In this paper, I present the domestic development of near infrared camera systems for the ground telescope and the space satellite. These systems are the first infrared instruments made for astronomical observation in Korea. KASINICS (KASI Near Infrared Camera System) was developed to be installed on the 1.8m telescope of the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) in Korea. KASINICS is equipped with a $512{\times}512$ InSb array enable L band observations as well as J, H, and Ks bands. The field-of-view of the array is $3.3'{\times}3.3'$ with a resolution of 0.39"/pixel. It employs an Offner relay optical system providing a cold stop to eliminate thermal background emission from the telescope structures. From the test observation, limiting magnitudes are J=17.6, H=17.5, Ks=16.1 and L(narrow)=10.0 mag at a signal-to-noise ratio of 10 in an integration time of 100 s. MIRIS (Multi-purpose InfraRed Imaging System) is the main payload of the STSAT-3 in Korea. MIRIS Space Observation Camera (SOC) covers the observation wavelength from $0.9{\mu}m$ to $2.0{\mu}m$ with a wide field of view $3.67^{\circ}{\times}3.67^{\circ}$. The PICNIC HgCdTe detector in a cold box is cooled down below 100K by a micro Stirling cooler of which cooling capacity is 220mW at 77K. MIRIS SOC adopts passive cooling technique to chill the telescope below 200K by pointing to the deep space (3K). The cooling mechanism employs a radiator, a Winston cone baffle, a thermal shield, MLI of 30 layers, and GFRP pipe support in the system. Opto-mechanical analysis was made in order to estimate and compensate possible stresses from the thermal contraction of mounting parts at cryogenic temperatures. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of mechanical structure was also conducted to ensure safety and stability in launching environments and in orbit. MIRIS SOC will mainly perform the Galactic plane survey with narrow band filters (Pa $\alpha$ and Pa $\alpha$ continuum) and CIB (Cosmic Infrared Background) observation with wide band filters (I and H) driven by a cryogenic stepping motor.

In this paper, analysis and measurement on coaxial connecter designed for packaging of microwave and micro strip transition structure are carried out. Even though researches on optimization of various kinds of transition structures have been conducted actively; however, the range of the application was very limited since they have been focused mainly on improvement of specific transmission line. Therefore, in this paper, we tried to analyze three kinds of substrates of which dielectric constants are 2,5,10 and are commercially used nowadays. Besides, we have confirmed reliability of FEM analysis, extracted equivalent circuit of transition area, found out factors determining extracted physical values, and made proof of electromagnetic variations for optimum characteristics. In addition, transition structure showing optimized characteristics on the basis of dielectric and microstrip structure was proposed. We reckon that the result of this research will apply with effect to transition design in microwave packaging development.

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) based electronic devices are widely used for various applications in large area electronics, biomedical wearable interfaces and implantable circuitry where flexibility and/or stretchability are required. A few fabrication methods of electronic devices directly on PDMS substrate have been reported. However, it is well known that micro-cracks appear in the metal layer and in the lithography pattern on a PDMS substrate. To solve the above problems, a few studies for fabrication of stiff platform on PDMS substrate have been reported. Thin-film islands of a stiff region are fabricated on an elastomeric substrate, and electronic devices are fabricated on these stiff islands. When the substrate is stretched, the deformation is mainly accommodated by the substrate, and the stiff islands and electronic devices experience relatively small strains. Here, we report a new method to achieve stiff islands structures on an elastomeric substrate at a various thickness, as the platform for stretchable electronic devices. The stiff islands were defined by conventional photolithography on a stress-free elastomeric substrate. This technique can provide a practical strategy for realizing large-area stretchable electronic circuits, for various applications such as stretchable display or wearable electronic systems.
For the development of the environment-friendly insulating composite materials, natural cellulose (wood chip and sawdust) was used as a core material and activated Hwangtoh was used as a binder. Various specimens were prepared with the water/binder ratio and natural cellulose/binder ratio. The physical properties of these specimens were then investigated through compressive and flexural strength test, absorption test, hot water resistance test, thermal conductivity, measurement of pore distribution and observation of micro-structures using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results showed that the absorption ratio increased with the increase of natural cellulose/binder ratio but decreased remarkably with the increase of polymer/binder ratio. The compressive and flexural strength development varied appreciably with the increase of water/binder ratio and natural cellulose/binder ratio. On the other hand, thermal conductivity decreased with the increase of natural cellulose/binder ratio and polymer/binder ratio. Through SEM, it was found that activated Hwangtoh that reacted with water formed a hydrate crystal leading to the compact structure and the total pore volume of the specimen using activated Hwangtoh was smaller than that of the non-activated Hwangtoh.

In order to set up a steel frame at every construction site, it is necessary to attach a shackle to a crane to move steel frame beams and columns(H beams). The shackle used for this purpose must be removed manually from a higher place, which causes the risk of safety accidents to increase, work efficiency to decrease, and construction costs to rise. In this study, micro-mini, super lightweight, lower power consumptive, and cheaper auto-shackle with two-way RF communication, which can be used practically at construction site is designed and developed. The developed auto-shackle is able to have excellent remote monitoring and controlling functions, by adopting new operating principles and structures different from the existing one. The results of the study reveal that the auto-shackle can be applied for the purpose of remote controlling of various construction equipments and speed up the advancement of construction equipments.
To perform the realtime strain and fracture monitoring of the smart composite structures, two optical fiber sensor systems are proposed. The two types of the coherent sources were used for fracture signal detection - EDFA with FBG and EDFA with Fabry-Perot filter. These sources were coupled to EFPI sensors imbedded in composite specimens. To understand the characteristics of matrix crack signals, at first, we performed tensile tests using surface attached PZT sensors by changing the thickness and width of the specimens. This paper describes the implementation of time-frequency analysis such as short time Fourier transform (STFT) and wavelet transform (WT) for the quantitative evaluation of fracture signals. The experimental result shows the distinctive signal features in frequency domain due to the different specimen shapes. And, from the test of tensile load monitoring using optical fiber sensor systems, measured strain agreed with the value of electric strain gage and the fracture detection system could detect the moment of damage with high sensitivity to recognize the onset of micro-crack fracture signal.
In the vacuum assisted RTM (VARTM) process that has become the center of attention for manufacturing massive composite structures, a good evacuation of air in the fiber preform is recognized as the prime factor. The microvoids, or the dry spots, are formed as a result of improper gate/vent locations and the mold geometry. The non-uniform resin velocity at the flow front leads to the formation of microvoids in the fibers, whereas the air in the microvoids can migrate along with the resin flow during mold filling. The residual air in the internal voids of a composite structure may cause a degradation of the mechanical properties as well as the structural failure. In this study, a unified macro- and micro analysis methods were developed to investigate the formation and transport of air in resin during VARTM process. A numerical simulation program was developed to analyze the three-dimensional flow pattern as well as the macro- and microscopic distribution of air in a composite part fabricated by VARTM process.

An off-surface flow visualization experiments have been performed to investigate the flow field over a delta wing with the leading edge extension(LEX). The model is a flat wing with $65^{\circ}$ sweepback angle. The free stream velocity is 6.2 m/s, which corresponds to Reynolds number of $4.4\times10^5$ based on the wing root chord. The angle of attack and sideslip angle range from $16^{\circ}\sim28^{\circ}$ and $0^{\circ}\sim-15^{\circ}$, respectively. The visualization technique of using the micro water-droplet and the laser beam sheet enabled to observe the vortical flow structures, which can not be obtained by 5-hole probe measurements. With sideslip angle, the interaction and breakdown of the LEX and wing vortices was promoted in the windward side, whereas, it was suppressed in the leeward side.
In X-ray irradiation, dose distribution depends on multiple parameters, one of them being tissue inhomogeneity to change the dose significantly. considerable dose attenuation through the mid-cranial fossa is expected because of various bony structures in it. Dose distribution around the mid-cranial fossa, following irradiation with 6 MV photon beam, was measured with LiF TLD micro-rod, and compared with the expected dose inthe same sites. In our calculation with $C_f$(correction factor), the expected dose attenuation revealed about $3.74\%$ per 1 cm thickness of bone tissue. And the differences between the expected dose with correction for bone tissue and the measured dose by TLD was small, agreeing within an average variation of $\pm0.21\%$.
Since molecular structure of hnRNP is not available in foreseeable future, it is best to construct a working model for hnRNP structure. A geometric problem, assembly of $700{\pm}20$ nucleotides with 48 proteins, is visualized by a frame work in which all the proteins participate in primary binding, followed by secondary, tertiary and quaternary binding with neighboring proteins without additional import. Thus, 40S hnRNP contains crown-like secondary structure (48 stemloops) and appearance of 6 petal (octamers) rose-like architectures. The proteins are wrapped by RNA. Co-transcriptional folding for RNP fibril of FMR1 gene can produce 2,571 stem-loops with frequency of 1 stem-loop/15.3 nucleotides and 53 40S hnRNP beaded structure. By spliceosome driven reactions, there occurs removal of 16 separate lariated RNPs, joining 17 separate beaded exonic structures and anchoring EJC on each exon junction. Skipping exon 12 has 5'GU, 3'AG and very compact folding pattern with frequency of 1 stem-loop per 12 nucleotides in short exon length (63 nucleotides). 5' end of exon 12 contains SS (Splicing Silencer) element of UAGGU. In exons 10, 15 and 17 where both regular and alternative splice sites exist, SS (hnRNP A1 binding site) is observed at the regular splicing site. End products are mature FMR-1 mRNP, 4 species of Pri-microRNAs derived from introns 7,9,15 and 3'UTR of exon17, respectively. There may also be some other regulatory RNAs containing ALU/Line elements as well.
