  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) films were deposited on unheated PET substrates by DC reactive magnetron sputtering of In-Sn (90-10 wt%) metallic alloy target. Electrical and optical properties of as-deposited films were systematically studied by control of the deposition parameters such as working pressure, DC power, and oxygen partial pressure. The figures of merit are important factors that summarize briefly the relationship between electrical and optical properties of transparent conducting films. The formulae of T/R$\_$sh/ and T$\^$10// R$\_$sh/ are expressed as a function of transmittance and sheet resistance. The best values of those figures of merit were approximately 38.6 and 8.95 ($\times$10$\^$-3/Ω$\^$-1/), respectively.

  • It is necessary to develop an efficient optimization technique to perform optimum designs which have given design spaces, discrete design values and several design goals. As optimization techniques, direct search method and stochastic search method are widely used in designing of ship structures. The merit of the direct search method is to search the optimum points rapidly by considering the search direction, step size and convergence limit. And the merit of the stochastic search method is to obtain the global optimum points well by spreading points randomly entire the design spaces. In this paper, Pareto Strategy (PS) multi-objective function method is developed by considering the search direction based on Pareto optimal points, the step size, the convergence limit and the random number generation. The success points between just before and current Pareto optimal points are considered. PS method can also apply to the single objective function problems, and can consider the discrete design variables such as plate thickness, longitudinal space, web height and web space. The optimum design results are compared with existing Random Search (RS) multi-objective function method and Evolutionary Strategy (ES) multi-objective function method by performing the optimum designs of double bottom structure and double hull tanker which have discrete design values. Its superiority and effectiveness are shown by comparing the optimum results with those of RS method and ES method.

The merit of the direct search method is to search the optimum points rapidly by considering the search direction, step size and convergence limit. And the merit of the stochastic search method is to obtain the global optimum points by spreading point randomly entire the design spaces. The PMOFM can also apply to the single objective function problems, and can consider the discrete design variables such as discrete plate thickness and discrete stiffener spaces. • n optimization technique is adapted to determine the stage enclosure configuration preferred by performers. The merit function which quantifies the ease of ensemble among the performers is derived from a set of qualitative conditions recommended by researchers of hall acoustics. The ray path tracing technique based on the modified method of images is used to analyze acoustical characteristics at any locations of performers in stage enclosure. The gradient search technique is employed to find the geometric parameters which maximmize the merit function. As an example, optimum stage enclosure configuration of the trio chamber music is obtained using the computer program developed. The developed technique can be used in the design of concert hall stage and also in forming a special enclosure with movable reflecting surfaces.

  • The function and technological merit of electronic image editing system using time-code addressing method are investigated. The method shortens the editing time and gives high accuracy. It is possible to digitize the editing system for high resolution and to vary and to systemize the VTR editing technique by this method.

  • We designed and manufactured helical magnetic flux compression generator, in which, the current density was reduced by increasing the number of wires by stages, and the voltage between wires was reduced by decreasing the time rate of inductance change. The figure of merit and the energy multiplication ratio of the generator were measured as a function of current density flowing through coil and their characteristics were analyzed. When the current density of coil was more than 250 kA/cm, the figure of merit and the energy multiplication ratio were decreased rapidly.

  • A pyroelctric properties of Ni(x)-doped PMNT systems were analyzed. Modified PMNT samples were prepared using the columbite structure method. Pyroelectric current, polarization, dielectric constant and dissipation factor of Ni-doped PMNT samples were measured as a function of temperature. By adding a small amount of NiO, pyroelectricity of PMNT is increased. Unlike the normal $ABO_3$ ferroelectric, Ni-doped PMNT showed properties for relaxor ferroelectric of causing the successive phase transition over a wide temperature. The optimum conditions for obtaining compositions with improvement ferroelectric properties are a nominal addition of 0.02 mole% Ni. Also, Ni-doped PMNT ferroelectric showed excellent pyroelectric figures of merit in the vicinity of room temperature. The pyroelectric coefficient ($0.00524C/m^2K$ at $25^{\circ}C$) and figures of merit ($F_v{\sim}0.039m^2/C$ and $F_d{\sim}0.664{\times}10^{-4}Pa^{-1/2}$) of composition PMNT with 0.02 mole% Ni are comparable to the earlier reports on lead-type pyroelectrics.
