This study included empirical methods of study such as surveys and interviews with military hospital administrators from 14 military hospitals across the country. The results of the study is described below. First, results by demographic characteristics show that higher level of organizational commitment was found in males than females and in singles than married couples. Also, by organizational units, major units of military hospitals showed higher level of organizational commitment as well as job satisfaction. Second, Fair compensation had positive(+) effects on the study participants' job satisfaction and organizational commitment as the research hypothesized. Compensation included monetary and social benefits for the work performed. A transparent compensation system to reward members that performed the best for the department and the corps with appropriate amounts must be in place. Third, the organization culture of being considerate had positive(+) effects on job satisfaction and organizational commitment while the culture of giving commands had negative(-) effects. Fourth, Conflict factors had negative(-) effects on job satisfaction with no direct effect on organizational commitment. Any organization must take measures when adverse effects of conflicts surface. As shown by the analysis results, conflict factors bring negative results to job satisfaction and organizational commitments. Department managers should utilize the proper function of conflicts as an accelerator in organization operation.
Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effects of grit, nursing work environment, and job esteem on the intent to stay among military hospital nurses. Methods: This study employed a descriptive cross-sectional design. Data were collected from February 7 to 18, 2022 from 232 nurses working at four military hospitals under the Armed Forces Medical Command. The analysis was conducted using the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program, and descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson coefficient correlations, and multiple regression analysis were performed. Results: Factors affecting the intent to stay included job esteem (β=.44, p<.001), total clinical experience of more than 10 years (β=.24, p=.001), and nursing work environment (β=.17, p=.009). Conclusion: The results can be used to ensure personnel quality at military medical institutions and can contribute to improving patient safety and medical services. Further, nursing managers need to formulate and implement strategies to foster a positive nursing work environment.
Purpose: This study is to provide basic data for establishing successful organization management strategies of organizations by understanding rank systems and duty types of dental hygienists who work in dental hospitals. Methodology/Approach: The study conducted a survey and an interview survey two times targeting the entire dental hospitals. The first survey secured the response results of 113 hospitals in the result that conducted the survey targeting 190 dental hospitals in the whole country except 24 ones including dental college hospitals, dental hospitals affiliated with medical colleges or general hospitals, military dental hospitals, and dental hospitals for the disabled among the 214 ones which were registered in the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service as of December 2015. The second survey conducted the interview survey targeting persons in charge of personnel management by selecting 34 dental hospitals with rank systems of 4 rank systems and above. Finding: The dental hospital has found that dental hygienists-centered human resources were composed. The number of ranks has found that 1 to 6 levels are shown and level 3 is highest. Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate prevalence of psychiatric symptoms and determine predictors of emotional distress of military hospital surgical patients. Methods : This study examined 104 orthopedic patients admitted to the Armed Forces Military Hospital September-November 2018. For the study, every subject completed self-assessment inventories regarding depressive and anxiety symptoms (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), sleep problems (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index), problematic alcohol and tobacco use (Cut off, Annoyed, Guilty, Eye-opener screening), and psychiatric history. We performed the Student's t-test and the chi-square test for the collected data to investigate the prevalence of psychiatric symptoms, including emotional distress. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the risk factors related to emotional distress of hospitalized military personnel. Results : There were no significant differences in socio-demographic and psychiatric symptoms between soldiers and officers. The prevalence of depressive and/or anxiety symptoms (emotional distress) was 21.2% (n=21). In the logistic regression analysis, psychiatric history [Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR)=18.99 ; 95% Confidence Interval (CI)=1.42-253.57 ; p=0.026] and low military life satisfaction (AOR=15.67; 95% CI=1.46-168.11 ; p=0.023) correlated with emotional distress. Conclusion : Soldiers admitted to the military hospital showed similar prevalence of emotional distress as those at general hospitals. Considering military circumstances, it is necessary to detect and intervene regarding soldiers with a psychiatric history and low military life satisfaction to promote mental health at military hospitals.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the deployment types and characteristics of mobile hospitals with it's historical backgrounds. Methods: Since the disaster can not be classified by country, the scope of the study is to include both domestic and foreign mobile hospitals. In order to minimize the casualties from the field hospitals used at the time of the First World War, which is the mother of mobile hospitals, we analyzed the mobile hospitals which are more compact and changed to the target areas and analyzed the mobile hospitals. Results: Historically, mobile hospitals have been transformed in a way that they are close to the target area and rapidly inject essential elements, and the deployment of wards has evolved to be able to combine in any form with center corridor. In the case of hospitals that can deal with infectious diseases, each treatment room was installed separately to thoroughly separate the copper wire. Implications: As disaster damage increases and incidence increases, field response should be quick. However, research on mobile hospitals, which are indispensable for field response in Korea, has not been conducted in various ways. From the origins of mobile hospitals, the development process is reviewed, and research is carried out to clarify the grounds and backgrounds for the planning of mobile hospitals that are quick and appropriate to the situation in Korea and abroad.
This study examines if the uniform-related perceptions influence the formation of professional identity. A self-administered survey was conducted on 346 female nursing officers at military hospitals. The independent variables were the basic characteristics, perception of clothing benefit, perception of nursing uniform, and perception of the officer uniform. For the data analysis, we used paired t-test and hierarchical regression analysis. Using a paired t-test, we found the difference in function and satisfaction between nursing uniforms and officer uniforms. The result of hierarchical regression analysis shows that uniform-related perceptions were statistically significant in predicting professional identity. The nursing uniform explained the major portion of variation of professional identity; subsequently, the improvement of uniforms can enhance professional identity.
The responsibility to ensure the health rights of detainees, particularly their medical rights, fundamentally lies with the state in all nations. However, in the correctional facilities of the Republic of Korea, these rights are currently not adequately safeguarded. Numerous detainees express dissatisfaction with the medical services provided and show a preference for voluntary external treatment. However, barriers such as prolonged application processes for external treatment and the requirement for detainees to cover their medical expenses present significant challenges. Therefore, the National Human Rights Commission of Korea has advocated for an increased medical budget in correctional facilities and a bolstered professional medical workforce to improve the medical care of detainees. Recommendations for improvements include: (1) establishing dedicated correctional hospitals for detainees, (2) setting up specialized correctional wards, (3) collaborating with military hospitals, (4) launching mobile medical buses for diverse specialties, (5) enhancing collaboration with public and private medical institutions, (6) increasing compensation for partnering external medical institutions, (7) improving the working conditions of medical officers, (8) safeguarding the defense rights of medical staff, (9) improving the working conditions of public health doctors from the Ministry of Justice in correctional facilities, and (10) pre-assigning public health specialists and military doctors to correctional facilities. By implementing these measures, it is anticipated that the quality of medical services in the Republic of Korea's correctional facilities will improve, reducing the demand for external treatments among detainees and ensuring their health and medical rights are realistically upheld.
It is clear that the women's participation in social activity is dramatically increased in civilian field as well as military profession. Because of the characteristics of military nursing service, there are many difficulties. Frequent move, medical insurance, baby care. and the education are typical forms of difficulties for nurse officers in the military. The purpose of this research is to contribute to the perfect execution of nursing service. guarantee the active attitude for research and improve the combat strength by solving those private and economic problems. The method of research was analysis of question survey and the review of related literatures. The subject of research was 300 active nurse officers who work at the Army Hospitals. The survey was conducted 14 days from Oct 15 to Oct 28. The collected data was processed by computer using SPSS(Statistical Package of Social Science). Frequencies and percentages were used to examine the demographic characteristics of subject, and T-test was also used in the case of necessity. The result showed as follows; As the general characteristics of subject group; 28.7 years of average age, 73.6 months of service period, 63.4% of married. In regard of specialty; General 57.7%. Intensive Care 12.7% and Psychiatries 8.8%. The dissatisfactory factors about military welfare system were the difficulties in children education (36.9%). disadvantages on the civil medical insurance system (27.3%), and little chance of self education and development (21.5%). The problems in performing their duties were shown as dwelling instability due to frequent move (67.7%), and bring up children (14.2%). The reasons for resigning their job were shown as the instability of living status (64.2%), bring up children (18.8%) and dissatisfaction to the service (11.2%). The residential status was shown that military offered houses (45.2%), rental houses (29.3%) and own houses(14.64). The average numbers of moving residencies were; 3-4 time(34.6%), less than 2 times(33.1%), and 5-7 times(21.5%). Higher than 94.7% of the subject group spent more than 50.000 Won. In regard of education, they wanted to attend graduate school with their own expense(26.2%), computer science(20%) and Office Job Training(20%). The ways of taking care of children were mother-in-low(49.6%), mother(14.6%), and others(25%). The average expenditure per month for children were 20-30 hundred Won(44.2%), 10-20 hundred Won(25%) and 30-40 hundred Won(22.3%). The places of children care selected were public or occupational care center(56.2%), religious organization(20.8%), and other center managed by social organizations(10.4%). The result of survey for general welfare of nurse officers are as follows; By and large they seem to be satisfied with their job. however. there are some dissatisfactory factors. They are children care facilties, promotion. income. welfare facilities. disadvantage in medical insurance and civil hospitals. house purchase. unfair chances in specialty training. influence on promotion by educational status. and insufficient role for their children and husbands. As conclusion. the recommendations for improving nursing service are as follows; 1. Children care center managed by occupation 2. Dormitory system for children by military personnel 3. Equal opportunities in education according to ability 4. Reasonable moving price according to the distance and scope of family and extra allowance
The objective of this study is to provide basic information for planning and practicing social welfare services for married nurse officers serving in the Korean military. For such a purpose, this study identifies the difficulties which married nurse officers have faced and the necessary services which are supposed to alleviate them. The data were collected by sending a questionnaire to 114 married nurse officers from July 16 to August 10, 2001. The results of this study are as follows: First, the married nurse officers were relatively dissatisfied with such domains as child care and education, health, and housing. And among the thirty-four problems, the married nurse officers expressed the most serious dissatisfaction with the difficulty in attending the events held in child's school, lack of children's dormitory run by the military, difficulty in adjusting to the school due to frequent house-moving, and limited access to dental care. Second, the married nurse officers needed services in domains such as housing, child care and education, and health. Specifically, they wanted the military-run housing, child care facility within military hospitals, maternity leave for child care and education, extension of risk allowances, and support for BOQ. Third, with regard to the seriousness of problems as well as the priority of services, the married nurse officers gave higher priority to such domains as child care and education, health, and housing. These results indicate that married nurse officers were to the largest extent concerned with these three domains and that they had the urgent need for services relevant to those domains. The importance of routine need assessments as well as solutions to the family-related problems for married nurse officers is therefore suggested in this study.
