  • Objectives : To consider same or not the positions of acupoints on the meridian in the old acupuncture books. Methods: On the basis of old acu-books, We count the number of acupoints that are on pulse. Thru the three books-"Yijongkumkam(醫宗金鑑)","Chimkuhak 1st(鍼灸學-上)", Kyunghyulhakchongseo(經穴學叢書)"-We Compared the way of positioning of acupoints, also did on the location of acupoints, vein, vascular system, around the acupoints, based on the anatomical structures(esp. artery) Results : On the basis of old acu-books, the number of acupoints(only in the twelve meridian) on the pulse is 35, and the number of points not in the old books but on the pulse is 6, sum is 41 points. Comparion from Sambukuhu consultation method(三部九候診法) in "Somun(素問)", Some points, Taeyang(太陽, not in the twelve meridian), Yimun(耳門) and Koryo(Yimun and Koryo are in) are on pulse. Like Chonbu(天府) and Hyupbaek(俠白), We can feel the pulse on ulna side of biceps muscle, noton radial side. Shikdu(食竇) was described as on pulse in the "Chimkushimbopyokyul(鍼灸心法要訣)", but we could hardly feel it. Conclusions : It'll be right to add the Yimun(耳門) and Koryo to the points on pulse, of course two points are not in the twelve meridian. We must take the points Chonbu(天府) and Hyupbaek(俠白), on ulna side of biceps muscle. Shikdu(食竇) must be excepted, because we cannot feel the pulse in consultation.

  • Objective : The meridian and the acupuncture point of oriental medicine are very important in the department of acupuncture and moxibustion. Recently, we needed to study on the phenomenon of the meridian and acupuncture point with objective data. And then, I made a study of effects on the thermal changes of Five-shu-points(五輸穴) of the Lung meridian with acupuncture on Taeyon($L_9$, 太淵), using Digital infrared thermal imaging(D.I.T.I). Method : This study researched into clinical statistics for 60 men who are in good health. The objective was divided into two groups, one was the control group(CON, N=30) and the other was acupuncture group(ACU, N=30). The first, I took a picture for 60 men with the Digital infrared thermal imaging(D.I.T.I.). After 10 minutes, I took a second picture for each group following experimental methods. Results : I. The Mean temperature of Sasang($L_{11}$), Oje($L_{10}$), Taeyon($L_9$), Kyonggo($L_8$), Choldaek($L_5$) and Taenung($P_7$) area in adult men with good health, made a no significant difference with left and right side points. 2. Acupuncture group with acupuncture stimularion on Taeyon($L_9$) had a effect on much thermal changes of Sasang($L_{11}$), Oje($L_{10}$), Taeyon($L_9$), Kyonggo($L_8$) and Choldaek($L_5$) than control group. The thermal changes of the area which is a meridian point in the Lung Meridian of acupuncture group differed from control group with significant decrease and increase following the decreasing or increasing temperature class. Each class of ascent and descent thermal change was statistically significant value compared with control group. 3. Acupuncture group with acupuncture stimulation on Taeyon($L_9$) had not a effect on thermal changes of Taenung($P_7$) area than control group. And the increasing and decreasing temperature class of the acupuncture group did not significantly differ from control group. Conclusion : I could think that the acupuncture on Taeyon($L_9$) affected the thermal change of the area which is the Five-shu-points in the Lung Meridian. And then I could relate these results with the existence of the meridian and acupuncture point.

  • After having comparison, the Bunchon-ga in nine books -"Chimguchwiyeong(鍼灸聚英)", "Nengmunjeonsudong-injihyeol(凌門傳授銅人指穴)", "Chimgumundae(針灸問對)", "Gyeongrakgo(經絡考)", "Gyeongrakhoepyeon(經絡匯編)", "Geumchimbijeon(金針秘傳)", "Jagusimbeop-yogyeol(刺灸心法要訣)", "Chimgubongwon(鍼灸逢源)" "Chimgusinseo(鍼灸神書)", and invested the difference based on "Chimguhak(鍼灸學)", "WHO standard acupuncture point location" I got some conclusion like below. Two kinds of Bunchon-ga are similar in "Chimguchwiyeong", "Nengmunjeonsudong-injihyeol", and also in "Gyeongrakgo(經絡考)", "Gyeongrakhoepyeon(經絡匯編)", and "Geumchimbijeon(金針秘傳)" Bunchon-ga of twelve meridian is different from their order - Stomach meridian(胃經), Bladder meridian(膀胱經), Kidney meridian(腎經), Triple Energizer meridian(三焦經), and Gallbladder meridian(膽經). In nine kinds of Bunchon-ga, missing acupuncture points(漏落穴) are generally located on the first line of Bladder meridian(膀胱經) - from Daejeo(大杼) to Baekhwansu(白環兪), and Pungsi(風市), Haegye(解谿), Yangsi(羊矢), Geummaek(急脈) are not appeared in them, Hyeopdang(脇堂), Michung(眉衝), Yanghyeol(陽穴) are recorded. There are some parts adapted different way of proportional bone chon - from Yanggok(陽谿) to Gokji(曲池) in Large Intestine meridian[大腸經], from Sanggu(商丘) to Umreungcheon(陰陵泉) in Spleen meridian[脾經], and from Oegwan(外關) to Sadok(四瀆) in Triple Energizer meridian[三焦經]. The acupuncture points explained by structure, there are many different finger chons between some books. Bunchon on breast and abdomen, is generally explained by vertical, horizontal finger chon based on Governor vessel[任脈], vertical explanations of each book have little difference opinions, but horizontal have many. Especially, the locations of Eunmum(殷門), Bukeuk(浮郄) and Wiyang(委陽) are extremely different from "Chimguhak(鍼灸學)", and "WHO standard acupuncture point locations".

  • We examined and referred to some literatures on the meaning, Dai meridian and Meridian points of joining with circulation of Dai meridian through literatures of every generation. And then we came to get a few conclusions as follows. 1. Dai meridian starts below the hypochondriac region. Running obliquely downward, it runs transversely around the waist like a belt. Its function is to bind up all the meridians to circulate in a proper way. 2. The coalescent points of dai meridian are $D\grave{a}im\grave{a}i$(帶脈), $W\check{u}sh\bar{u}$(五樞) and $W\acute{e}id\grave{a}o$(維道). 3. Location of $D\grave{a}im\grave{a}i$(帶脈) is on the lateral side of the abdomen, 1.8 cun below $Zh\bar{a}ngm\grave{e}n$(章門), at the crossing point of vertical line through the free end of the 11th rib and a horizontal line through the umbilicus. Location of $W\check{u}sh\bar{u}$(五樞) is on the lateral side of the abdomen, anterior to the anterosuperior iliac spine, 3 cun below the level of the umbilicus. Location of $W\acute{e}id\grave{a}o$(維道) is on the lateral side of the abdomen, anterior and inferior to the anterosuperior iliac spine, 0.5 cun anterior and inferior to $W\check{u}sh\bar{u}$(五樞). 4. Indication of $D\grave{a}im\grave{a}i$(帶脈) is irregular menstruation, leukorrhea with reddish discharge, hernia, pain in the lumbar and hypochondriac region. Indication of $W\check{u}sh\bar{u}$(五樞) is prolapse of the uterus, leukorrhea with reddish discharge, irregular menstruation, hernia, pain in the lower abdomen, constipation and lumbosacral pain. Indication of $W\acute{e}id\grave{a}o$(維道) is edema, pain in the side of the lower abdomen, prolapse of the uterus, hernia and morbid leukorrhea. 5. The Dai meridian binds all meridians, produces pregnancy, grasps lumbar and abdomen region and controls leukorrhea. 6. Diseases of the Dai meridian manifested as distention and fullness in the lumbar region and abdomen, leukorrhea with reddish discharge, pain the navel, lumbar and spinal regions, flaccidity and hypoactivity of the lower limbs, etc.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to compare the first branch of the bladder meridian (FBBM) as determined by the proportional bone measurement method (PBMM), to the line formed by the erector spinae muscle group, and to establish an academic basis for selection of acupuncture points and needling. Methods: Sixty participants were divided into 3 groups based on body mass index (BMI) and into 2 groups based on waist/height ratios. The distance from the midline of the spine to the first branch of the bladder meridian with PBMM (DFBBM), and the distance from the midline of the spine to the most elevated fleshy region of the erector spinae (DMEFR), at the same level as the inferior border of the spinous processes of L1-L5, were measured. The DFBBM and the 5 DMEFRs were then analyzed according to BMI and the waist/height ratio. Results: DFBBM was statistically different from DMEFR in all back-shu points in the lumbar region. DFBBM was not significantly different from DMEFR in the groups with a high BMI or waist/height ratio. However, there was a statistical difference in the groups with a low or moderate BMI or low waist/height ratio. Conclusion: Since the location of the most elevated fleshy region of the erector spinae does not coincide with the location of the FBBM, the selection of back-shu points in the lumbar region must be performed precisely by PBMM.

  • Objective : Assuming that the characteristic of meridian system has been similar to this of electric potentials in human body and that measurements of electric potential at well(井穴) and sea (合穴) points in branches of the twelve meridians(WSBTM) will be representative of measurements of the twelve meridians, to measure the electric potentials of 13 patients with Lumbago due to strain and contusion(좌섬요통<挫閃腰痛>, LSC), to find out the characteristic of meridian system in patients with LSC. Methods : Electric potentials of well and sea points in the meridians in twenty one patients with the pain in the lion diagnosed as LSC were repeatedly measured by physiograph(PowerLab). Measurements of those electrical potentials were analyzed by factor analysis. Results : The electric potentials of WSBTM at the left side were divided into four factors. On the other hand those at the right side Were divided into four factors. Conclusion : In conclusion, their electrical potentials at the left and right side were factors which are different from each side. Thus electrical potentials of well and sea points might be the representative meridian to show their characteristics.

  • Although there are many reports on the bovine electroacupuncture anesthesia, its application to clinical cases needs much to be verified. In order to apply the electroacupuncture anesthesia to bovine species, a new anesthesia technique, which is safe and effective, must be developed. In the present study, 11 meridian points were selected and 11 kinds of meridian points were prescribed to develop an effective and safe electroacupucture methods in the bovine species. The results obtained are summarized as fellows : 1. When the maximun electric current (30Hz at 5.3-5.6V ) was applied, anesthesia was attained with the signs of tetany and tremor : When the electric current was continued for 15-20 minutes, the signs of tetany and tremor diminished markedly. 2. If the electric current was adjusted to 30Hz at 3.5-4.0V and continued, the tetany and tremor disappeared. The skin was slackened, thus suitable for surgical operation. The continuation of anesthesia could be regulated at operator's own will. 3. The same anesthesia effect could be attained by using any one meridian point when the points were symmetrical. 4. Transient changes of clinical signs and blood pictures were noted during the stages of acupuncture anesthesia. However, the red blood cell counts, white blood cell counts and hematocrit values were always within the normal range.
