  • The use of smartphone improves convenience and efficiency in modern people's lives but threatens the mental health of individuals by manifesting an addiction phenomenon that is difficult for everyday life without a smartphone. In particular, it is suggested that the effects of the smartphone addiction of firefighters who have a high level of job stress due to work environment exposed to disaster and fire have a very negative effect on their personal well-being and job performance. Therefore, the analysis of the relationship between firefighters' smartphone addiction and stress will be helpful in examining the problems of stress management. This study analyzed the relationship and influence between smartphone addiction and stress of firefighters. Total study subjects were 230 and SPSS 20.0 was used. Statistical methods are group analysis (t-test and ANOVA) and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study show that firefighters' household type and monthly income have a significant effect on stress. Of the sub-factors of smartphone addiction, withdrawal experience has a statistically significant effect on stress. The results of the study will provide empirical data on the smartphone addiction of fire service employees.

  • This study attempted to investigate cognitive load, vividness, and cybersickness in nursing students, in the last year of nursing college, who used a 360-degree video content for studying intravenous fluid infusion, one of the core fundamental nursing skills. The aim was to determine the correlation between the variables, and to decide whether the 360-degree video content can be used as an effective supplementary educational material in the regular curricula. This study, a descriptive research, was conducted from October 31, 2019 to November 14, 2019. The participants in this study were 64 students in the 4th year of nursing college at a university located in B City, South Korea. They were instructed to watch a 360-degree video content for intravenous infusion using a Samsung Head Mounted Display (HMD) while ensuring the safety of the students. The results showed that the scores, out of 7 points, for material design, self-evaluation, and physical effort for cognitive load in nursing students were 5.93±0.71, 5.92±0.71, and 5.64±0.74 points, respectively. In addition, the scores, out of 7 points, for mental effort and task difficulty were 2.55±1.08 and 1.94±0.75 points, respectively, and the scores for vividness and cybersickness in the participants were 5.82±0.84, and 2.57±0.98 points, respectively. Physical effort, self-evaluation, and material design for cognitive load in the participants were positively correlated with vividness (r=.379, r=.458, r=.507). In addition, mental effort for cognitive load was positively correlated with cybersickness (r=.684), whereas self-evaluation and material design were negatively correlated with cybersickness (r=-.388, r=-.343). Based on the results of this study, we believe that the 360-degree video content for intravenous fluid infusion can be used as an educational medium in regular and non-regular curricula. In addition, future studies are needed to specifically develop and verify teaching and learning methods on how to apply 360-degree video contents..

  • The purpose of this article is to awaken our colleagues to the culture and mind issues that have been forgotten or neglected by contemporary psychiatry under the prevalence of materialistic orientation. Cultural psychiatry too, though it has been contributed a great deal to widen the mental vision of psychiatry, has revealed several limitations in its approach. In the course of one sided search for culture specific factors in relation to mental health, conventional cultural psychiatry has neglected an effort to explore the common root underlying the different cultures and the common foundation of human mind. Cross sectional comparisons of the cultures alone have inevitably prevented the global considerations to culutre and mind in historical aspects and the dynamic interactions between mind and culture more in depth. The author suggested that the total view of mind and total approach of analytical psychology of C.G. Jung might be capable to replenish those limitations. Author explained the ways of C.G. Jung's observations and experiences of non-western culture and his concepts of culture and mind. The author demonstrated Jung's view of culture with the example of Filial Piety, Hyo, the Confucian moral norm which can be regarded as components of the collective consciousness though connected with archetypal patterns of behavior of intimacy between parent and child. In regard to the coexistence of multi-religious cultures in Korea the author made a proposal of 'culture spectrum' model for understanding value orientations of person in religious cultures. He identified in case of the Korean 4 types of cultural spectrums: Person with predominantly the Buddhist culture; with the Confucian; with the Shamanist; and with the Christian culture. The author also made an attempt to depict the dynamic interactions of different religious cultures in historical perspectives of Korea. Concepts of mind from the Eastern thoughts were reviewed in comparison with Jung's view of mind. The Dao of Lao Zi, One Mind by Wonhyo, the Korean Zen master from the 7th century, the Diagram of the Heaven's Decree by Toegye, a renowned Neo-Confucianist of Korea from the 16th century and his theory of Li-Ki, were explored and came to conclusion that they represent certainly the symbol of the Self in term of C.G. Jung. The goal of healing is 'the becoming whole person'. Becoming whole person means bringing the person as an individual to live not only within the specific culture but also to live in the world beyond the culture which is deeply rooted in the primordial foundation of human mind.

  • As the public is already aware, baby food has a significant effect on a baby's physical and mental health. It is also very important because choice of baby food forms proper eating habits, which will affect health in the future. In particular, recognition of appropriate baby food by the mother or the primary care provider is even more important. Although many studies have been conducted on this matter for domestic housewives, no studies have been conducted on married immigrant housewives whose numbers are increasing every year. A survey was conducted on the recognition and current situation of baby food preparation by mothers living in Gangwon Province with children 6 to 36-months-old. The purpose of the study was to research the level of understanding of baby food by immigrant housewives given that they were raised in different environments with different eating habits and child raising norms. And additional purpose was to provide proper educational material and direction for choosing appropriate baby food. The results showed significant differences depending on the nationality and age of the mother. Moreover, the results showed an insufficient understanding of baby food but a high desire for education, as mothers did not receive enough support from society. Therefore, necessary education should be provided systematically after mothers fully learn to communicate in Korean. These mothers need continuous attention and support, so they can settle in this country as wives, daughters-in-law, and mothers. Moreover, the needed professional education should be provided so that the mothers can learn traditional Korean eating habits and understand differences in the culture and environment between countries. As the selection of baby food forms the basis of future eating habits and the foundation for good health, proper education should be available to establish healthy intercultural families.
