Methyl mercaptan oxidase was isolated and purified from Thiobacillus thioparus TK-m for the detection of mercaptans. The procedure of purification involved DEAE-Sephacel and Superose 12 column chromatographies with recovery yields of 47.5 and 48.5 %, and specific activity of 374 and 1240.8 units/mg-protein, respectively. The molecular weight of purified methyl mercaptan oxidase was determined to be 66.1 kDa by SDS-PAGE. Optimum temperature for activity was observed at $55\;^{circ}C$. This enzyme was activated by $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ and NaCl and inhibited by $NH_4Cl$.
Increasing public concerns over odors and air regulations necessitates the remediation of a wide range of odor substances for industrial and indoor purpose. Currently, the wet scrubbing technique by neutralization using oils is being used to treat odor substances such as Ammonia($NH_3$), Methyl Mercaptan($CH_3SH$), Hydrogen Sulfide($H_2S$), Methylamine($CH_3NH_2$), Acetaldehyde($CH_3CHO$). The chemical analysis is performed to analyze the composition of an Arctium Lappa Root extract by VOC analyzer(Phocheck 5000Ex, ION SCIENCE co.) The objectives of the this study are to clarify the possibility of the neutralization of odors sprayed in the fixed bed and determine the removal efficiencies for different input odor concentrations. It is found that Ammonia($NH_3$), Methyl Mercaptan($CH_3SH$), Hydrogen Sulfide($H_2S$), Methylamine($CH_3NH_2$), Acetaldehyde($CH_3CHO$) are significantly removed and their removal efficiencies are higher than 98%. The kitchen detergent with Arctium Lappa Root extract showed excellent removal efficiencies of odor substances and high possibility for the development of kitchen detergent with odor removal.
It disposes positively in the air pollution damage which is serious, in order help period the place where it improves the quality of existence and life of the local residents. It removed the offensive odor regulation material and the technique it will be able to prevent to sleep it researched it did. After scattering the GNC solution which develops the offensive odor regulation material which occurs from the food and trash treatment plant which is located to the S from the H, company after scattering the GNC solution which it develops collection it did a control criminal record control kind air and it analyzed. In this study, we investigated the emission concentrations of offensive odorous compounds of hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide and dimethyl disulfide, trimethylamine, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, buthylaldehyde, iso-valeric aldehyde, n-valeric aldehyde, ammonia. The concentrations of odorous compounds are determined by gas chromatography, HPLC and uv-vis spectroscopy. Hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide and dimethyl disulfide were not detected at any point examined.
Recently, as the income level and quality of life have improved, the desire for a pleasant environment has increased, and a deodorization plan is required through thorough prevention and diffusion of odorous substances in waste treatment facilities recognized as hateful facilities, appropriate collection, and selection of the right prevention facilities. In this study, a waste disposal facility was modeled and computerized analysis for odor and ventilation analysis was conducted. Numerical analysis of the waste treatment facility was performed at the size of the actual plant. CATIA V5 R16 for numerical model generation and ANSYS FLUENT V.13 for general purpose flow analysis were used as analysis tools. The average air-age of the internal was 329 seconds, and the air-flow velocity was 0.384m/s. The odor diffusion analysis inside the underground pump room showed congestion-free air circulation through streamline distribution and air-age distribution. This satisfies the ASHRAE criteria. In addition, the results of diffusion analysis of odorous substances such as ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan and dimethyl sulfide were all expected to satisfy the regulatory standards. Particularly in the case of the waste loading area, the air-flow velocity was 0.297m/s, and the result of meeting the regulatory standards with 0.167ppm of ammonia, 0.00548ppm of hydrogen sulfide, 0.003ppm of methyl mercaptan, and 0.003ppm of dimethyl sulfide was found.
In order to attempt the quantitative correlation of nucleophilic addition(not nucleopbilic substitution) reactivity of nucleophile, the addition constants of ethyl and isopropyl mercaptan to 3,4-methylenedioxy-$\beta$-nitrostyrene were determined and found to be $6.82{\times}10^7 $ and $2.86{\times}10^7 M^{-2},\;sec^{-1}$ respectively. From the rate equation obtained, the addition mechanism at basic media especially the complex addition mechanism at acidic media which has not been revealed can also be fully explained.
To examine the relationship between occurrence of oral malodor and smoking, drinking, oral health behavior characteristics. A total of 144 adults were measuring the malodor by use of Oral Chroma volatile sulfur compounds. Data were analyzed with t-test, one-way of variance and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 12.0. hydrogen sulfide($H_2S$) was indicated to be so higher concentration in the group of carrying out scaling sometimes than the regularly group(p<0.01). methyl mercaptan($CH_3SH$) was indicated to be higher concentration in previous smoker than non-smoker and smoker(p<0.05), smoking for over 20 years was higher than the under 20 years group(p<0.05). The group of drinking over 5 times a week was indicated to have higher concentration than the under once-twice a week group(p<0.01). The group of not toothbrushing before going to sleep had higher concentration than the group of toothbrushing before going to sleep(p<0.05). The group of scaling sometimes was indicated to have higher concentration than the group of scaling regularly(p<0.05). dimethyl sulfide($(CH_3)_2S$) was indicated to be higher concentration in the group with over 2 bottles of Soju than in the group with under 1 bottles of Soju(p<0.01). The regular scaling will need to be carried out in the preventive dimension for managing oral malodor. The guidance on non-smoking and moderation in drink will need to be surely included.
The surface chemistry of WCK-AC, WCN-AC and WCZ-AC which are activated carbons prepared from waste citrus peel using KOH, NaOH, and $ZnCl_2$ as activating chemicals were investigated. Also the relationships between the adsorption capacities of the target gases such as acetone, benzene and methyl mercaptan (MM) by the prepared activated carbons and the pore characteristics of each activated carbon were examined. According to XPS analysis of the prepared activated carbons, graphite and phenolic were the main surface functional groups of C1, and the sum of phenol, carbonyl and carboxyl groups increased in the order of WCK-AC > WCN-AC > WCZ-AC. The breakthrough curves obtained from the adsorption experiments for the three target gases in the fixed bed adsorption reactor were well simulated by the empirical equations proposed by Yoon and Nelson. The adsorption capacity for acetone, benzene and MM was larger for activated carbons with the larger sum of surface functional groups. The larger the specific surface area and the pore volume of activated carbons and the smaller the pore size, the better the adsorption performance. In particular, the specific surface area was the best criterion for the adsorption performance of activated carbons used in this study.
In this study, an advanced epoxy putty which was as a multi-purpose restoration material being used to restore missing parts in the artifact preservation treatment process was developed. For the purpose of addressing the issues including the workability issue resulting from high strength, the drooping issue resulting from long hardening time during work process and the issue of contaminating the surface of artifact resulting from stained material on tools or gloves, a property comparison was conducted with existing materials to examine the properties of restoration materials in the form of epoxy putty currently being frequently used. For the purpose of addressing the issues of existing materials and allowing the developed epoxy putty to have similar properties, two types of hardeners with different properties were selected to conduct property experiments. As for the hardeners, mercaptan type hardener and aliphatic amine type hardeners in the total of two types were selected for the development. The result showed that the two types were both in the form of paste and their hardening time of 5-10 minutes were about 3-10 times shorter than that of existing materials, thereby improving the work convenience. In terms of abrasion rate to increase workability, it was improved by about 3 times to allow effective and convenient use. As for the issue of contaminating the artifact surface during the process, white micro-balloon was added as filler to address the issue to reduce the oil ingredient to develop multi-purpose restoration material with low shrinkage & high workability in coloring, light weight and cutting force.
This study aimed to develop epoxy putty as a multi-purpose connection and restoration material that can be used for material-specific restoration work such as metal, wood, ceramics, earthenware and stone artifacts by replacing synthetic resins currently being used for preservation treatment of cultural assets. Existing synthetic resins have the issue of cutting force resulting from high strength, deflection resulting from long hardening time, contaminating the surface of artifacts through staining on tools or gloves and need for re-treatment resulting from material discoloration. Accordingly, paste type restoration material most widely being used in the field of cultural assets preservation treatment was selected and examined the property to select it as an object of comparison. Based on such process, epoxy putty was developed according to the kind of agent, hardener and filler. For the purpose of solving the issues of existing material and allowing the epoxy putty developed to have similar property, property experiments were conducted by selecting agents and hardeners with different characteristics and conditions. The study findings showed that both kinds are paste type that improved work convenience and deflection issue as a result of their work time of within 5~10 minutes that are about 3~10 times shorter than that of existing material. In regards to wear rate for increasing cutting force, it improved by about 3 times, thereby allowing easy molding. For the purpose of improving the issue of surface contamination that occurs during work process, talc and micro-ballon were added as filler to reduce the issue of stickiness and staining on hand. Furthermore, a multi-purpose restoration material with low shrinkage, low discoloration and high cutting force was developed with excellent coloring, lightweight and cutting force features.
Civil appeals on odor from swine barn have been increasing. This study was conducted to compile basic data of odor from swine barns as civil appeals on odor have been increasing. Odor was monitored from two gestating sow barns and the boundary of those barns in Suwon and Hwaseong city from June to November, 2008. Mean ammonia concentration measured at the boundary of A piggery in Suwon city was 0.9 ppm with occasional breaks of permissible limit (1.0 ppm). Mean concentrations of hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan were 0.37 ppb and 0.01 ppb, which were lower than permissible limits of 20 ppb and 2 ppb, respectively. Mean ammonia concentration was 3.22 ppm and was maintained under 5.0 ppb. Ammonia concentration had increased since November when the barns were closed. Hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan were lower than the permissible limits. Mean ammonia concentration measured at the boundary of B piggery in Hwaseong city was 16.3 ppm and steep increase of concentration was monitored after October when the barn was sealed up. Hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan were 26.66 ppb and 7.45 ppb, respectively. In appropriate ventilation and raising environment would cause high ammonia concentration in swine barns. Emitted ammonia from barns and composting facilities were mixed, which would cause higher ammonia concentration on the boundary of barns. Hence improvement of raising environment, rapid manure treatment, and correct use of microbial preparation would be needed.
