The multi-films of a metallic film and a transparent conducting oxide (TCO, indium-tin oxide, ITO) film were formed on the stainless steel 316 and 304 plates by a sputtering method and an E-beam method and then the external metallic region of the stainless steel bipolar plates was converted into the metal nitride films through an annealing process. The multi-film formed on the stainless steel bipolar plates showed the XRD patterns of the typical indium-tin oxide, the metallic phase and the metal substrate and the external nitride film. The XRD pattern of the thin film on the bipolar plates modified showed two metal nitride phases of CrN and $Cr_2N$ compound. Surface microstructural morphology of the multi-film deposited bipolar plates was observed by AFM and FE-SEM. The metal nitride film formed on the stainless steel bipolar plates represented a microstructural morphology of fine columnar grains with 10 nm diameter and 60nm length in FE-SEM images. The electrical resistivity of the stainless steel bipolar plates modified was evaluated.

In this study, the cooling performance of a C/C composite material structure with metallic cooling tubes fixed by elastic force without chemical bonding was evaluated experimentally using combustion gas in a rocket combustor. The C/C composite chamber was covered by a stainless steel outer shell to maintain its airtightness. Gaseous hydrogen as a fuel and gaseous oxygen as an oxidizer were used for the heating test. The surface of these C/C composites was maintained below 1500 K when the combustion gas temperature was about 2900 K and heat flux to the combustion chamber wall was about 9 $MW/m^2$. No thermal damage was observed on the stainless steel tubes which were in contact with the C/C composite materials. Results of the heating test showed that such a metallic-tube-cooled C/C composite structure is able to control the surface temperature as a cooling structure(also as a heat exchanger), as well as indicating the possibility of reducing the amount of the coolant even if the thermal load to the engine is high. Thus, application of the metallic-tube-cooled C/C composite structure to reusable engines such as a rocket-ramjet combined cycle engine is expected.

As metallic surface has its unique lustrous appearance and optical reflectance in visible range of light, the metallization of plastic surface has been an essential drive toward weight reduction for fuel economy and decorations in transportation industry and has been put into practiced from wet chemical-electrochemial to dry vacuum process in view of an environmental effect. Electron-beam metallization was used in this work with an aim at improving the scratchproof surface hardness of plastic substrate with metallic finish character. Thin film of Al ($1000\AA$) and $SiO_2$($7000\AA$) were metallized on substrate of PC and PMMA and the films were evaluated by pencil test for surface hardness and by cross-cut tape test for adhesion. The ion beam treatment improved around twice as hard as non-treat surface. The ion beam is effect on its hardness and adhesion to surface hardened PC substrate.

We used Cu as a representative of metals to be directly adsorbed on the bare Si surface and studied its removal DHF, DHF-$H_2O_2$ and BHF solution. It has been found that Cu ion in DHF adheres on every Si wafer surface that we used in our study (n, p, n+, p+) especially on the n+-Si surface. The DHF-$H_2O_2$ solution is found to be effective in removing metals featuring high electronegativity such as Cu from the p-Si and n-Si wafers. Even when the DHF-$H_2O_2$ solution has Cu ions at the concentration of 1ppm, the solution is found effective in cleaning the wafer. In the case the n+-Si and p+-Si wafers, however, their surfaces get contaminated with Cu When Cu ion of 10ppb remains in the DHF-$H_2O_2$ solution. When BHF is used, Cu in BHF is more likely to contaminate the n+-Si wafer. It is also revealed that the surfactant added to BHF improve wettability onto p-Si, n-Si and p+-Si wafer surface. This effect of the surfactant, however, is not observed on the n+-Si wafer and is increased when it is immersed in the DHF-$H_2O_2$ solution for 10min. The rate of the metallic contamination on the n+-Si wafer is found to be much higher than on the other Si wafers. In order to suppress the metallic contamination on every type of Si surface below 1010atoms/cm2, the metallic concentration in ultra pure water and high-purity DHF which is employed at the final stage of the cleaning process must be lowered below the part per trillion level. The DHF-$H_2O_2$ solution, however, degrades surface roughness on the substrate with the n+ and p+ surfaces. In order to remove metallic impurities on these surfaces, there is no choice at present but to use the $NH_4OH-H_2O_2-H_2O$ and $HCl-H_2O_2-H_2O$ cleaning.

Recently, plasma surface-cleaning or surface-etching techniques have been focused in respect of the decontamination of spent or used nuclear parts and equipment. In this study the removal rate of metallic cobalt surface is experimentally investigated via its surface etching rate with a $CF_4-o_2$mixed gas plasma. Experimental results reveal that a mixed etchant gas with about 80% $CF_4$-20% $O_2$ (molar) gives the highest reaction rate and the rate reaches 0.06 ${\mu}m$/min at $380^{\circ}C$ and ion-assisted etching dramatically enhances the surface reaction rate. With a negative 300 V DC bias voltage applied to the substrate, the surface reaction initiation temperature lowers and the rate increases about 20 times at $350^{\circ}C$ and up to 0.43 ${\mu}m$/min at $380^{\circ}C$, respectively. Surface morphology analysis confirms the etching rate measurements. Auger spectrum analysis clearly shows the adsorption of fluorine atoms on the reacted surface. From the current experimental findings and the results discussed in previous studies, mechanistic understanding of the surface reaction, fluorination and/or fluoro-carbonylation reaction, is provided.
Plasmonic-based biosensing technologies have been successfully commercialized and applied for monitoring various biomolecular interactions occurring at a sensor surface. In particular, the recent advances in nanofabrication methods and nanoparticle syntheses provide a new route to overcome the limitations of a conventional surface plasmon resonance biosensor, such as detection limit, sensitivity, selectivity, and throughput. In this paper, optical and physical properties of plasmonic nanostructures and their contributions to a realization of enhanced optical detection platforms are reviewed. Following vast surveys of the exploitation of metallic nanostructures supporting localized field enhancement, we will propose an outlook for future directions associated with a development of new types of plasmonic sensing substrates

The interaction between adherent molecules and gas molecules was modeled in molecular scale and simulated by the molecular dynamics method in order to understand the evaporation and removal processes of adherent molecules on metallic surface using high temperature gas flow. Methanol molecules were chosen as adherent molecules to investigate effects of adhesion quantify and gas molecular collisions because the industrial oil has too complex structures of fatty acid. The effects of adherent quantify, gas temperature and surface temperature for the evaporation rate of adherent molecules and the molecular removal mechanism were investigated and discussed in the present study. Evaporation and removal rates of adherent molecules from metallic surface calculated by the molecular dynamics method showed the similar dependence on surface temperature shown in the experimental results.
To investigate size distribution and metallic elements of surface sediments in Hampyong Bay, the southwestern coast of Korea, sedimentological and geochemical studies on surface sediments are carried out. The surface sediments of Hampyong Bay are classified into gravel, muddy sandy gravel, gravelly muddy sand, gravelly sandy mud, mud facies in accordance with areal characteristics. The coarse sediments are distributed on the subtidal zone along the main tidal channel and southeast intertidal flat of Hampyong Bay. On the other hand, the fine sediments are dominated in northeast and west intertidal flat of Hampyong Bay. Most metallic elements except for Ba in the sediments are closely interrelated with fine sediments and mutually with each element. Ba is maybe related with sandy sediments and inversely related with carbonate contents. Normalized by Al content, the sediment do not show any remarkable metal enrichments influenced by resonable artificial or environmental factors.

The effect of trace metallic additives on microstructure, glossiness and hardness of Zinc electrodeposits was investigated by using sulfate bath and flow cell system. The preferred orientation of Zn deposits with Mg-Fe additives was (10$\ell$)+(002) mixed texture, while that of Zn deposits with Mg-Fe-Cr additives was ( $10\ell$). The preferred orientation of Zn deposits with Mg-Fe-X(X:Ni,Co) additives changed from ($10\ell$)+(002) to ($10\ell$) with increasing Mg additive from 5 to 10 g/$\ell$. The surface morphology of the Zinc deposits was closely related to the preferred orientation of the deposits. The glossiness of Zn deposits with Mg-Fe additives was similar to that of pure Zn deposit. The glossiness of Zn deposits with Mg-Fe-X(X:Ni,Cr) additives was lower than that of Zn deposits with Mg-Fe additives, while that of Zn deposits with Mg-Fe-Co additives was higher than that of Zn-Mg-Fe deposits. The hardness of Zn deposits with Mg-Fe-X(Ni,Co,Cr) increased with current density and amount of Mg additive. Hardness of Zn deposits was decreased and increased in comparison with Zn-Mg-Fe deposits for Mg-Fe-Co and Mg-Fe-Cr additives, respectively.
Pt-Ru and Pt-Ni bimetallic catalysts were prepared and tested for heavy hydrocarbon reforming. Metals were supported on CGO($Ce_{0.8}Gd_{0.2}O_{2.0-x}$) by incipient wetness method. The prepared catalysts were characterized by Temperature programmed reduction(TPR). Oxidative steam reforming of n-dodecane was conducted to compare the activity of the catalysts. The reforming temperature was varied from $500^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$ at fixed $O_2$/C of 0.3, $H_2O$/C of 3.0 and GHSV of 5,000/h.Reduction peaks of metal oxide, surface CGO and bulk CGO were detected. Reduction temperature of metal oxide decreased over the bi-metallic catalysts. It is considered that interaction between metals leads to decrease interaction between metal and oxygen. On the other hands, reduction temperatures of surface CGO were dectected in the order of Pt-Ru > Pt-Ni > Pt. low reduction temperatures of surface CGO indicates the low activation energy for oxygen ion conduction to metal. Oxygen ion conduction is known as de-coking mechanism of ionic conducting supports such as CGO. In activity test, fuel conversion was in the same order of Pt-Ru > Pt-Ni > Pt. Especially, 100% of fuel conversion was obtained over Pt-Ru catalysts at $500^{\circ}C$.
