고대 청동기의 성분조성 및 산지추정 연구 (Study on quantitative & trace element analysis of metal objects)

  • We have analyzed the ingredients of 17 pieces of Bronze Age bronze ware, and an additional 22 pieces of Koryo and Chosun dynasty bronze ware. We have also conducted analysis of the extraction sites where these bronze ware items were found. For analyzing the main ingredient the bronze ware items have been divided into 3 groups - Cu-Sn(70?75:20), Cu-Pb-Sn(70:10:10), Cu-Pb-Sn(60:10:20) type respectively. In tile cases of the Cu-Pb-Sn groups the division comes down to differences in the Cu content as the main component, and elements such as Ni, Fe, Co contribute as a micro ingredient. The geographical and periodic characteristics of ancient bronze ware items show that theircompositional element changes from Cu:Sn to Cu:Pb:Sn and the Cu content decreases with the period,while the Pb content increases with the period. Bronze ware items from Suchon Ri, Gongju (that were used in 3 B.C.) form very different categories from 3rd ${\~}$ 2nd B.C.. They additionally formed very different categories from those bronze ware items analyzed in this research. These bronze ware itemsare shown to be geographically close and periodically overlapped, but made of a new elemental composition. This shows an inflow of a production technical culture present in the new bronze wares. The main component content of Cu is lower, and the Co and Fe contents (as microelements) are much higher than that of other bronze ware items. Such facts showthat those bronze ware items used completely different materials from bronze ware items in other cultural areas, or that there were differences in smelting techniques In the places where ancient bronze ware items have been extracted, it is presumed that the materials originated from the southern parts of Korea andnorthern parts and southern parts of China. .As more bronze ware scientific research is compiled one can conclude that that there will be enough scientific evidence to study the Bronze Age culture of Koreasystematically.

Effects of red ginseng on the elastic properties of human skin

  • Background: Red ginseng contains components, including microelements, vitamins, essential oils, and fatty acids, that can be used in skincare to delay the aging process. We investigated the effects of red ginseng treatment on skin elasticity by assessing cellular stiffness and measuring collagen protein synthesis. Methods: Human dermal fibroblasts were treated with red ginseng, and the resulting changes in stiffness were investigated using atomic force microscopy. Cytoskeletal changes and mRNA expression of biomarkers of aging, including that of procollagens I and VII, elastin, and fibrillin-1, were investigated. Collagen in a human skin equivalent treated with red ginseng was visualized via hematoxylin and eosin staining, scanning electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. Results and conclusion: The stiffness of fibroblasts was significantly reduced by treatment with red ginseng concentrations of ≥ 0.8 mg/mL. The ratio of F-actin to G-actin decreased after treatment, which corresponded to a change in fibroblast stiffness. The storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G'') of the skin equivalent were both lowered by red ginseng treatment. This result indicates that the viscoelasticity of the skin equivalent can be restored by red ginseng treatment.

Differences in Physicochemical and Nutritional Properties of Breast and Thigh Meat from Crossbred Chickens, Commercial Broilers, and Spent Hens

  • The objective of this study was to compare the physicochemical and nutritional properties of breast and thigh meat from commercial Chinese crossbred chickens (817 Crossbred chicken, 817C), imported commercial broilers (Arbor Acres broiler, AAB), and commercial spent hens (Hyline Brown, HLB). The crossbred chickens, commercial broilers and spent hens were slaughtered at their typical market ages of 45 d, 40 d, and 560 d, respectively. The results revealed that several different characteristic features for the three breeds. The meat of the 817C was darker than that of the other two genotypes. The 817C were also characterized by higher protein, lower intramuscular fat, and better texture attributes (cooking loss, pressing loss and Warner-Bratzler shear force [WBSF]) compared with AAB and HLB. The meat of the spent hens (i.e. HLB) was higher in WBSF and total collagen content than meat of the crossbred chickens and imported broilers. Furthermore, correlation analysis and principal component analysis revealed that there was a clear relationship among physicochemical properties of chicken meats. With regard to nutritional properties, it was found that 817C and HLB exhibited higher contents of essential amino acids and essential/non-essential amino acid ratios. In addition, 817C were noted to have highest content of microelements whereas AAB have highest content of potassium. Besides, 817C birds had particularly higher proportions of desirable fatty acids, essential fatty acids, polyunsaturated/saturated and (18:0+18:1)/16:0 ratios. The present study also revealed that there were significant differences on breast meat and thigh meat for the physicochemical and nutritional properties, regardless of chicken breeds. In conclusion, meat of crossbred chickens has some unique features and exhibited more advantages over commercial broilers and spent hens. Therefore, the current investigation would provide valuable information for the chicken meat product processing, and influence the consumption of different chicken meat.

  • 세 Alfalfa 품종(品種)(Medicago sativa L. var. Moapoa, Washoe, Lahontan)의 건물생산량(乾物生産量)과 양분흡수(養分吸收)에 미치는 석회(石灰)와 근류균접종효과(根瘤菌接種效果)를 적황색(赤黃色) 사양토(砂壤土)(여기(麗岐) 산토양 pH 4.9)를 사용(使用) Pot시험(試驗)으로 조사(調査)하였다. 1. 무석회구(無石灰區)에서는 발아율이 낮고 그후 생육(生育)이 되지 아니하였으며 Moapa가 가장 강하였다. 2. 무접종구(無接種區)의 건물수량(乾物收量)은 Moapa>Washoe>Lahontan의 순(順)이고 접종효과(接種效果)는 이와 반대였으며 근류균(根瘤菌) 착생에는 큰 차이(差異)가 없었다. 3. 예취시기가 경과함에 따라 무접종구(無接種區)의 수량(收量)이 증가(增加)하고 접종효과(接種效果)가 감소하였으며 질소농도(窒素濃度)에 있어서도 같은 경향이었다. 4. Moapa는 다른 두 품종(品種)에 비(比)하여 N, Ca, Mg의 농도(濃度)가 높은 반면 P, K의 농도(濃度)는 낮았다. 5. Washoe는 Lahontan에 비(比)하여 K가 높고 Ca가 낮으며, Lahontan은 Washoe에 비(比)하여 P가 높고 Mg가 낮다. 6. 접종(接種)에 의(依)해 예취시기가 경과함에 따라 P, K가 감소하였다. 7. Moapa의 다수성(多收性)은 N, Ca, Mg 흡수력(吸收力)이 강한 반면 P, K의 요구도가 적은데 기인하는 것으로 보였다.

Production of Adventitious Ginseng Roots Using Biorectors

  • Panax ginseng is an important medicinal plant that has been used worldwide for geriatric, tonic, stomachic, and aphrodisiac treatments. Ginsenosides contained in the ginseng root are the main substances having active functions for human body. The price of ginseng is very expensive due to a complex process of cultivation, and the yield of ginseng is limited, which cannot meet the demand of the increasing market. Researchers have applied plant biotechnology to solve the problems but there are still things to be determined towards ginsenoside production by large-scale adventitious root culture. In this experiment, 5 to 20 liter bioreactors were employed to determine optimal conditions for adventitious root culture and ginsenoside production of Panax gineng. Callus was induced from the ginseng root on MS agar medium containing 1.0 mg. $L^{-1}$ 2,4-D and 0.1 mg. $L^{-1}$ kinetin. Then the callus was cultured on MS agar medium supplemented with 2.0 mg. $L^{-1}$ IBA, 0.1 mg. $L^{-1}$ kinetin, and 30 g. $L^{-1}$ to induce adventitious roots. The maximum root growth and ginsenoside production were obtained in 1/2 MS medium. 2.0 mg. $L^{-1}$ naphthalene acetic acid resulted in greater root growth than 2.0 mg $L^{-1}$ indole-3-butyric acid. Ginsenoside content increased with 2.0 mg. $L^{-1}$ benzyl adenin or kinetin. High concentrations of benzyl adenin (above 3.0 mg. $L^{-1}$ ) decreased the adventitious root growth and ginsenoside productivity. N $H_{4}$$^{+}$ inhibited the ginsenoside accumulation, while high concentrations of $K^{+}$, $Mg_{2}$$^{+}$, and $Ca_{2}$$^{+}$ increased it. N $H_{4}$$^{+}$ at 0.5 and 1.0 times of the normal amount in 3/4 SH medium resulted in the greatest biomass increase, but the highest ginsenoside productivity was obtained when N $O_{3}$$^{-}$ was used as the sole nitrogen source in the medium. Most microelements at high concentrations in the medium inhibited the root growth, but high concentrations of MnS $O_4$enhanced the root growth. Root dry weight increased with increasing sucrose concentrations up to 50 g. $L^{-1}$ , but decreased from 70 g $L^{-1}$ Ginsenoside productivity was maximized at the range of 20 to 30 g. $L^{-1}$ sucrose. In the experiment on bioreactor types, cone and balloon types were determined to be favorable for both adventitious root growth and ginsenoside production. Jasmonic acid was effective for increasing ginsenoside contents and Rb group ginsenosides mainly increased. These results could be employed in commercial scale bioreactor cultures of Panax ginseng.x ginseng.

시판 포장가공 식품의 영양표시 현황에 관한 조사연구 (A Study on the Current Nutritin Labeling Practices for the Processed Foods Retailed in the Supermarket in Korea)

  • Our current food hygiene law mandates nutrition label (NL) for the special nutrition foods, health support foods, instant foods, and foods with certain nutrient emphasized note, only. Currently more processed foods are bearing nutrition labels though the format is quite inconsistant. This study examined the status on current nutrition labeling practices for the processed foods that are retailed in the supermarket. The obtained information was assessed in the aspects of numerical data presentation on nutrients content, descriptive terms, health claim, and the format. The results are summarized as follows. 1) Foods with NL are limited to the food category specified by current hygiene law while voluntary nutition labeling is few. 2) Descriptive terms such as free, low, and sufficient are not substantiated with quantitative data. The efficacy of microelements which has not been clalified yet are overemphasized but major nutrients are ignored. 3) The regulations for the descriptive terms are set on the base of the nutrient content per 100g or 100ml under current nutrition labeling act. It would mislead consumers thus the definition for these descriptor be better set on the unit of the amount of food customary eaten at one time. For this the standard serving size should be set officially. 4) Quantitative nutrition information given on food products is difficult to compare because of the lack in formality. The title of NL, load and kinds of nutritents, order of nutrients listed, the unit of expression, RDA comparision, and reference RDA are inconsistant among the foods similar in dietary property. Uniform format is needed to give NL the credibility and usefulness. Proividing nutrition information to the consumers with NL is a worldwide practice though its efficacy has been controversial. Under newly legistered health promotion law in Korean nutrition education is esxpected to take part in to improve national nutrition condition and NL would education is expected to take part in to improve national nutrition condition and NL would be a potent tool for public nutritions education. It appears to be the time to mandate NL to all the processed foods in the market. The result of present study would initiate further consumer experiments related to NL. Various interest groups such as food and nutrition professions, public health organizations, government regulatory agencies, food producers and marketers, and consumer groups need to particepate and communicate for the legislation of NL and the development of NL format.

농업용 저수지에서 환경 요인이 Microcystis aeruginosa (cyanobacteria) 성장에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Environmental Factors on the Growth of Microcystis aeruginosa (Cyanobacteria) in Agricultural Reservoirs)

  • 본 연구는 경북 안동시 풍천면에 소재한 농업용 저수지인 호민지와 가곡지에서 수계의 물리 화학적 환경요인이 수화현상에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 수온, chlorophyll-a, 총질소, 총인, 인산염인의 평균값은 가곡지가 높았다. 반면에 pH의 평균값은 호민지가 높았다. 미량원소 (Na, K, Mg, Fe, Si)의 평균값은 모두 가곡지에서 높았다. 두 저수지에서 수화현상을 일으킨 남조류는 Microcystis aeruginosa였고, 5월부터 발생하기 시작하여 8월에 최대의 현존량을 나타냈다. M. aeruginosa의 현존량 증가와 수질과의 상관관계에서 호민지에서 $Na^+$ (r=-0.910, p<0.05), $Fe^{2+}$ (r=-0.855, p<0.05)와 $Si^{4+}$ (r=0.989, p<0.01)가 현존량 증가와 높은 상관관계를 보였고 가곡지에서는 $Na^+$ (r=-0.776, p<0.05), $Si^{4+}$ (r=0.899, p<0.05)가 현존량 증가와 높은 상관관계를 보였다. 규조류의 제한요인인 Si가 남조류 현존량과 상관관계가 높은 것은 매우 특이하다. 결론적으로 수화현상 발생에는 가장 중요한 영양염인 질소와 인뿐만 아니라 여러 요인들의 복합적 작용으로 발생하는 것으로 생각된다.

참외용 수경재배시스템에서의 순환배양액의 무기이온 함량의 변화 (Changes of Nutrient Content of Circulating Solution in Three Different New Hydroponics for Oriental Melons(Cucumis melo L. var. makuwa Mak.))

  • 시설재배 참외를 위한 새로운 방식의 순환식 수경재배시스템을 고안하여 참외 수경재배의 가능성을 검정하고, 순환식 수경재배 시의 배양액 관리기술을 확립하기 위하여 세 가지 수경재배방식에서 순환배양액의 무기이온 함량의 변화를 조사하였다. 참외의 수경재배에서 토양재배와 비교하여 양호한 수량과 품질을 나타내었다. 참외의 수경재배는 고형배지방식이 적합한 것으로 보였으며 NFT방식은 고온기의 장해발생으로 적합하지 않은 것으로 생각되었다. 참외의 배양액은 야마자키 조성 멜론 배양액을 EC 2.0dS.m$^{-}$로 전 생육기간에 동일하게 공급하는 것이 적절한 것으로 밝혀졌다. 순환방식에서도 배양액의 EC와 pH는 비교적 안정적으로 유지되었으며 순환배양액내의 다량원소와 미량원소도 계속적으로 일정한 함량으로 유지되어 참외용 수경재배방식이 적절한 것을 확인할 수 있었다. NO$_3$-N, Ca, Mg은 모든 재배방식에서 비슷한 양상으로 안정적인 함량변화를 나타내었고, P은 다른 두 방식에 비해 펄라이트 배지에서 약 $1me{\cdot}{\iota}$^{-}$ 정도 흡수가 저하하였으며, K은 펄라이트 배지에서는 불규칙한 양상을 보였으나 코코피트 배지에서는 안정적인 함량변화를 나타내었다. 미량원소는 Mo을 제외하고는 고형배지 방식에서는 대체적으로 안정된 함량의 추이를 나타내어 미량원소의 흡수가 원활하게 이루어진 것을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 NFT방식에서는 B와 Mn은 비교적 안정된 함량변화를 나타내었으나 다른 원소들은 불규칙적인 변화를 나타내었다. 특히 고온기에 미량원소의 흡수가 저하한 것을 알 수 있었으며 Cu. Zn, Mo의 흡수가 원활하지 않았다. 본 실험의 결과를 통하여 참외를 위한 새로운 순환식 고형배지방식은 참외시설재배에서의 문제점을 해결하는 적절한 방법이 될 것으로 생각되었다.

고추 수확 후 잔재물 추출물의 생리활성과 세포독성 분석 (Analysis of Physiological Activity and Cytotoxicity of Residue Extracts after Pepper Harvest)

  • 본 연구에서는 고추(Capsicum annuum L.) 수확 후 버려지는 잔재물의 활용가치를 위해 이들로부터 추출한 발효추출물과 열수추출물의 생리활성과 세포독성을 분석하였다. 녹광고추 발효추출물에 함유된 질소, 인산, 칼륨, 칼슘, 마그네슘 성분의 총 함량은 청양고추 발효추출물 보다 2배 정도 높았고, 열수추출물에서는 유사한 함량을 보였다. 미량원소 중에는 붕산, 철, 규소 성분만 검출되고, 아연, 망간, 몰리브덴, 구리 성분은 두 추출물 모두에서 검출되지 않았다. 총 폴리페놀과 플라보노이드 함량은 청양고추와 녹광고추 모두에서 발효추출물이 열수추출물 보다 2배 이상 높게 나타내었다. DPPH radical 소거 능력은 발효추출물이 열수추출물 보다 항산화력이 높게 나타내었으나, ABTS radical 소거 능력은 열수추출물이 발효추출물 보다 항산화력이 높게 나왔다. MTT assay를 이용한 추출물의 세포독성 실험에서는 청양고추와 녹광고추 두 추출물의 모든 농도에서 세포독성이 미약한 것으로 확인되었다. 따라서 고추 수확 후 버려지는 잔재물이 천연 기능성 물질추출을 위한 소재로 이용되거나 또한 그 추출물이 각종 바이오 소재로 활용되어도 큰 문제가 없으리라 판단된다.

  • 희석질산(稀釋窒酸)으로 중화(中和)된 왕겨훈탄(燻炭)의 상토재료가 채소류(菜蔬類)의 시설재배(施設栽培)에서 수경재배(水耕栽培)를 대체(代替)할 수 있는 청정한 배양물질(培養物質)로서 활용(活用) 가능(可能)한지는 구명(究明)하기 위하여 공급(供給)되는 영양액(營養液)의 종류(種類) 및 농도(濃度)를 달리하여 배추, 상치 및 시금치의 생장반응(生長反應)을 검토(檢討)하였다. 채소류(菜蔬類)의 배양물질(培養物質)로서 왕겨훈탄(燻炭)을 활용할 경우 공급(供給)되는 영양액(營養液)의 농도(濃度)는 질소함량(窒素含量)을 기준(基準)으로 126ppm의 농도(濃度)가 바람직하였다. 공급(供給)될수 있는 영양액(營養液) 종류(種類)는 미량요소(微量要素)가 함유된 영양액(營養液)이나 복합비료(複合肥料)(10-10-20) 용액(溶液) 둘다 생장량(生長量)과 식물체중(植物體中)의 내용성분(內容成分)에 차이를 보이지 않았다. 따라서 실제적인 농가(農家)에서의 취급(取扱) 간편성(簡便性)을 고려해 볼때 복합비료(複合肥料) 용액(溶液)은 수경재배(水耕栽培)에서 이용되는 영양액(營養液) 보다 더 바람직하다고 생각되었다. 왕겨훈탄(燻炭)의 지지력(支持力)을 증대(增大)시키기 위하여 자갈의 혼합효과(混合効果)에 대하여 또한 함께 비교(比較)하였다. 왕겨훈탄(燻炭)에 자갈(직경 7~10cm)을 혼합(混合)한 처리(處理)는 자갈에 의한 잠열의 보존효과(保存効果)에 기인(起因)되어 혼합(混合)하지 않은 처리(處理) 및 퇴비상토(堆肥床土)보다 양호(良好)한 생장(生長)을 보이며 건물중(乾物重)이 가장 많았다. 그러나 자갈을 혼합(混合)하지 않은 경우(境遇)에도 채소류(菜蔬類)의 생육(生育)은 퇴비상토(堆肥床土) 처리(處理)보다 양호(良好)하였으며 지지력(支持力) 또한 문제(問題)되지 않았다. 따라서 취급(取扱)의 간편(簡便)함을 고려(考慮)해 볼때 자갈을 혼합(混合)하지 않은 가벼운 왕겨훈탄(燻炭)을 채소작물의 시설재배(施設栽培)를 위한 청정한 배양물질(培養物質)로 활용(活用)함에 있어 더 효과적(効果的)이라고 생각된다.
