Background : Airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness are recognized as major characteristics of bronchial asthma. Airway inflammation has usually been assessed by invasive methods, e.g. BAL or bronchial biopsy, but recent studies proposed induced sputum as another reliable and non-invasive tool to investigate airway inflammation in asthmatic patients. Thus, the relationship between airway inflammation assessed by induced sputum and airway hyperresponsiveness was investigated in asthmatic patient. Method : Airway responsiveness was determined by the concentration that caused a 20% decrease in $FEV_1$($PC_{20}$) after inhaling incremental concentrations of methacholine. The numbers of inflammatory cells and the concentration of eosinophilic cationic protein(ECP) were assessed in induced sputum obtained by inhalation of hypertonic saline(3%). Result: We analyzed sputum induced in 15 stable asthmatic patients. The differential cell count(%) of macrophages, neutrophils, eosinophils and lymphocytes in induced sputum were $39.1{\pm}27.0%$, $29.6{\pm}21.0%$, $28.8{\pm}18.8%$, $1.3{\pm}3.1%$ respectively. The mean value of baseline FEV1(predicted) and ECP were $76.3{\pm}30.3%$ and $1,101{\pm}833{\mu}g/L$ respectively. The geometric mean value of $PC_{20}$ was 0.56 mg/mL. The relationships between the sputum eosinophil and ECP in induced sputum, and between sputum eosinophil and degree of airway responsiveness($PC_{20}$) were found to be significantly correlated (r=0.81, p<0.05 and r=-0.78, p<0.05, respectively). Sputum neutrophils and $PC_{20}$ were not correlated to each other (r=0.11, p=0.69) and a significant negative correlation was found between ECP and baseline $FEV_1$(predicted)(r=-0.62, p<0.05). Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that an induced sputum via a inhalation of hypertonic saline is useful to determine a patient's status of airway inflammation, and airway inflammation is one of the major causal factors in the development of bronchial hyperresponsiveness in asthmatic patients.
This study was carried out to develop safe and novel anticoagulation agents from oriental medicinal herbs. From 33 medicinal herbs, 40 different ethanol extracts were prepared according to place of origin or extraction parts, and anticoagulation activities were evaluated by determination of thrombin time (TT), prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). The average water content and average extraction ratio for the medicinal herbs were $6.85{\pm}2.26%$ and $5.27{\pm}4.25%$, respectively. Evaluation of TT at various concentrations of the extract led to the selection of Mucuna birdwoodiana, Prunus armeniaca, Cacalia ainsliaeiflora, Cinnamonum aromaticum, and Rhus javanica Linneas potent antithrombosis medicinal herbs. Evaluation of PT and aPTT showed that the extracts of R.javanica Linne, M. birdwoodiana, and P. armeniaca have strong anticoagulation activities. Determination of hemolytic activities of 40 different ethanol extracts against human red blood cells, however, showed that only M. birdwoodiana, C. ainsliaeiflora, C. aromaticum, and R. javanica Linnehas strong anticoagulation activity without hemolytic activity at a concentration of 500 mg/ml. Our results suggest that oriental medicinal herbs, which are under a mass-production system, have potentialas a safe and novel source of anticoagulants, as well being a thrombin-specific and coagulation factor-specific inhibitor.
Recently, Cesarean Section has been revealed as major events in maternity nursing, because it has influence on tile formatter of the self concept of cesarean section mothers as well as later coping mechanism and mother-child relationship including the mothering role. The study is conducted to clarify the relationships between the perceired family support and the self concept of cesarean section mothers, and to find out other Influencing factors on the formation of the self concept. Measuring instrument used in this study was Lee's scale to measure the self concept and the degree of perceived family support of the cesarean section mothers, The subject were 155 cesarean section mothers who were selected conveniently. Volunteers answered self reporting questionnaires which asked about their self concept. Data was analyzed as follows using SAS. The relationship between scores of the self concept and degree of the perceived family support was analyzed by Pearson's product moment correlation. In order to identify the influencing effects of demographic variables on the formation of self concept & F test were used. Result were summarized as follows : 1. Scores of self concept of cesarean section mothers were significantly correlated with scores of the perceived family support (r=0.3438, p<0.01) These results show that the family support is closely related to the self concept of cesarean mothers and has positive effects on their coping capacity. 2. Scores of self-concept of those who have lower ducation background and are multipara were significantly higher than those who have higher education background and are primipara(M=29.90$\pm$9.37, 27.69$\pm$3.89, t=2.006, df=105.8, p=0.0480: M=27.75$\pm$3.49. 29.46$\pm$8.68, t=-1.7183, 2. p=0.08).

Purpose: The study was conducted to investigate the correlation between perception of patient safety risk factors, patient safety competency, and safety nursing activities of nurses in hemodialysis units and identify factors affecting patient safety activities. Methods: The participants were 146 nurses from 16 hemodialysis units located in Gyeongsangnam-do. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS, version 24.0. Results: The mean safety nursing activity score was 3.47±0.38. safety nursing activities of the participants were significantly correlated with patient safety competency. The characteristics showing significant differences in safety nursing activities were educational level, hospital type, hospital work experience, number of hemodialysis treatment per day, number of hemodialysis treatment per nurse, educational experience of patient safety, presence of a patient safety incident report registration system, and direct registration of patient safety incident report. The multiple regression analysis revealed that the factors influencing safety nursing activities were patient safety incident report, patient safety competency, and number of daily hemodialysis treatment (<5~7 times/day) per nurse (R2=.34). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the safety nursing activities of hemodialysis unit nurses should be intensified. In addition, the registration system of patient safety incident report and nurses' competency on patient safety should be improved, and the number of hemodialysis per nurse should be fewer than 7 times per day.
This study generated regression models through a direct harvesting method to estimate carbon storage and uptake by Pinus densiflora and Pinus koraiensis, the major evergreen tree species in urban landscape, and established essential information to quantify carbon reduction by urban trees. Open-grown landscape tree individuals for each species were sampled reflecting various diameter sizes at a given interval. The study measured biomass for each part including the roots of sample trees to compute the total carbon storage per tree. Annual carbon uptake per tree was quantified by analyzing radial growth rates of stem samples at breast height. The study then derived a regression model easily applicable in estimating carbon storage and uptake per tree for the two species by using diameter at breast height (DBH) as an independent variable. All the regression models showed high fitness with $r^2$ values of higher than 0.98. While carbon storage and uptake by young trees tended to be greater for P. densiflora than for P. koraiensis in the same diameter sizes, those by mature trees with DBH sizes of larger than 20 cm showed results to the contrary due to a difference in growth rates. A tree of P. densiflora and P. koraiensis with DBH of 25 cm stored 115.6 kg and 130.0 kg of carbon, respectively, and annually sequestered 9.4 kg and 14.6 kg. The study has broken new grounds to overcome limitations of the past studies which quantified carbon reduction of the study species by substituting, due to a difficulty in direct cutting and root digging of landscape trees, coefficients from forest trees such as biomass expansion factors, ratios of below ground/above ground biomass, and diameter growth rates.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify multidimensional factors influencing burnout in intensive care unit(ICU) nurses. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used. Data were collected during February 2016 from a convenience sample of 222 tertiary hospital ICU nurses and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Burnout correlated positively with compassion fatigue (CF)(r=.37, p<.001), and negatively with compassion satisfaction (CS)(r=-.66, p<.001). The regression model explained 57% of the variance in burnout. For individual characteristics in the model, perceived health status (${\beta}=-.27$, p<.001) and gender (${\beta}=.14$, p=.028) were the most influential factors for ICU nurses' burnout. In the model with added work-related characteristics, nursing environment (${\beta}=-.22$, p=.001), perceived health status (${\beta}= -.20$, p=.001), and satisfaction with department (${\beta}=-.19$, p=.007) were the most influential factors. Finally, for the model with psychological characteristics added, CS (${\beta}=-.56$, p<.001) and CF (${\beta}=.35$, p<.001) were the most influential factors. Conclusion: Results reveal that most ICU nurses have a moderate level of CF and a moderate to high level of CS and burnout, and that individual, work-related and psychological factors are relevant in ICU nurses' burnout. Programs or interventions to reduce burnout should be developed taking into account these multidimensional factors.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the MBTI personality type, emotional intelligence, and stress coping strategies of nursing students and to examine the influence of these factors on their level of college adjustment. The subjects were 267 nursing students who are located in Chonnam city. The survey was conducted from March 6th to March 31st, 2017. The level of college adjustment showed a close correlation with the emotional intelligence(r=.29, p<.001) and stress coping strategies(r=.27, p<.001), and the level of MBTI personality type was not statistically insignificant in the nursing students. It was found that the effect of the emotional intelligence and stress coping strategies on the college life adjustment was 17.5%(F=8.03, p<.001). According to the results of this study, it is necessary to develop a systematic management program to integrate the educational curriculum and extra-curricular activities(in order to enhance the) emotional intelligence and stress coping strategies in nursing students. In addition, the type of psychological function and psychological temperament of the MBTI personality type were found not to have influenced the level of college adaptation of the nursing students and this should be confirmedin a large scale sample.

To establish the indoor-rearing system of the emma field cricket, Teleogryllus emma, the effects of temperature on development and reproduction of the emma cricket have been studied. The influence of temperature on developmental periods of emma field cricket was investigated under the eight temperatures of 15, 18, 21, 25, 27, 29, 31 and $35^{\circ}C$, under $60{\pm}5%$ R.H. and 16L:8D photoperiod. The developmental periods of T. emma nymphs had a range of 124.8 days to 44.4 days at the temperature of $21^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$, respectively. At $15^{\circ}C$ and $18^{\circ}C$, however, all tested individuals died before emergence. The highest survival rate was 90% at $25^{\circ}C$, but there were no statistically significant differences among the temperatures. The adult weight increased with increasing temperatures although the weight at $35^{\circ}C$ was decreased. In addition, the influence of temperature on reproduction of emma field cricket was investigated under three temperatures $22^{\circ}C,\;25^{\circ}C\;and\;28^{\circ}C$, under $60{\pm}5%$ R.H. and 16L:8D photoperiod. The longevity of female/male adults were 65.8/79.2 days, 68.5/67.8 days, 46.8/57.4 days at the temperature $22^{\circ}C,\;25^{\circ}C\;and\;28^{\circ}C$, respectively. The preoviposition periods were 32.5 days at $22^{\circ}C,\;22.9^{\circ}C$ days at $25^{\circ}C$ and 22.1 days at $28^{\circ}C$. The highest average fecundity per female was 737.3 at $25^{\circ}C$.
An alkalophilic mi.croorganism (strain YB380), which produces yeast cell wall hydrolase extracellulary, was isolated from Korean soil. The rod-shaped cells were 0.3~0.4 by 2~4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ long, motile, aerobic, gram-positive, and spore-forming. The color of the colony was light yellow. The temperature range for growth at pH 9.0 was 25 to $45{\circ}C, with optimum growth at $35{\circ}C. The pH range for growth at $35{\circ}C was 8 to 11 with an optimum pH of 9.0. Therefore, the strain YB380 is an obligate alkalophile. The 16S rRNA of strain YB380 has a 99% sequence similarity with that of Bacillus alcalophilus. On the basis of physiological properties, cell wall fatty acid composition, and phylogenetic analysis, we propose that the isolated strain is Bacillus alcalophilus. The yeast cell wall hydrolase from Bacillus alcalophilus subsp. YB380 has been purified and partially characterized. The molecular weight was estimated to be 27,000 daltons with an optimum temperature and pH of $60{\circ}C and 9.0, respectively. The N-terminal amino acid sequence of the enzyme was analyzed as Gln- Thr- Val- Pro- Trp- Gly- Ile- Asn- Arg- Val.
A survey for zearalenone contamination was conducted on 27 soy bean samples, 27 red bean samples, 16 black bean samples, 19 seoritae samples, 14 seomoktae samples, for a total of 127 commercial Korean samples. Zearalenone was quantified by the immunoaffinity column clean-up method with high performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD), and was confirmed by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS). The limits of detection and quantification were $2.0{\mu}g/kg$ and $6.0{\mu}g/kg$, respectively. The recovery in the beans ranged from 82.2 to 98.4%. According to HPLC-FLD, zearalenone was detected in 13 samples (10.2% incidence), including 1 soybean and 12 red bean samples. The zearalenone contamination levels were in the range of 8.01${\sim}38.98{\mu}g/kg$. Finally, LC-MS/MS analysis was conducted in the contaminated samples to verify the results of HPLC-FLD. The LC-MS/MS results confirmed the presence of zearalenone in all 13 samples. The contamination level was lower than that of EU, which is below $100{\mu}g/kg$ for raw grains.
