  • Structural morphology, annealing behavior and dielectric properties of polyaniline-emeraldine base (Pani-EB) and poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) thin films prepared by spin coating technique have been studied. MIM and MISM structures were used to investigate annealing and dielectric behavior. The XRD and AFM spectrum of as grown and annealed thin films indicates the amorphous nature. The observed amorphous phase, low loss, dielectric behavior and thermal stability even at high temperatures implies the feasibility of utilizing PMMA and Pani-EB thin films as gate dielectric insulator layer in organic thin film transistors which can find application in flat panel display.

  • We investigated solution-processed indium-yttrium-oxide (IYO) TFTs using apoly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) passivation layer. The IYO semiconductor solution was prepared with 0.1 M indium nitrate hydrate and 0.1 M yttrium acetate dehydrate as precursor solutions. The solution-processed IYO TFTs showed good performance: field-effect mobility of $13.13cm^2/Vs$, a threshold voltage of 8.2 V, a subthreshold slope of 0.93 V/dec, and a current on-to-off ratio of $7.2{\times}10^6$. Moreover, the PMMA passivation layers used to protectthe IYO active layer of the TFTs, did so without deteriorating their performance under ambient conditions; their operational stability and electrical properties also improved by decreasing leakage current.

  • Multi -walled carbon nanotube(MWNT)/poly(methyl methacrylate) composites were fabricate d through film casting. Manufacturing process was established using a ultrasonic cleaner and a homogenizer. Acetone was used as a solvent to melt PMMA and mix with MWNT. The ultrasonic cleaner performed an important role in producing MWNT/MMA nanocomposites. Ultrasonic energy was utilized to disperse MWNT in acetone. Also, melting PMMA in acetone and mixing MWNT and PMMA were achieved using the homogenizer. It was confirmed that the nanohlbes were well dispersed in PMMA according to SEM images.

  • The variable optical attenuator based on side polished fiber technique was experimentally demonstrated. Various combination mixtures of poly(vinylidene fluoride) and poly(methyl methacrylate) have been used as the overlay waveguide materials for the variable optical attenuator application. A controllable amount of optical power can be extracted via evanescent coupling by changing the temperature of the polymer mixture, thereby changing its refractive index. The VOA under test provides a maximum attenuation of 30 ㏈ and an insertion loss of 0.1 ㏈.

  • Transesterification reactions (methyl methacrylate with monoethanolamine, methyl methacrylate with n-butyl alcohol, dimethylphthalate with ethylene glycol, dimethyl phthalate with monoethanolamine) were kinetically investigated in the presense of various metal acetate catalysts at $110^{\circ}C$. The amount of reactants was measured by gas and liquid chromatography, and the reaction rates also measured from the amount of reaction products and reactants upon each catalyst. The transesterification reactions were carried out under the first order conditions respect to the concentration of reactants, respectively. The overall reaction order was 2nd, Maximum reaction rates were appeared at the range of 1.4 to 1.6 in electronegativity of metal ions and maximum catalytic activities were obserbed at the range of 1.5 to 1,8 in instability constant of metal acetates.

  • The drug release property from the coated tablets which contain 291mg of acetylsalicylic acid were estimated from comparison of the blood level and the urinary excretions after oral ingestion of coated tablets and noncoated tablet in human. The coating materials are 2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine-methylacrylic acid copolymer(MPM), dimethyl aminoethyl methacrylate methyl methacrylate copolymer(EE), polyvinyl acetal diethyl aminoacetate(AEA), and shellac. Each of 7 subjects ingested 873mg of acetylsaliylic acid. All tablets are coated approximately $3.5{\pm}0.5%(w/w)$ per tablet with each of the coating materials and met K.P.II. standard for potency and disintegration time. The availability was decreased in the following order:MPM coated tablets>EE coated tablets>AEA coated tablets>> shellac coated tablets.

  • Transient conduction current (I - t characteristics) were measured in thin PPMMA (plasma-polymerized methyl methacrylate) films over the temperature range $60^{\circ}C-140^{\circ}C$ and the applied voltage range 3V - 30V. The current, which increased with temperature rise at constant applied voltage, showed less absorption current (current decay with time) at higher temperature region compared with those at lower temperature region. And the current, which increased with applied voltage rise at the constant temperature, showed less absorption current at higher voltage compared with those at lower voltage. The electric field current density characteristic curves were abtained from the conduction current values were after applying voltage for 30 minutes. And transient conduction currents were analyzed with high field conduction theories.

  • In this study, gel polymer electrolytes (GPE) with semi-interpenerating network of poly (methyl methacrylate) and hexanediol dimethacrylate were synthesized and their electrochemical performances were evaluated. LiCoO$_2$/GPE/graphite cells were prepared and their performances depending on discharge currents and temperatures were evaluated. The precursor containing 5 vol% curable mixture had a low viscosity relatively. GPE showed good electrochemical stability up to potential of 4.8 V vs. Li/Li$\^$+/. Ionic conductivity of the gel polymer electrolyte at room temperature and -20$^{\circ}C$ was ca. 5.9 and 1.4${\times}$10$\^$-3/ Scm$\^$-1/, respectively. LiCoO$_2$/GPE/graphite cells showed good rate capability, low-temperature performance and cycleability.

  • Thermoplastic fusion bonding is widely used to seal polymer microfluidic devices and optimal bonding protocol is required to obtain a successful bonding, strong bonding force without channel deformation. Besides, UV modification of the PMMA (poly-methyl methacrylate) is commonly used for chemical or biological application before the bonding process. However, study of thermal bonding for the UV modified PMMA was not reported yet. Unlike pristine PMMA, the optimal bonding parameters of the UV modified PMMA were $103^{\circ}C$, 71 kPa, and 35 minutes. A very low aspect ratio micro channel (AR=1:100, $20{\mu}m$ depth and $2000{\mu}m$ width) was successfully bonded (over 95%, n>100). Moreover, thermal bonding of multi stack PMMA chips was successfully demonstrated in this study. The results may applicable to fabricate a complex 3 dimensional microchannel networks.

  • In order to determine the monomer reactivity ratio in copolymerization of acrolein, the copolymerization of acrolein with styrene, methyl methacrylate and vinyl acetate respectively was studied. The Q and e value of acrolein in each copolymerization were also calculated from those of monomer reactivity ratios, but the calculated values were slightly different from each other. The Q and e of acrolein for the system of acrolein-styrene copolymerization were Q = O.64 and e = O.62 respectively. Relations among the Q and e value, the composition and structure of copolymers and the mean sequence length in copolymerization were also discussed for acrolein copolymers.
