Chelating solutions can be damaged by strong acids during oil production. To design effective corrosion inhibitors and other alternatives for corrosion control, it is important to understand not only the behavior of the system under operating condition but also the kinetics of electrochemical reactions during the corrosion process. In this study, the electrochemical behaviors of P-110 steel in aqueous fluids based on ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) compounds under various temperatures and hydrodynamic regime conditions were assessed. Electrochemical measurements were conducted using rotating disc electrodes manufactured. Electrolytes were prepared using aqueous compounds of EDTA like diammonium salt, disodium salt, and tetrasodium salt. Potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance, and mass loss tests were performed in order to assess the corrosion kinetic in electrolytes. Hydrodynamic effects were observed only in the cathodic polarization curve. This proves that hydrodynamic regime plays an important role in the corrosion of steel mainly in disodium and diammonium EDTA solutions. Two cathodic reactions controlled the corrosion process. However, oxygen level and pH of the electrolyte played the most important role in metal corrosion. Corrosion rates in those fluids were decreased drastically when oxygen concentration was reduced.

Fundamental aspects of creating passivation layers for corrosion resistance in nuclear engineering applications, specifically the ability to form complete layers versus porous ones, are being explored in this study. Utilizing a laser ablation technique, 1,064 nm fire at 10 Hz with 60 pulses per shot and 0.5 mm between impact points, aluminum samples are treated in an attempt to create a fully formed passivation layer that will be tested in a LiCl-KCl eutectic salt. By placing these samples into an electrochemical environment mimicking a pyroprocessing system, corrosion rates, resistances and material characteristics are tested for one week and then compared between treated and untreated samples. In initial testing, linear sweep voltammetry indicates corrosion current density for the untreated sample at -0.038 mA·cm-2 and treated samples at -0.024 mA·cm-2 and -0.016 mA·cm-2, respectively. This correlates to a control sample corrosion rate of -0.205 mm·yr-1 and treated rates of -0.130 mm·yr-1 and -0.086 mm·yr-1 for samples 1 and 2. In addition, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy circuits show application of a longer-lasting porous passivation layer on the treated metal, compared to the naturally forming layer. However, the current technique fails to create a uniform protection layer across the sample.

Concerns remain regarding the biocompatibility and adverse effects of dental casting alloys. The aim of this study was to understand the cytopathogenic effect of metal ions, which might be released from dental alloys, on oral squamous carcinoma(OSC) cells. The cellular morphology, viability, the type of cell death and molecular change in response to metal ion salt solutions including aluminum(Al), cobalt(Co), copper(Cu) and nickel(Ni) were examined. The $TC_{50}$ values for the metal ions with the exception of AI were estimated to be between 400 and $600{\mu}M$. The cells treated with the metal ions showed apoptotic change with the exception of Al ions. Metal ion-induced apoptosis was further confirmed using flow cytometric analysis. This study showed that the cytotoxicity and the mode of cell death by metal ions clearly depend on the cell type, the type of metal ion and the duration of exposure. The protein level of Rb, a tumor suppressor that affects apoptosis para-doxically, was higher in the cells treated with Co, Cu and Ni. It is believed that apoptosis and cell damage in the OSC cells treated with Co, Cu or Ni can be evoked by the regulation of Rb.
Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are now broadly understood as a new kind of ionic liquid (IL) because they exhibit many characteristics and properties similar with ILs. The DESs made of quaternary ammonium salt blended with one of hydrogen bonding donor (HBD) compounds behave as ILs even at very low temperature. In this study, properties such as density, viscosity, surface tension, conductivity, and electrochemical behavior of DESs were reported and their applications were reviewed. Study on DESs has been drawn attention on application in metal finishing, but these solvents can be used in a variety of synthesis, and their potentials have been demonstrated in various areas. DESs are expected to offer applicability by extending the types of salts and hydrogen bond donor mixtures.
Various characteristics of ion transport properties of a charged mosaic membrane with a parallel array of positive and negative functional charges were investigated, From the analysis of the volume flux, it was found that the salt flux based on nonequilibrium thermodynamics, preferential salt transport across the charged mosaic membrane. Transport properties of the magnesium sulfate(MgSO$_4$) and sucrose across the charged mosaic membrane were estimated. As a result, metal salts transport depended largely on the charged states and molecular weight otherwise nonelectrolyte solution was rejected under all experimental conditions. On the other hand, the reflection coefficient s indicated the negative value that suggested preferential material transport and was independent of charged mosaic thickness.
An enrichment/separation system for atomic absorption spectrometric determinations of Cu(Ⅱ), Fe(Ⅲ), Ni(Ⅱ) and Co(Ⅱ) has been established. The procedure is based on the adsorption of the analytes as calmagite chelates on Chromosorb-102. The effects of some parameters including pH, amount of ligand, salt matrix, flow rates of sample and eluent solutions were investigated. Under optimized conditions, the relative standard deviation of the combined method of sample treatment, preconcentration and determination with FAAS (N=5) is generally lower than 5%. The limit of detection (3σ) was between 6.0-112.9 ㎍/L. The results were used for preconcentration of analytes from some sodium and ammonium salt.
The electrode potential characteristics of a YSZ based membrane metal oxide electrode have been studied in molten LiCL at $700^{\circ}C$ by the potentiometric method. The electrode exhibited a good potential response to log[$O^2$] and data reproducibility. The calibration plot (potential vs. log[$O^2$] was found to be linear, obeying the Nernst equation. The electrode potential showed a good reversibility corresponding to increase/decrease of the oxide ion present in the molten LiCl. The physical and chemical durability appeared to be sound after several repeated uses, resulting in reproducible results. However, "the proposed electrode" failed when metallic Li was present in the melt.

Electrochemical behaviors of Nb ion in the $LiCl-KCl-NbCl_5$ molten salt were examined. Cyclic voltammograms with different scan rates and scan range at $450^{\circ}C$ showed possible electrochemical redox reactions which were identified by comparison to the literature data. Peak potentials for each redox reaction were consistent with the literature, but some redox reactions were not clearly defined due to the formation of subchloride compound in chloride salt. The electrochemical behaviors of Nb ion related to the subchloride formation as well as Nb metal deposition will be investigated for the future work.
The 14-membered tetraaza macrocyclic ligand 1,8-diethyl-5,12-dimethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclote tradeca-4,11-diene(B) can be synthesized as its dihydroperchlorate salt by the one-pot reaction of 2-ethylaminoethylamine, methylvinyl ketone, and perchloric acid in absolute ethanol. The reaction of Ni(II) or Cu(II) ion and the salt yields $[M(B)]^{2+}$ (M = Ni(II) or Cu(II)), which reacts with $NaBH_4$ to produce $[M(D)]^{2+}$ (D = 1,8-diethyl-5,12-dimethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclote tradecane). The complexes $[M(L)]^{2+}$ (L = B or D) have planar geometry and contain two ethyl groups at the donor nitrogen atoms of the ligands. The red solids $[Cu(B)](X)_2(X)$ = $ClO_4-$ or $PF_6^-$) react with water molecules of atmospheric moisture to produce the purple solids in which water molecules are coordinated to the metal ion. Synthesis, characterization, and the properties of the new N-ethylated macrocyclic ligands and their Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes are reported.

Generally, as corrosive protection processing of a steel structure, zinc galvanizing and heavy duty coating paint are applied. However, zinc galvanizing has the difficulty of restriction of a size, or on-site construction. Moreover, heavy duty coating paint has a problem with many administrative and maintenance expenses with short problem of adhesion, corrosion generating of a damage portion, and maintenance management cycle. In this study, a salt water spray test, CASS test, and the electrochemistry examination were carried out for the thermal metal spray method of construction for corrosive protection performance evaluation. Moreover, the corrosive protection life of a thermal metal spray method of construction was quantitatively calculated on the basis of this experiment. in consideration of LCC, the economical efficiency of a general corrosive protection method of construction and a thermal metal corrosive protection method of construction was compared. Consequently, although initial construction expense was estimated 16 to $30\%$ high, as for a thermal metal spray method of construction, it turns out that the administrative and maintenance expenses for 100 years became cheap 9.3 to 13 or more times.
