Nonlinear Analysis of RC Beams under Cyclic Loading Based on Moment-Curvature Relationship (모멘트-곡률 관계에 기초한 반복하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 보의 비선형 해석)

  • A moment-curvature relationship to simulate the behavior of reinforced concrete beam under cyclic loading is introduced. Unlike previous moment-curvature models and the layered section approach, the proposed model takes into consideration the bond-slip effect by using monotonic moment-curvature relationship constructed on the basis of the bond-slip relation and corresponding equilibrium equation at each nodal point. In addition, the use of curved unloading and reloading branches inferred from the stress-strain relation of steel gives more exact numerical result. The advantages of the proposed model, comparing to layered section approach, may be on the reduction in calculation time and memory space in case of its application to large structures. The modification of the moment-curvature relation to reflect the fixed-end rotation and pinching effect is also introduced. Finally, correlation studies between analytical results and experimental studies are conducted to establish the validity of the proposed model.

Inverse Characterization Method Based on 9 Channel Tone Response Curves for Display Device (디스플레이 장치를 위한 9개 채널 계조 응답 곡선에 기반한 역 특성화 기법)

  • Display characterization, deriving the relationship between digital input values and the corresponding CIEXYZ tri-stimulus values, is important to reproduce the accurate color in color management system. The relationship can be estimated from the nine channel TRCs(tone response curves) and the result of this characterization method is better than that of using three channel TRCs. However, the inverse display characterization using nine channel TRCs cannot be directly inverted because the CIEXYZ values corresponding to each of RGB values are inseparable. Accordingly, inverse display characterization is usually implemented by the 3D-LUT (look-up table) method. Although the result of 3B-LUT is accurate, creating the 3D-LUT requires a lot of memory space and considerable amount of measurements. Therefore the inverse characterization method is proposed based on the modeling of channel-dependent values and nine channel inverse process based on the GOG(gain, offset gamma) model. The proposed method enhances the accuracy of display characterization and reduces the complexity and the number of measurements data required for accuracy in 3-D LUT.

High Bit-Rates Quantization of the First-Order Markov Process Based on a Codebook-Constrained Sample-Adaptive Product Quantizers (부호책 제한을 가지는 표본 적응 프로덕트 양자기를 이용한 1차 마르코프 과정의 고 전송률 양자화)

  • For digital data compression, the quantization is the main part of the lossy source coding. In order to improve the performance of quantization, the vector quantizer(VQ) can be employed. The encoding complexity, however, exponentially increases as the vector dimension or bit rate gets large. Much research has been conducted to alleviate such problems of VQ. Especially for high bit rates, a constrained VQ, which is called the sample-adaptive product quantizer(SAPQ), has been proposed for reducing the hugh encoding complexity of regular VQs. SAPQ has very similar structure as to the product VQ(PQ). However, the quantizer performance can be better than the PQ case. Further, the encoding complexity and the memory requirement for the codebooks are lower than the regular full-search VQ case. Among SAPQs, 1-SAPQ has a simple quantizer structure, where each product codebook is symmetric with respect to the diagonal line in the underlying vector space. It is known that 1-SAPQ shows a good performance for i.i.d. sources. In this paper, a study on designing 1-SAPQ for the first-order Markov process. For an efficient design of 1-SAPQ, an algorithm for the initial codebook is proposed, and through the numerical analysis it is shown that 1-SAPQ shows better quantizer distortion than the VQ case, of which encoding complexity is similar to that of 1-SAPQ, and shows distortions, which are close to that of the DPCM(differential pulse coded modulation) scheme with the Lloyd-Max quantizer.

A Study on Efficient Cell Queueing and Scheduling Algorithms for Multimedia Support in ATM Switches (ATM 교환기에서 멀티미디어 트래픽 지원을 위한 효율적인 셀 큐잉 및 스케줄링 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we investigated several buffer management schemes for the design of shared-memory type ATM switches, which can enhance the utilization of switch resources and can support quality-of-service (QoS) functionalities. Our results show that dynamic threshold (DT) scheme demonstrate a moderate degree of robustness close to pushout(PO) scheme, which is known to be impractical in the perspective of hardware implementation, under various traffic conditions such as traffic loads, burstyness of incoming traffic, and load non-uniformity across output ports. Next, we considered buffer management strategies to support QoS functions, which utilize parameter values obtained via connection admission control (CAC) procedures to set tile threshold values. Through simulations, we showed that the buffer management schemes adopted behave well in the sense that they can protect regulated traffic from unregulated cell traffic in allocating buffer space. In particular, it was observed that dynamic partitioning is superior in terms of QoS support than virtual partitioning.

  • In ubiquitous environment, data are changing rapidly and new data is coming as times passes. And sometimes all of the past data will be lost if there is not sufficient space in memory. Therefore, there is a need to make rules and combine it with new data not to lose all the past data or to deal with large amounts of data. In making decision trees and extracting rules, the weight of each of rules is generally determined by the total number of the class at leaf. The computational problem of finding a minimum finite state acceptor compatible with given data is NP-hard. We assume that rules extracted are not correct and may have the loss of some information. Because of this precondition. this paper presents a new approach for refining rules. It controls their weight of rules of previous knowledge or data. In solving rule refinement, this paper tries to make a variety of rules with pruning method with majority and minority properties, control weight of each of rules and observe the change of performances. In this paper, the decision tree classifier with extended data expression having static weight is used for this proposed study. Experiments show that performances conducted with a new policy of refining rules may get better.

An Optimization of Hashing Mechanism for the DHP Association Rules Mining Algorithm (DHP 연관 규칙 탐사 알고리즘을 위한 해싱 메커니즘 최적화)

  • One of the most distinguished features of the DHP association rules mining algorithm is that it counts the support of hash key combinations composed of k items at phase k-1, and uses the counted support for pruning candidate large itemsets to improve performance. At this time, it is desirable for each hash key combination to have a separate count variable, where it is impossible to allocate the variables owing to memory shortage. So, the algorithm uses a direct hashing mechanism in which several hash key combinations conflict and are counted in a same hash bucket. But the direct hashing mechanism is not efficient because the distribution of hash key combinations is unvalanced by the characteristics sourced from the mining process. This paper proposes a mapped perfect hashing function which maps the region of hash key combinations into a continuous integer space for phase 3 and maximizes the efficiency of direct hashing mechanism. The results of a performance test experimented on 42 test data sets shows that the average performance improvement of the proposed hashing mechanism is 7.3% compared to the existing method, and the highest performance improvement is 16.9%. Also, it shows that the proposed method is more efficient in case the length of transactions or large itemsets are long or the number of total items is large.

Making a Civil War Surrounding History in Cyber Space Focused on 5·18 Discourses in Ilbe Storehouse (사이버 공간에서의 역사의 내전(內戰)화 '일간베스트저장소'의 5·18 언설을 중심으로)

  • Officially given a historical signifier as Gwangju Democratic Movement since 1987, far-right and conservative group have restated that $5{\cdot}18$ is a rebellion and a riot that was committed by rebellious elements who obeyed North Korea's command or who were connected with North Korea. As those who had been responsible for the rebellion, revolt and riot were rewarded, far-right and conservatives' collective narrative that a country was born where the pro-North Korea left became dominated aroused extreme hostility towards $5{\cdot}18$. Far-right and conservatives involved in many different fields such as political party, university, press and media and civil group carry out incendiary discourse politics with intention to reestablish history and memory of $5{\cdot}18$ in their own story. Many people at online sites such as Ilbe Storehouse who are considered 'young right wing' is a main route to spread the far-right groups' remarks on $5{\cdot}18$. Ilbe is a main channel to reconstitute and reproduce the far-right conservatives' remarks and information on $5{\cdot}18$. Ilbe is one of main area where remarks of disparagement and ridicule, hostility and hatred on $5{\cdot}18$ unfurl. This study collects $5{\cdot}18$-related remarks and stories unfolded at Ilbe and examines how these remarks and stories make significance as to $5{\cdot}18$ and how information resources which remarks are dependent upon are connected each other. In this process, this study intends to find implications of incendiary politics that echoed of remarks on $5{\cdot}18$ have which at the online site Ilbe and by the far-right conservatives.

  • The context aware service is the service to provide useful information to the users by recognizing surroundings around people who receive the service via computer based on computing and communication, and by conducting self-decision. But CAS(Context Awareness System) shows the weak point of small-scale context awareness processing capacity due to restricted mobile function under the current mobile environment, memory space, and inference cost increment. In this paper, we propose a mobile cloud context system with using Google App Engine based on PaaS(Platform as a Service) in order to get context service in various mobile devices without any subordination to any specific platform. Inference design method of the proposed system makes use of knowledge-based framework with semantic inference that is presented by SWRL rule and OWL ontology and Jess with rule-based inference engine. As well as, it is intended to shorten the context service reasoning time with mapping the regular reasoning of SWRL to Jess reasoning engine by connecting the values such as Class, Property and Individual which are regular information in the form of SWRL to Jess reasoning engine via JessTab plug-in in order to overcome the demerit of queries reasoning method of SparQL in semantic search which is a previous reasoning method.

A Study on the Aesthetic Characteristics of the Digital Rotoscoping Images in Jonas Odell's Animations (요나스 오델(Jonas Odell)의 작품 세계에 나타난 디지털 로토스코핑 이미지의 특성)

  • Although Rotoscoping technique has been used for a long time to mimic the natural and smooth motion since the early 20th century, its artistic value was devalued as tricks because it traces the already recorded images. But the fact that the rotoscoping images can cross the boundaries between animation and live action in an infinite integral freedom in the digital era became rather expansive new aesthetic possibilities of representation of the reality. In addition, Jonas Odell's animations such as (2010), (2008), (2006) are good example to prove that the rotoscoping images also can serve as means to enhance its narrative. This study is to analyze how rotoscoping images act as a unique role in relation with the narrative based on the said person's real stories and realistic images. I argue that his animated films constantly contain these three characteristics -Images to mediate Auditory sensitivity as a record of inner metaphysical reality, anonymous images to represent a specific existential character, and images that act as physical representation that holds the physical space/time and related memory. This reveals that rotoscoping images in this digital era went beyond reproduction for natural movements or special type of style. It rather suggests new layers of experience, and acquires new value in animation. I hope that this study could serve as a foundation to rediscover and re-position the value of rotoscoping images as well as good opportunity to introduce very talented swedish animation artist who already received global attention with his unique philosophical and aesthetic style.

An Efficient WLAN Device Power Control Technique for Streaming Multimedia Contents over Mobile IP Storage (모바일 IP 스토리지 상에서 멀티미디어 컨텐츠 실행을 위한 효율적인 무선랜 장치 전력제어 기법)

  • Mobile IP storage has been proposed to overcome storage limitation in the flash memory and hard disks. It provides almost capacity-free space for mobile devices over wireless IP networks. However, battery lifetime of the mobile devices is reduced rapidly because of power consumption with continuous use of a WLAN device when multimedia contents are being streamed through the mobile IP storage. This paper proposes an energy-efficient WLAN device power control technique for streaming multimedia contents with the mobile IP storage. The proposed technique consists of a prefetch buffer input/output module, a WLAN device power control module, and a reconfigurable prefetch buffer module. Besides, it adaptively determines the size of the prefetch buffer according to a quality of the multimedia contents, and it dynamically controls the power mode of the WLAN device on the basis of power on-off operations while streaming the multimedia contents. We evaluate the performance of the proposed technique on a PXA270-based mobile device that employs the embedded linux 2.6.11, Intel iSCSI reference codes, and a WLAN device. Extensive experiments reveal that the proposed technique can save the energy consumption of the WLAN device up to 8.5 times with QVGA multimedia contents, as compared with no power control.
