  • Purpose: Despite the existence of Snoezelen method, there is no case of researching the effects on game addiction. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of Snoezelen therapy on stress, depression, anxiety and quality of life of college students who overuse computer games or mobile phone games. Methods: Eight students who responded to spend more than 30 hours of computer or mobile phone games in the selection questionnaire were recruited (The total respondents were 224 students). Students were randomly assigned to either the study group (4 students) or the control group (4 students). Stress (Korean version of Perceived Stress Scale, K-PSS), depression (Korean Screening Tool for Depression Disorders, K-DEP), Anxiety (Korean Beck Anxiety Inventory, K-BAI) and quality of life (Short Form Health Survey version 2 [SF-36]) were assessed three times (before intervention [pre], post-3 weeks [post 1], post-6 weeks [post 2]). Results: First, the study group (-4.75±3.86) and control group (1.00±2.71) showed significant difference (p<0.05) in the analysis of score changes between pre-test and test at 6 weeks (post 2) for K-DEP. Next, pre-test and test at 3 weeks of intervention (post 1) for K-BAI showed significant difference (p<0.05) in the study group (-2.50±1.91) and control group (2.25±2.99). In addition, pre-test and test at 6 weeks (post 2) showed significant difference (p<0.05) for the study group (-3.00±1.51) and control group (4.75±6.24). Conclusion: The study confirmed the possibility of Snoezelen therapy as a therapy method to induce effective responses in stress, depression, anxiety, and quality of life of college students with game addiction.

Methods : Twenty-one stroke patients who were divided into an experimental group (n=10) and a control group (n=11), participated in this study from July 2019 to October 2019. Life satisfaction changes were measured using the Life satisfaction scale. Self-esteem changes were measured using the Self-esteem scale. Results : First, comparison between pre and post intervention showed a statistically significant difference in life satisfaction and self-esteem (p<.05). Second, comparison between post intervention groups showed a statistically significant difference in life satisfaction and self-esteem (p<.05). Conclusion : Based on the results from this study, we found that time-use intervention has a positive impact on life satisfaction and self-esteem. Therefore, participating in meaningful occupation performance will improve the mental health and quality of life of stroke patients.

  • Depressive symptoms are one of the biggest mental health issues among Korean American adolescents. Previous studies have found that parental warmth and intergenerational family conflict have a major impact on depressive symptoms among Korean American adolescents. This cross-sectional study examines the mediation effects of intergenerational family conflict between perceived parental warmth and depressive symptoms among 97 Korean American adolescents aged 14 to 18 years old in the Pacific Northwest region. The results revealed that 60% of participants experienced depressive symptoms. In addition, mother-adolescent conflict significantly mediated between perceived parental warmth and depressive symptoms while father-adolescent conflict did not significantly mediate. The finding suggests the need to develop intervention programs for Korean American adolescents and their parents that focus on creating an understanding of the difference between Korean culture and American culture, identifying early signs of depressive symptoms, and decreasing intergenerational family conflict by teaching parents to express parental warmth effectively.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an aging management program on the resilience and successful aging of middle-aged women. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control and pre-post test design was used. The participants were 39 middle-aged women living in urban areas in Korea. The experimental group (n=22) received the aging management program for a total of 10 weeks, 90 minutes to 120 minutes per week. The aging management program consisted of strategies to enhance the behavior, promotion conditions, and habits of the program, including various activities for middle-aged women. The data were analyzed using χ2 tests, independent t-tests, and repeated measures analysis of variance with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The resilience score of the experimental group was significantly higher level than the score of the control group in the time-to-group interactions (F=3.70, p=0.029). The successful aging score of the experimental group was significantly higher than the score of the control group in the time-to-group interactions (F=5.86, p=0.004). However, the sub-hypotheses of resilience (self-regulation and interpersonal relationships) and successful aging (physical aging adaptation and psychological age adaptation) were partially accepted. Conclusions: The aging management program for middle-aged women was identified as an effective intervention for promoting resilience and successful aging in middle-aged women. Therefore, this suggests that the aging care program could be a useful intervention program to improve the mental health of middle-aged women living in communities.

For the intervention group received programmed education that was consisted of discharge education, telephone counselling, and home visiting for maternal education. The data were analyzed using chi-square test and t-test to test the equivalence of two groups, and the effectiveness of intervention program. This study was focused on the results of six months time point. The results were as follows: 1. There was significant difference in the mean score of mother-infant interaction(NCAST) between two groups. Intervention group showed higher scores in the subscales of sensitivity to cues, cognitive growth fostering, and caregiver total. 2. There was no significant difference in the mean score of child rearing environment (HOME) between two groups of six-month-infants. But when each subscale of HOME was examined, intervention group showed higher scores in the dimensions of opportunities for variety in daily stimulation, maternal involvement with child, and emotional, verbal response. 3. • There are increasing needs for welfare in industrial environments in modern society. Industrial health is one of the most important components of industrial welfare, and it includes maintenance and improvement of physical, mental, and social health of the workers, elimination of factors threatening workers, prevention and early intervention of industrial diseases. In this regards the importance of industrial physical therapy is increasingly recognized and the need of physical therapy in industrial field is increasing. The authors surveyed and analyzed the curricula of the departments of physical therapy to promote development of curriculum or program for educating specialized industrial physical therapists. There are 40 institutes opening the department of physical therapy, 4-year courses in 17 and 3-year courses in 23. Only 2 institutes have subjects that are directly related to industrial health. This means that specific educational program for specialized industrial physicaltherapists is not established yet though there are many needs for industrial health and physical therapy in industrial fields. But many topics or knowledge of industrial health or physical therapy are scattered in several subjects. So we suggest the needs of systematic reorganization of specific curriculum that including ergonomics and prevention and treatment of industrial diseases for education of specialized industrial physical therapist.
