An Analysis of Conditions for Candidate trains for CBTC Evaluation Tests (CBTC 시험을 위한 시험열차 조건 분석)

  • In this paper we investigated a variety of candidate trains in KORAIL and Seoul Metro Corp. for an experimental driving which would be in the prosecution of making functional and performance experimentation for the specified manual by this project. We examined many preliminary out-of-service trains and some kinds of spare trains to secure two composition of test-trains for CBTC evaluation and studied a remaking scheme to convert control vehicles of these trains to CBTC-functioned ones to choose a most suitable ones of them, so we will be make traveling tests on the test railroad with them.

  • Gyeong-bu railway line in Korea between Seoul and Cheon-an was built as two double tracks. A four-display signaling system, only for the metro line, was installed on the second double track so KTX and conventional trains can only operate on the first double track. This study suggests a method to allow KTX and conventional trains operated on the five-display signaling system to respond to accidents and track defects on the second double-track under the four-display signal system by means of problem analysis, calculation of breaking distances for KTX and conventional trains at each break mode, and improvement of the ATS system.

  • The Wolmi Eunha-Rail in Incheon is connecting Wolmido and Incheon Station with an elevated monorail road supported by piers. This railroad system is characterized by driverless automatic operation and moving-block based control. The main technology applied to this signal-controlled system is CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) which based on wireless communications. The CBTC system is simple in that composition so that can minimize field facilities and lowers costs of construction and maintenance. This CBTC system is emerging as a major signal-controlled system in the future metro market.

  • This paper deals with power integration of large urban railway systems for improvement of regenerative energy utilization. The main idea of this paper is that the integration of railway power systems will increase efficiency through sharing regenerative energy. To verify the effects of this system, case studies for Seoul Metro Line has been performed. Where railway data of Seoul Subway Line 5 and Line 7 are used. In this work, the integrated railway system is modelled using Compaq Visual Fortran.

  • Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a methodology of computing the relative efficiency of each decision making unit (DMU) by comparing it with other DMUs having similar input and output structure. In this paper, we compare the efficiency of Korean rail transit corporations using DEA. To do this, we design a DEA-AR/AHP model, and evaluate efficiency by comparing the subway operating agencies of six big cities. The analysis reveals that Seoul Metro and Seoul city railroad construction turn out to be the most efficient groups. The result of this research can provide helpful information for effective management in a domestic subway operating agency.

  • Urban has been operating Korail and the local autonomous entity in Korea. Over 70 LRTs will be constructed in the future, but it is hard to manage them due to structural deficit from construction debt, so Public finance plays a very important role in order to overcome a deficit. Therefore, it is necessary to plan detailed analysis and planned system about the expenditure of the amount which is borrowed from country and local government and business income from railroad companies like government grants, PSO. This research wishes to grasp the problem and present model about reasonable and efficient financial program, analyzing about increasing import and expenses of Urban.

An Introductory Study on Imperfect Maintenance Effect in Rolling Stocks

  • The maintenance effect is a peculiar factor applied to repairable systems such as rolling stocks. Conventional statistical analysis for failure times takes into account one of the two following extreme assumptions, namely, the state of the system after maintenance is either as "good as new" (GAN, perfect maintenance model) or as "bad as old" (BAO, minimal maintenance model). Most of the papers concerning the stochastic behavior of railroad systems assume two types of maintenance: perfect and minimal maintenance. However, Lee, Kim & Lee (2008) analyzed the failure data of a door system in Metro EMU and the effect of preventive maintenance was imperfect. It is seen that the imperfect maintenance is of great significance in practice. This article describes how to deal with the maintenance effect in reliability studies of rolling stocks. Maintenance policies under imperfect maintenance are described and the method is proposed to evaluate their performance.

  • Before the Flap type GATE is introduced until, the Turnstile type GATE was plentifully used. The Turnstile type GATE is used plentifully from the Seoul metro, Busan Transportation Corporation and Korea Railroad Corporation. From the Turnstile type GATE, the micro switch breakdown is occurred by the contact of the micro switch which perceives a Turnstile rotation and the cam. The breakdown is cause of the passenger inconveniently. In order to prevent the breakdown which is caused by Micro switch contact, Microswitch support used the sensor in Turnstile rotation perception. The sensor which is used in test is Photo Sensor and Reed Sensor two type. The test result Reed Sensor was suitable in underground environment.   • Operation a subway company requires high amount of early construction, operation and maintenance costs. Seoul Metro, one of the public subway companies in Seoul, Korea, has undergone operational deficit from its establishment, and the main reason is that the early construction and operation cost exceed the total revenue. Therefore, detailed researches on current operation system and possible alternatives are conducted to settle down finance trouble of the company. In particular, problems on operation and ticketing systems are analyzed, and based on that, necessity and detailed plan of railroad pass for one day are introduced and analyzed.
