minimized maximum test-stress.
Strategic decisions related to the design of a physical distribution system can be classified into three basic components : facility location, transportation, inventory decisions. In this research the interdependence of those decisions are expressed in a mathematical model such that the total relevant cost of the system is minimized. We suggested a heuristic technique for solving the model. In broad terms, our solution technique combines a heuristic method for determining which candidate DCs to open and an exact method for minimizing costs given a set of open DCs. And we also developed a decision supporting package for the design of a physical distribution system.
An algorithm for estimating incident angles of multiple broaband signals is proposed. The method adopts semicausal model for two dimensional linear prediction filter coefficients such that the arithmatic averag of the mean squared values of the forward and reverse prediction arrors is minimized. Preliminary results demonstrating the performance of the proposed method are presented. Simulation results indicate that the performance depends on signal-to-noise ratio and prediction order in spatial demension.
