  • In the course of cement hydration it was found that the addition of polyvinyl alcohol(contracted as PVA. here after) only in the cement paste could more influence on the set-retardation the depression of heat evol-ution rate than that of montmorillonit only or PVA-montmorillonie intercalation complex (PMIC) due to the effective adsorption of PVA on cement particles. The improved mechanical strength by addition of montmorillonite and PMIC was observed remarkably up to 0.05wt% due to the decrease of macro-pores caused by lowed viscosity or the acceleration of hydration reaction.

  • A series of novel spinning acrylic polymer containing silk protein were synthesized by copolymerization of acrylonitrile (AN) and silk fibroin peptide (SFP) modified by acryloyl chloride (AC) with vinyl groups. The viscosity values of these copolymers showed that the copolymers have good spinnability, which are synthesized under the condition of putting a micro amount of metal ions into synthesizing solvent. The fiber based on the poly (AN-co-SFP) was prepared and characterized by SEM, FTIR measurement of its shell and core flakes, and moisture absorption. The fiber appeared a smooth surface and could be assumed to have excellent adhesive between SFP and PAN. Furthermore, these fibers showed a shell-core structure and excellent moisture absorption.

  • A similarity solution of a steady laminar flow of micropolar fluids past wedges has been studied. The similarity variables found by Falkner and Skan are employed to reduce the streamwise-dependence in the coupled nonlinear boundary layer equations. Numerical solutions of the equations are then obtained using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method and the distribution of velocity, micro-rotation, shear and couple stress across the boundary layer are obtained. These results are compared with the corresponding flow problems for Newtonian fluid past wedges with various wedge angles. Numerical results show that, keeping ${\beta}$ constant, the skin friction coefficient is lower for a micropolar fluid, as compared to a Newtonian fluid. For the case of constant material parameter K, however, the velocity distribution for a micropolar fluid is higher than that of a Newtonian fluid.

  • Fuel spray in a gasoline engine is a significant factor for the decision of engine power, pollutant emission and the design of intake manifold system. Three kinds of fuel which has other physical properties are chosen in this study, and it is observed using an image processing method that the mechanism and structure of free fuel spray with a throttle type gasoline injector, and the detailed characteristics of droplet size and velocity distributions are obtained by macro and micro-scopic measuring method respectively. It is verified that the initial breakup behaviors are depended on We like the result of Reitz's study, and also observed that the spray of octane and solvent with Re of 210~330 and 270~330 respectively are better than ethanol which has relatively high density and viscosity.

  • In the UV-NIL process using an elementwise patterned stamp (EPS), which includes channels formed to separate each element with patterns, low-viscosity resin droplets with a nano-liter volume are dispensed on all elements of the EPS. Following pressing of the EPS, the EPS is illuminated with UV light to cure the resin; and then the EPS is separated from several thin patterned elements on a wafer. Experiments on UV-NIL were performed on an EVG620-NIL. 50 - 70 nm features of the EPS were successfully transferred to 4 in. wafers. Especially, the wafer deformation during imprint was analyzed using the finite element method (FEM) in order to study the effect of the wafer deformation on the UV-NIL using EPS.

  • In this paper, the semi active mount featuring Magneto rheological fluid(MR Fluid) is proposed. MR fluid is suspension of micro sized magnetizable particles in a fluid medium, and its apparent viscosity can be varied by the applied strength of magnetic field. When the controllable MR fluid is applied to mechanical devices, the devices provide simple, rapid response interfaces between electronic controls and mechanical systems. The MR fluid is applied in the conventional fluid mount for improving its performance of the mount's isolation effect. A appropriate size of the MR mount is designed and manufactured on the basis of Bingham model of MR fluid. In addition, the field dependent damping forces of MR mount are evaluated with respect to the input frequency variation.

  • Three kinds of cationic acrylamide copolymer with different branch degree were prepared controlling the dosage of N, N'-methylenebisacrylamide. The physical characteristics of the branch-degree-modified copolymers were analyzed by intrinsic viscosity and charge density. The branch degree measurements were investigated by applying the colloidal titration phenomena using a spectrophotometer and comparison with the cationic regain measurement method. The results showed that the absorbance behaviors of spectrophotometer were distinctively different with the branch degree of copolymers. Also, the branch degree determinations and molecular structure estimations of the copolymers were numerically measured by applying the titration phenomena using a spectrophotometer. Finally, three kinds of branch-degree-modified copolymers were applied to flocculation test using arbocel micro pulp for the determination of flocculation behavior by different morphology of cationic acrylamide copolymers.

  • The behavior of viscous fingerings caused by an external force is investigated by using a twophase lattice Boltzmann method. The effects of the modified capillary number, the viscosity contrast, and the modified Darcy-Rayleigh number on the instability of interfaces are found. The calculated wave numbers are in good agreement with the theoretical ones in the range of wave numbers smaller than 10, but the calculated ones tend to become smaller than the theoretical ones in higher wave numbers.

  • This work analyzes the behaviors of aerated lubricant in the gap between con-rod bearing and journal. Aerated lubricant influences two major factors on the film formation. One is the density characteristics of the lubricant due to the volume change by the bubbles and the other is the viscosity characteristics of the lubricant due to the surface tension of the bubble. Those two major factors surprisingly increase the load capacity in certain ranges of bubble sizes and densities. Modified Reynolds' equation is developed with the consideration of aerated ratio in the lubricant and journal locus is computed with the Mobility method after the computation of two dimensional pressure distributions over the bearing area.

  • This study was conducted to calculate the permeability coefficient in a single fracture while taking the true fracture geometry into consideration. The fracture geometry was measured using the confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). The CLSM geometry data were used to reconstruct a fracture model for numerical analysis using a homogenization analysis (HA) method. The HA is a new type of perturbation theory developed to characterize the behavior of a micro-inhomogeneous material that involves periodic microstructures. The HA permeability was calculated based on the local geometry and local material properties (water viscosity in this case). The results show that the permeability coefficients do not follow the theoretical relationship of the cubic law.
