A Study on the Visualization Method for Figurative Art of Sculptures Using Metallic Materials - Based on the purpose of displaying in the residential complex (금속재료를 활용한 조형물의 비유적 이미지 시각화 방법 연구 - 주거 단지 전시를 목적으로)

  • As the quality of our life has improved, residential complexes have become more diverse now. Modern residential complexes function as a place for meeting and communication between families and neighbors, including parks, lakes, and promenades, and exhibiting sculptures in residential spaces has become an important component. This study was conducted for the purpose of researching the design development method for the sculptures displayed in the residential space in accordance with these changes and demands of the era. Through the process of visualizing the figurative arts with metal and stone used as materials, the artist's thoughts and messages were put in the sculpture and the arts were completed as the shape of the sculpture that viewers could sympathize with. This design and formative research shows the possibility that various visual elements for sympathy with the creator's thoughts can be formed in a place with the specificity of living space by using a figurative visualization method. Therefore, further researches on figurative art of sculptures are required.

  • Using the 3D printing method in the product manufacturing is a very innovative and useful technology. However, in the field of jewelry, it is a limited technology used only in a field of manufacturing process. To overcome this limitations in the jewelry production process, most popular and easy 3D printing method was selected, and the printing time and condition was limited. In this study, to find out the 3D printing method applicability to jewelry work manufacturing, the prototypes through casting and non-casting methods were completed and compared. As a result, the FDM printing method has a very positive advantage in terms of cost and time, but there is a disadvantage that the layered structure is not erased on the surface and the completeness of the surface forming is poor due to the residue of the filament generated during the printing process. The DLP printing method has the advantage that the surface treatment is even and completion is high, while the cost and time are inefficient. However, both printing methods were found to be suitable for the use of jewelry manufacturing, and if the efficient printing method was selected for the design of the jewelry in the future, better work research could be conducted.

  • There are symbolicity and special meaning in the materials which are supposed to be used metalcraft from ancient to present. These are basical resources of hermeneutics and play a role as moaning elements. Generally, the precious Cold and Silver are mainly to be used with precious stone. But recently, ordinary materials like glass iron aluminum has begun to be used with them. Several artists are intentionally using them, and special skills which could be revealed by only the matherials are developing by them. In these skill, there are original material's texture and character of matter are looking like other matter. Well, special skills are adapted in these matters to magnify the possibility of expression, the originally codified meaning resources are disturbed. For example, The metal craft artist June Schwarcz is using the skills of electroforming, copper foiling, enameling, wire brush patina, fine wires fusing, etc. He is doing abstract forming and making various textures. And his works are very big size, and done by the skills of painting and sculpture. The outer form is very structural, special touches of the artists are heterogeneously mixed with the symbolic abstract expressionism color field. Further, there are mixed with Primitive original life atmosphere, Medieval ornamental aspect, Minimal, and Chaotic aspects. The meaning particles of these aspects are directly/indirectly joined but special skills and basic material languages are mixed together, the originally codified material language are disturbed. These disturbed material languages are becoming optically special effect and be illusion. It is making expressing way of tile metalcraft more fertile and be infinite.

A Scientific Analysis of Decorative Metal Foil Used in Pouch for the Sutra Embroidered with a Sun and Moon Design Designated as National Folklore Cultural Heritage (국가민속문화재 일월수 다라니 주머니 금속 장식지의 과학적 분석)

  • Through scientific analysis, this study identified the material characteristics of metal foil decorating the border line and knotting of the National Folklore Cultural Heritage 'Pouch for the Sutra Embroidered with a Sun and Moon Design'. Through Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy results, it was estimated that silver (Ag) and sulfur (S) were present in the metal foil, and silver leaf was also attached to the medium. S may discolor Ag from yellow to black depending on its concsentration and contact time. Yellow color could not be identified in metal foil at present. But there existed an example of the preparation of a gold-colored flat silver thread; therefore, further research is needed to estimate the original color. The lamella was reddish brown on the back. Aluminum, silicon, and iron were also detected and were the main components found in red soil. This is believed to be the red adhesive in traditional flat gold thread and is considered to be an adhesive-related component of the metal foil. From the gas chromatography mass spectrometry results, the adhesive component was confirmed to be animal glue.

Development of the Ag/Cu Ingots for Mokumegane Jewelry (모꾸메가네 장신구를 위한 은/동 접합 잉곳 소재 개발)

  • Mokumegane is one of the sophisticated metal craft techniques enabling wood grain surface effect. To embody the mokumegane, an ingot of well-bonded stacked metal plates has been required. Traditionally prepared mokumegane ingots were bonded using charcoal which enables reduction atmosphere, but sometimes end up with collapse of bonding interface due to the lack of reliable process control. We proposed a systematic vacuum direct bonding process for ingots. First, we confirmed copper//copper homogeneous plate bonding at $900^{\circ}C$ by applying uniaxial press of 2.5kg. We observed 80min required to obtain 90%-bonding ratio and the diffusion coefficient would be enhanced up to 100 times due to surface effect. Second, by considering enhanced diffusion behavior, we also obtained optimum bonding condition in copper/silver heterogeneous plates that ensures 90%-bonding ratio at $700^{\circ}C$ for 10min with apply uniaxial press. A 7-layered copper/silver ingot is prepared successfully, and eventually the prototype mokumegane cases for mobile phone were fabricated with these ingot.

  • The purposes of this study are to review the designs of chopsticks which are the tableware we use in our daily lives, and to explore the possibilities of 3D Modeling System applications to improve their designs that will add the beauty of dining by sublating uniform and limited designs of the Korean chopsticks. To do so, this researcher was produced prototypes to be a unique cultural content through delicate expression using 3D Modeling while utilizing the Korean cultural elements as the design elements. After its production, unique design for chopsticks could be developed with the Korean characteristics. Like the case of this prototype, 3D Modeling and 3D Printing can help seek the new designs of chopsticks and improve the quality by multiple simulations. Also, it will assist to develop cultural contents that can play a role of the Korean cultural goods.

  • This paper attempted to analyze the concept of the New Silver Generation and the New Silver Generation's perception and consumption structure of jewelry products. A survey was conducted focusing on those interested in jewelry, and through this, we sought to find a direction for future marketing plans and identify the characteristics and consumption patterns of the new silver generation and the types of jewelry they prefer. Through the survey results, we sought results on jewelry marketing plans and methods for the new silver generation, and as a result, we were able to suggest a marketing direction for the new silver generation. There is a need for research on the development of design products for the future jewelry market based on our response to the future silver industry and marketing directions to generate profits in the business area.

  • 자연 현상중의 하나인 낙뢰는 대기중에서 일어나는 뇌운과 보호대상 물체간의 방전현상으로 그 발생 빈도와 피해를 예측할 수 없으며, 국내에서 선박이 낙뢰로 인한 피해가 보고된 경우는 거의 없는 실정이지만 매년 정보화 통신장비 등의 보급확대와 더불어 낙뢰에 의한 피해가 증가할 것으로 판단되며 국내 대부분의 소형선박들은 낙뢰에 취약한 비금속 재질인 FRP선 또는 목선으로 건조되어 있어 낙뢰에 의한 사고에 취약한 현실이다. 본 연구는 근래에 무선설비 항해용구 등의 선박에 초소형의 집적회로를 사용하는 전자장비의 보급이 증대됨에 따라 낙뢰가 선박에 입사하였더라도 부적절한 피뢰설비 때문에 과도전압이 발생하여 제어 감시설비 등을 파손시키는 직 간접적인 피해를 감소시키기 위해서 비금속제 소형 선박에 적합한 피뢰시스템을 제시하여 낙뢰에 의한 피해의 최소화를 위한 대책 마련을 목적으로 수행하였다. KS, ISO, NFPA 및 각 국의 피뢰설비기준에서는 비금속제 선박의 피뢰설비 규정을 제시하고 있으나 국내 규정에서는 비금속제 소형선박에 관한 피뢰설비의 설치기준이 마련되어 있지 않은 실정이므로 이번 연구결과를 통해서 비금속제 소형 선박의 피뢰설비에 대한 합리적인 피뢰설비 설치기준을 설정하는 자료로 활용할 수 있을 것이다.

A Study of material analysis and its experimentation of metamorphosis and its utilities in Copper Alloy plates for contemporary metal craft (현대금속공예용 동합금판의 재료분석과 형질변환 실험 및 응용에 관한 연구)

  • In this research, the copper alloy plates C2200, C5210, C7701, C8113 were selected to make datum and to identify further usage of metal craft experimentation. For its experimentation, the general welding and TIG welding methods were researched; for 2nd experimentation, the Reticulation and Electroforming skill's differences in color and temperature were researched. With these methods 3 different kinds of works are introduced for sample studies. For this research, Dr. Lee, Dong-Woo who works in Poongsan Metal Co, supported 4 kinds of copper alloy metals. Which are Commercial bronze (Cu-Zn), Deoxidiged Copper(Cu-Sn-P), Nickel Silver (Cu-Ni-Zn), and White Bronze (Cu-Ni); they were applied partly and wholly by the method of Laminatin, Reticulation, Fusing, and Electroforming skills. In case of C2200, the brass, the A. C. TIG welding method is better under 2mm slight plate; the D.C. TIG welding is better upper 2mm plate; and 250~300$^{\circ}C$ is recommended for remain heat treatment. In case of C5210, not having Hydrogen in high temperature return period, doesn't need Oxygen in high temperature and hardening in comparative high temperature neither, it is good for welding. It contains Sn 2-9% ad P 0.03-0.4% generally; and in accordance with the growth rate of Sn contain amount, the harden temperature boundary become broad. In case of cold moment after welding, they are recommended that higher speed TIG welding, smaller melting site and less than 200$^{\circ}C$ for pre-heating temperature. In case of C7701, the 10-20% Ni, 15-30% Zn are widely used.. If it is upper 30% Zn, it become (${\alpha}+{\beta}$) system and adhesive power rate become lower, and the productivity become lower in low temperature but the productivity become higher in high temperature. Nickel Silver's resistance of electricity is well; and the heatproof and incorrodibility is good, too. Lastly, in case of C8113, good at persistence in salty and grind; high in strength of high temperature. In case of white brass, contain 10-30% Nickel and hardened in high temperature and become single phrase. For these reason, the crystallization particles easily become large, if the resistance become higher small amount of Pb, P, S separation rate become higher.

  • This study investigated the effects of ball mill operation condition on the morphology of raw powders in the dry-type milling process using three types of ball mills traditional ball mill, stirred ball mill and planetary ball mill. Furthermore, since spherical powders offer the best combination of high hardness and high density, the optimum milling condition to produce sphere-shaped powders was studied. The applied rotation speed ranged from 200rpm (low rotation speed) to 700rpm (high rotation speed). The used ball size ranged from 1mm to 5mm. The metal powder morphology was studied using SEM, XRD and PSA. The aimed spherical powders could be obtained under the optimum experimental conditions: traditional ball mill(200rpm, 1mm ball), planetary ball mill (500rpm, 1mm ball) and also planetary ball mill (700rpm, 1 and 3 mm ball). The results show to the development of new material using spherical type copper powder/CNT composites for air-craft and automotive applications.
