  • The purpose of this study is to explore the teaching and learning method using artificial intelligence (AI) in the mathematics classroom. To this end, to predict the direction of mathematics education using AI in the mathematics classroom, this study investigates the fields where AI is applied to education, and discuss issues to consider when introducing AI through scenario development using AI in middle school statistics. This study is meaningful in that it specifically considered how artificial intelligence can be grafted into the mathematics classroom through the development of scenarios that integrate and apply artificial intelligence that has been developed and used segmentally in the current middle school statistics. Afterwards, based on the contents of this study, implications for using AI in the math classroom were derived.

  • The purposes of this study are to develop the mathematical performance assessment tasks and to apply them to the middle school students. And I also intend to know the students' inclination and learning attitude to mathematics. In order to satisfy this study, I developed the performance assessment tasks and the standard program of marking about the mathematical function and statistics for the first grade students at middle school. After examining the students' basic investigation, their inclination and learning attitude to mathematics, I applied these developed tasks to them After that I put both classes and performance assessment into operation in all 15 periods. I set up two classes of the first grade students (49 students) at J middle school in Kongju, Chungcheongnam-do as a model group. The results of this study are as follows: First, owing to the developed performance assessment tasks of function and statistics, the teachers can operate the assessment system as a process of teaching and learning. Second, because of the application of mathematical performance assessment tasks, we can change the students' inclination and learning attitude to mathematics affirmatively. And by using these tasks, we can help the students to think mathematically. In this way, the students will be able to realize the real value of mathematics and have a growing interest in mathematics through all these meaningful processes. Judging from this study, we can elevate the students' abilities of problem solving and reasoning and improve teaching-learning method by applying the performance assessment tasks to them. Thanks to these tasks, the students will be changed affirmatively in their inclination and learning attitude to mathematics. I think that these tasks are very good assessment method which can call forth curiosity and interest. Besides, they can also help the students realize the real value of mathematics.

  • The middle school mathematics teachers of the countryside in western China have little chance to further their education and strengthen their research abilities. In this program, we should offer them chance to learn new educational ideas and teaching methods. There will be demonstration lectures and video teaching of course standards followed by group discussion and personalized instructions. These activities prepare the teachers to give their own demonstration lectures. This again is followed by additional personalized instructions. The teachers come to the program with very limited knowledge of these techniques but will leave with the ability to write educational scientific research papers.

  • In high school mathematics class, to subtract a number b from a, we add the additive inverse of b to a and to divide a number a by a non-zero number b, we multiply a by the multiplicative inverse of b, which is the formal approach for operations of real numbers. This article aims to give a connection between the intuitive models in middle school mathematics class and the formal approach in high school for teaching operations of negative integers. First, we highlight the teaching methods(Hwang et al, 2008), by which subtraction of integers is denoted by addition of integers. From this methods and activities applying the counting model, we give new teaching methods for the rule that the product of negative integers is positive. The teaching methods with horizontal mathematization(Treffers, 1986; Freudenthal, 1991) of operations of integers, which is based on consistently applying the intuitive model(number line model, counting model), will remove the gap, which is exist in both teachers and students of middle and high school mathematics class. The above discussion is based on students' cognition that the number system in middle and high school and abstracted number system in abstract algebra course is formed by a conceptual structure.

  • This paper is the case study how we can apply the appropriate teaching method in order to correct the misconception of middle and high school students in preservice teachers' education. Through the review of previous research and literature, we categorized students' misconception and sought the teaching method to teach preservice teachers. During this process, we did according to PBL and preservice teachers also tried to find the teaching method for students. And thus we were able to suggest the appropriate teaching method which was effective in correcting the misconception of middle & high school students along with their fine understanding of mathematical concepts. Further, preservice teachers acknowledged cooperative teaching & learning and the importance of it as well as the self-directed teaching and learning.

  • The revised mathematics education curriculum in 2007 decided to introduce mathematics workbooks to the textbook system, which were supplemental textbooks to support mathematics teachers' teaching and students' learning in level-based classroom. This study is to find the field status whether the middle school mathematics workbooks are currently used in the school to be in line with the original intention and purpose and to discuss the improvement direction and effective utilization idea which modification and amendment shall be made for the effective utilization in the field. To achieve the goal of this study, the inquiry survey was made from 75 middle school teachers of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade in the middle schools where the moving classing for each level(or class in each level)has been performed with provision of the questionnaire sheet for the understanding of the teachers for the utilization status of the mathematics workbook to solve such study task.

  • The purpose of this study is to survey mathematics teacher's cognition of proof along with their proof forms of expression and proof ability, and to explore the relationship between their proof scheme and teaching practice. This study shows that mathematics teachers tend to regard proof as a deduction from assumption to conclusion and that they prefer formal proof with mathematical symbols. Mathematics teachers also recognize that prof is an important area in school mathematics but they reveal poor understanding of teaching methods of proof. Teachers tend to depend on the proof style employed in mathematics textbooks. This study demonstrates that a proof scheme is a major factor of determining the teaching method of proof.

  • We prove many statements in middle and high school mathematics, so it is necessary to have some method for understanding the modes of proof. But it is hard to discuss about the modes of proof without knowing logics. Venn-diagrams can be used in a great variety of situations, and it is useful to the students unfamiliar with logical procedure. Since knowing a mode of proof that could be used may still not guarantee success of proof, it is also necessary to illustrate many cases of proof strategies. To achieve the above reguirements, (1)Even though intuition, the modes of proof used in middle school mathematics should be understood by using venn-diagrams and the students can use the right proof in the right statement. (2)We must illustrate many kinds of proof so that the students can get the proof stratigies from these illustrations. (3)If possible, logic should be treated in middle school mathematics for students to understand the system of proof correctly.

  • In this paper, we improved, compared and analyzed the articulation of school mathematics. We also tried to form the theoretical basis of school mathematics by classifying and considering the articulation into vertical articulation and horizontal articulation depending on the meaning, and give an actual help. The articulation of school mathematics until now has been focused on a study of vertical articulation according to the macroscopic characteristic of mathematics, but now a study of the horizontal articulation as well as the vertical articulation should be done in consideration of the micro characteristics of mathematics and various realities of life by modifying a syllabus of the function unit and by using internet homepage. Thus, we structurally divided the articulation into vertical articulation and horizontal articulation, analyzed mathematical activities and presented actual models of each representative learning activity for smooth teaching in schools through the function unit.
