  • This paper measures and maps multi-dimensional residential segregation of immigrants in Seoul metropolitan area at city/county/district level as well as town level, thereby adding to our understanding of the urban structure and its spatial distribution impacted by immigration. The perspective offered here focuses on the segregation spurred by transnational migrants and their urban settlement. By drawing population data for 79 city/county/district administrative units from the Korea Immigration Service, residential segregation of immigrants in Seoul metropolitan area is measured based on Massey & Denton's four segregation indices: evenness, exposure, concentration and clustering. The empirical findings suggest that Seoul metropolitan area is highly segregated and the areas showing hyper-segregation appear in Seoul city and Gyeonggi province. As immigrants are foreseen to continue to increase in the future, this research contributes both empirically and theoretically to preliminary research on spatial segregation of immigrants by showing how ethnic places are segregated spatially through ethnic networks that support the geographic concentration of minority groups.

  • In order to investigate the seroprevalence of Salmonella Pullorum in boilers reared in Daejeon area, 509 samples were collected from 10 boiler farms randomly selected from 38. The survey was carried out during 6 months from April to October in 2007. Out of 509 chickens, 35 (6.9%) were seropositive and average titer was $2^{4.8}$. The seroprevalence by district was 5.5% (5/90) in Dong-gu, 4.1 % (4/96) in Seo-gu, 7.9% (24/303) in Yuseong-gu, 10.0% (2/20) in Daedeok-gu.

  • The main objective of this paper is to provide analysis of obesity index of residents in six metropolitan cities. According to analysis of $R{\ddot{o}}hrer$ Index, there was significant difference regionally between men and women in metropolitan cities. Through analysis of Drop Value, it was found that there were significant differences regionally between men and women in metropolitan cities on circumferences of chest, waist and buttocks. The result of this research can be utilized in manufacturing and design of uniforms and equipments for safety.

  • Since 1974, the first subway is constructed in Seoul metropolitan area, from 1985 country metropolitan subways have been built. But most country metropolitan subways cannot reach the goal of transportation sharing ratio and show a loss. In this paper, I investigate the issues of country metropolitan subways and present the methods to improve them focusing on strengthening transit network. At first, it is introduced that the method can complement incomplete network from insufficient subway lines. And I propose the consolidation method using KORAIL railway lines. Finally, the connecting method into subway missing area is presented with various transit systems like BRT, Guideway Bus and single railway line extension.

  • Recently, due to economic growth, living environment has been convenient and comfortable and so human activities were decreased. Consequently energy consumption was also decreased. Also the habit of food intake has been changed and the tendency of obesity has been increased. The main objective of this paper is to provide analysis of obesity index of residents in six metropolitan cities. According to analysis of $R\"{o}hrer$ Index, there were significant differences regionally between men and women in metropolitan cities. • Ten isolates of Verotoxin-producing Escherichia coli (VTEC) were detected in slaughtered cattle and investigated their phenotypic characteristics and antimicrobial susceptibility. None of the isolates was positive for eae gene. Only one isolate was positive for uidA gene. Eight out of ten isolates of VTEC were originated from broker's cattle. Thus microbiological monitoring for broker farms should be performed to minimize VTEC contamination. In the antimicrobial susceptibility test, all the isolates were highly resistant to bacitracin and lincomycin whilst they are susceptible to apramycin and neomycin.

  • Metropolitan transport demand has increased in Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) due to the expansion of its role and land use. Various public transport modes have to be supplied to relieve road congestions for the convenience of users. During the constructions of theses infrastructures some conflicts between the central government and local governments arise for sharing financial resources. In this study finance sharing criteria is developed for the metropolitan BRT, transfer facility, and public garages. Finally, a case study has been done for the metropolitan BRT between Cheongra and Hwagok area in SMA.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of Brachyspira hyodysenteriae from 43 swine farms with diarrhea or a history of diarrhea in Gyeongbuk province by PCR. The overall herd prevalence of B hyodysenteriae was 37.2%(16/43), and the average prevalence of B hyodysenteriae among all sampled pigs was 10.8%(50/462). Positive herds for B hyodysenteriae were distributed throughout Gyeongbuk province from 14.3~50%. Herd size had a effect on the frequency of B hyodysenteriae. The frequency of B hyodysenteriae in herds with less than 1,000 pigs was 47.4%, that of herds between 1,001 and 2,000 pigs was 41.7%. Also, the frequency of B hyodysenteriae in herds with more than 2,000 pigs was 16.7%.

  • This study was attempted to survey on the prevalence of canine heartworm infection (Dirofilaria immitis) in the Incheon area in 2006. This study showed comparative infection rates of canine heartworm in conjunction with different geographic locations and rearing environments (i.e., indoor, outdoor or free roaming). In total, 24 dogs (6.0%) were D. immitis positive among a total of 400 tested dogs. The geographic distribution of detection rates was Nam-gu (2 dogs, 6.7%), Yeonsu-gu (1 dog, 3.0%), Namdonggu (5 dogs, 8.0%), Pupyoung-gu (4 dogs, 6.7%), Kanghwa-gun (8 dogs, 13.0%), and Onjin-gun (4 dogs, 11.1%). In addition, 4 dogs (2.0%) or 20 dogs (10.0%) were positive for D. immitis among 202 indoor dogs or 198 outdoor dogs including free roaming dogs, respectively, while 13 dogs (11.7%) were positive for D. immitis among 111 outdoor dogs excluding free roaming dogs. In the case of 87 free roaming dogs, 7 dogs (8.1%) among them were positive for D. immitis.

  • Botulism in wild waterfowl has been reported in many areas of the world. In 18 October 2008 to 22, 101 dead wild ducks were found in Anyangcheon. 24 of dead birds were spotbill (Anas poeilorhyncha), 56 were Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), 18 were green- winged teal (Anas carolinensis) and 3 were others. Clinical sign of the sick birds were flaccid paralysis of the neck. At autopsy, most birds had no specific lesions. Stomach is empty. In the mouse bioassay, Samples of serum and intestinal contents taken from 9 dead birds killed all the injected mice, and their toxicity was neutralized by the antitoxin against C. botulinum type C toxin.
